Yes it would have been a lot easier. I was nervous about working on top of the plastic and tearing holes in it. If I had to do it over again I would do the side wall plastic before the joists and then roll the floor plastic out after the floor framing was complete.
Not sure what additional that would have cost. The beauty of doing your own build is you get to pick and choose where exactly you want to spend your money. Unfortunately, in the end our budget dictates many decisions. We have a few no compromise items so in order to make those happen we have to sacrifice in other areas. You bring up an excellent point to consider though.
Depending on exact labor costs and concrete pricing that would equal to somewhere around 11.5 extra yards of concrete. Plus extra form material, plus extra labor (since he sub'd the foundation) Concrete alone would be ~1600 extra at 150/yd and probably another couple thousand in labor and material. Plus labor in dirt work. I'd suspect another 7-9k in cost for it.
Looking good. I'm jealous you are getting stuff done and I still haven't really started mine yet. lol
Thanks! Sometimes I wonder if I am ever going to get this project finished. 😂
this is a great video on crawlspace encapsulation!
Thanks for watching!
Looks great. In hindsight, would it have been easier to install the vapor barrier before installing the floor system? Keep up the good work.

The front of my house is 19” and the back of the house is 24”… maybe I’ll just hire someone lol
@@ajrmk7gli266 interesting. Your house is trapezoidal. That is as long as the front and back are parallel 😂.
Why didn't you just build a 4 or 5 foot crawl space and save a heap of stress.. Would it have cost you more than a few grand?
