I bought a 97 A8 and all of the headrests are inoperable. This video is great even I can follow it, that and the repair only costs you some time and you don't even get dirty .
    Thank you !

I think i just removed the metallic top and then cut "around" the wire and just reinstalled the top part. Still works today, five years later! I should just get around to doing the passenger side too... ;)

Bought my A8 3 years ago & the headrests never worked. Just did the fix in the video & now they work perfectly!!!!!!!!! Any chance of the rear ones being fixed the same way?

Thank you so much sir! I've just finished fixing both head rests with this method and now they work like a charm. It took around 30 minutes each.

Many thanks and all the best to you! I did what you suggested on our 1995 "Baccara" and it works few years now. Cheers from Sanok, Poland!

Worked for me! The back 8mm screw is a pain to get in and out though. I did both front seats on my 2002.

Another way is to trim a few millimeters off the metal end. It shortens the housing that seats into the motor thus letting the square cable end insert better. Same thing happens on BMWs and Mercedes.

Hello. I did as the video shows but it when I got into the seats I found that both seats had this repair done but neither one worked. I was able to find a short length of rubber hose and used it to replace the heatshrink. It took a bit of effort to get the plastic tube seated in the hose but it does work and I doubt it will fail again.
So, use rubber hose that is a snug fit instead of the heatshrink and zipties.

Brilliant. Marine heat shrink tubing has hot glue inside of it, even better.

@@odinrossi3353 Now if only I could fix my radio ... Seemed to short out when my battery went dead. If I could do that I would have a 1999 A8 sedan in mint condition.. seats in front are perfect not even wrinkles. Car has 96K miles on it.
