My daughter just left for us navy 7.30.2013 I love you brittany and saw your message on here...I'm proud of you and proud for all our military services... thank you for serving and protecting our country... I'm proud to be a sailor's mom, aunt, cousin and friend... Keep up the positive good work! I wished my parents let me go when I was young... @Brittany you make our ohana proud and much alofa on your way.... see you in 2 months my little one...we love you and praying for all your endeavors..
Hello Shipmate! I too was a Hospital Corpsman, an FMF Corpsman and , Surgical tech, I served on board 2 vessels. I got to travel the world all in all it was an Amazing learning experience. I joined the U.S. Navy Dec 1977 and honorably retired March 1998.
My dad was a navy corpsman in Korea, chosin reservoir to be exact. He is the reason I joined the Marines .. boy, the stories of he told! He also told me about how the marines treated him as their own and vice versa. There was a metric ton of support for their corpsman and I saw the same exact thing when I was in the marines. Marines don't give out accolades often, but you guys definitely deserve them. When I see this woman speaking about her experience, I am glad we have her
retired Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman 24 years. Spent almost all of that attached to Fleet Marines usually Force Recon. Wouldn't trade a day of those years.
I did get a decent asvab score. But when I was in the Office with the Navy Liaison, we went over what I wanted to do with my life, and what career fields I was interested in. (Engineering, Law Enforcement, Medical) I told him my first option would be Medical. And he said "okay here's what I have open for you". And he offered me Navy Corpsman, and I was like "Yes, Perfect". and we went from there. It does fall back on your score, but it also depends on which field or section you did the best on, on the ASVAB test.
+Marquis Hill okay thank you! I want to be a nurse eventually so I will have to tell my recruiter, I haven't got my asvab scores back but I feel pretty good about them
+Jackson Gasho hm doesn't require a really high asvab, just so you guys know. hm has a low promotion rate and alot of people get high tenured out. but if you plan on using it as a stepping stone i believe you get credits that count towards knocking out subjects that could get you an associates in applied science that could lead to an bsn eventually.
I EAS 28JUN2023. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a corpsman. I love all the Marines I get/got to work with 1/8 & 2D LAR. I also loved all of the Nurses/Corpsman/Soldiers/Airmen I worked with at Fort Belvoir in Pediatrics clinic/Acute care clinic/Emergency room.
It was a great job, and you will get to meet a lot of good people. But, it's still the military, and there are more than enough mediocre assholes in every rating to ruin your experience in the military if you let them get to you. Stay focused and don't let the pinheads get you down.
I worked side by side with Navy Respiratory Therapists for 3 years at NMCSD (Balboa) and these guys are simply the best!! I'm an old Marine and I'd trust these guys with my life. Smart, motivated and top of the line they are...and they are all trained FIRST as basic Navy Corpsmen. FYI, there are more Medal of Honor recipients amongst the ranks of Army Medics and Navy Corpsmen. These are heroes. Semper Fi, Navy!!! OOO RAH!!!
I'm an enlisting in the Navy as a hospital corpsman and was wondering if any of you guys specialized in xray training they offer. How hard was it to get in to that c school?
America's Navy please do a in depth video on FMF im enlisting in the next few months and would love some more info on the pipeline to becoming a fleet corpsman thanks
+Brian Gahn not necessarily, they give you what they have at meps, but i think it depends on the recruiter and detailer if they can hook you up and give you what you want but you may end up leaving later than sooner for basic training. emt certified will give you the option i think to breeze past A school, like you can challenge their tests and if you pass you can graduate faster and go to your next school, ship or duty station. A lot of hms do end up in hospitals or clinic for their 1st duty station though.
@CaptainGaruda i'm in corpsman A school right now and i just graduated high school last year. you dont need any previous medical or college experience. they teach you alot in A school and theres always a possibility to get a C school. hope that answered your question
I am curious about this position. I graduated from College with an Associate’s degree in Medical Assisting. I have a mood disorder but it is mild. Would the Navy Reserve reject me for having a mood disorder? In boot camp, do they yell at you?
What is the process like for being able to work with Marines? Are there physical tests, exams, anything like that? Is it competitive to get a spot with the Marines as a corpsman?
she might not be an FMF corpsman, but i wouldnt be surprised if she was atleast an 8404 (fmf capable) corpsman ontop of being a DMT. and for you guys getting ready to go to boot, when you get to A school, study. top grades get first choice in orders. and remember, 29 palms does not have any palm trees.
To be a corpsman, does one must actually graduates from college taking medical major degree? Or he/she can enlist and will learn all the essentials when in the Job School( A School) and FMSS at the Navy?
PRETTY SAD ALOT OF FELLOW ACTIVE DUTY MEMBERS ARE HATING ON THIS VIDEO. IM PRETTY SURE AS A 2ND CLASS SHE HAS PROVED HERSELF AND DESERVES RESPECT. MOST ACTIVE DUTY WHO I SERVE WITH GIVE GREAT RESPECT TO DIVE MED TECHS. ITS PRETTY INTENSE,DIDNT KNOW THE HOSPITAL CORPS WAS FULL OF ALL THESE HATERS..IN MY COMMAND WERE ALL WOVEN PRETTY TITE AND GIVE AND EARN RESPECT...MAYBE ALL WHO R DISCRIMINATING SHOULD WORK ON BEING BETTER SHIPMATES,INSTEAD OF HATING STRIVE TO BE MORE LIKE HM2 HERE. A FELLOW HM
@TheDocmonte....Yes they do some special warfare community members go to the army jump school, they earn it there. I have seen and spoken with Marine Recon Corpsmen, that is one of the many ways to get it
2-3 months, there are factor like how fast you class up. Sometimes there are so many students that some wait until they can start school, but say if you go with the marines theres more schooling after regular corps school, same for any specialty like dental tech x ray teach and so on. Be more specific on what you wanna do, and what kinda corpsman you wanna be.
I want to finish up my RN degree so that I am licensed before joining so I can get more experience . Im currently a cna and enjoy it. But will the G.I bill still count to further my education to become a Nurse Practitioner or MD?
Talk to a recruiter because i think the G.I bill only pays for your school AFTER you enlist and do the navy then go back to to your schooling. There are other programs you can do tho
FCPiN0y94 Yes it will, speak with a Navy Career Counselor once you are in, the Navy needs Nurses. There are special rules for them. Doc Richardson SF IDC
@hiphoptoto How do you know she doesn't skydive. It is not mentioned in the video. I sky dived in the Navy. I was a Navy Test Parachutist. We skydived all the time.
i am a future HM .... so what you are saying people in A school that score high get first choices in c school? and do they let you no whats available? and also is it true all males automatically go to fleet service i ve heard so many things....please reply thanks bro
Well said. People make comment from the safety of the internet because they see a video of someone doing something with their lives and it brings them pain. The anger they spew at others is almost always misplaced self loathing for not making something of their own lives. HM3 FMF - Retired
I tried to go in and do this in navy and the recruiter basically gave me no hope and to just become an engineer she told me to come back to them when I think of a job that is realistic. Even those saving lives is the most realistic thing I could think of. Wish I had heard this instead of the complete opposite
I'm in 2nd year of college and I've always wanted to work in a hospital and do something to help people. It's sad to say that I don't think my current major of electrical engineering is the right path for me towards this path. What better way to help people by working in the field directly with men and women fighting for our country! I know I want to do this for sure. I just need to know if it's possible in the situation I'm in. What can I do? Do I need any qualifications?
Wings It depends on if the job of HM is available and if you get at least in the 60's range on your ASVAB. I got HM when i went to MEPS two months ago and I m proud, I got a 72 ASVAB score WITHOUT studying and it was available. The ASVAB is not difficult though.
Tyler Foster You can wait till an opening I forget what you have to put in I think its called a DAR but you have to redo MEPS all over again that's why most people just pick another job. Good Luck.
Thank you, I've been reading post about the recruiter just cutting the person off for not picking the jobs they had available at the time, and that no recruiter in the state would pick them up because of it
I got to agree with you.Hell I had my ass saved back in 2008 by a Naval Corspman that got attached to my unit. After that I found a new appreciation for the Navy. These pricks on here have no idea what they are talking about..Guess ignorance is bliss. My hats off to the Navy. 75th Ranger Regiment Alpha Co.RLTW! I am certain. The last class in Great Lakes will graduate July 11, 2011. So you will be going to METC in Fort Sam. Google it and read about it. Good luck future shipmate.
I'm leaving 20111115 and after basic going to a-school to be a HM. I'm so excited :) plus I heard HM a-school is now at METC at Fort Sam, TX (closing Great Lakes a-school).
I've gotta be the only male Corpsman to not have the honor of going with the Marines. I've wanted that ever since I left for Corps School but I had my orders jacked and sent to a shore command. I'd kill to get that opportunity.
Dang it, I hate being a corpsman! They didn't teach us anything in corps school! One more year to go and then I'll finally be able to put in for a better rate!
Sure wish that I could be a Sailor AND a Corpsman on a shore tour simultaneously. Being Male it's like you get one and that's it and it's with the Marines...No offense, I love Marines.
Congratulations Tristan, Hospital Corpsman Vet with 20 years in. I'll say keep an open mind, you'll get a lot, and I mean a lot of schooling. is she a marine or a sailor?
What is the asvab score to get this rate?
That's a false AFQT score it's at least a 36. 50 is for air force.
With pride, call her DOC.
I tried to go in and do this in navy and the recruiter basically gave me no hope and to just become an engineer she told me to come back to them when I think of a job that is realistic. Even those saving lives is the most realistic thing I could think of. Wish I had heard this instead of the complete opposite
Kevin Perez did you choose already?
O'Brian Tomlinson yeah I went to airforce
Kevin Perez Dude, never listen to what the recruiter says. They have quotas to fill, keep pushing for your rate.
Im in A School For Navy Corpsman it wasnt hard to get it all you just have to do good on your ASVAB and pick a job and wait until spots are open
Anybody going to Bootcamp July 09 for Hospital Corpsman?
I am
@G483F33LY What do you hate about it??
I'm in 2nd year of college and I've always wanted to work in a hospital and do something to help people. I'll be shipped in June also if i decide to enlist, talked to a recruiter today.
how Hard is it to get a hospital Corpsman??
Because it's overmanned

@fciprian my bf is a corpsman at Lejeune. He is not a wanna be marine. He is in the Navy, not the marines & he is my hero.

What were you expecting?
I'm gonna be a Hospital Corpsman and my ship date is March 5th
Got the job i wanted! Signed January 4th, 2016.. Shipping out August 24th, 2016; anyone else shipping out with me?
Angeliee S what job was that?
Hospital Corpsman :)
Can girls be in the field for FMF? 👀
yes :)
Angeliee S omg yay cause I did research and it says we couldn't and I kinda got sad but now I'm happy
I'm NREMT certified, anyone know if that can that help me snag an HM contract?
Not necessarily. You would still have to re-do any training to ensure that you meet Navy standards and are up to date on the training the Navy wants you to have. You can always talk to a Recruiter about wanting to become an HM!
I'd be more than willing to redo the training! My buddy's going in as an MA and his recruiter said they don't want to deal with anyone that's "job locked"
You can actually skip a huge portion of HM A school if you test out of EMT
Zondares The problem is getting to A school haha, everyone wants to be an HM and recruiters have said the training won't help me get an HM contract. Oh well
***** Yeah I heard that they are closing down the rate.
sailor..corpsman are navy but can deploy with the marines
From what I read they then have to go to Camp Pendleton to train with marines
HM3 1964-1968.
