Just build the whole drop chute into a big XP bottle filled with Green and lime Green glass. That way you can hide the portal and it still fits the "xp Factory theme" :)
May I recommend carpets for smelting? Simple carpet duper is extreamly easy to make, and carpets are slightly more efficent when it comes to smelting than bamboo :)

The reason for the "no sound" issue is, when there are many different things loading sounds the sound cap is reached. And with so many gaurdians, their sounds overpowers everything then takes the other sounds away. Atleast you know the farm is working!
You should put some sort of light block in the orb, so it looks like they’re glowing at night. Like frog lights, glowstone, or the ocean light blocks thing.

you should remove the xp bubbles, encase the portal with a trident coming out from the top of the building, and then add the xp bubbles around the trident again

For the feul of the supersmelter, i recommend making a blaze farm. The rods are just super useful!

Use instant damage potions to kill the guardians it will be more efficient ❤and there thorns won't hurt u too ❤🤗
