  • Lately my ID.4 keeps loosing the wireless CarPlay connection to my iPhone. I find that if I connect wireless CarPlay using the Apple recommended method (long pressing the "voice" button) it works better. This video shows how and also include some explanation on what is going on behind the scenes.

    Thanks to your wonderful precise instructions I have finally got CarPlay to work. Neither the technician nor the salesman at our vw dealer had any idea how to get it to work, and the car had been booked in for a diagnostic. Can’t thank you enough.

    Thank you for taking the time to make these hints and tips on the ID4. I am hiring one tomorrow for a couple of days for a longer trip than my 2013 Leaf can comfortably handle, so it was good to go through your useful and clear videos to give myself a headstart. It will be too late for me, but you might consider doing a 'how to connect' for Android Auto as well (eg here in the UK the Android:Apple split is about 60:40 I believe) - I guess it is the same/similar, I will find out tomorrow 🙂

    Thanks for the video, what is your phone holder and do you like it? Have you done a review of it?

    Will the screen in the car setup a Wi-Fi connection or your fhone?

    Thanks for this. One point to note though - the car needs to be in Park for this to work. You can’t do this if the car is in Drive (even with Auto Hold on and the car stopped).

    I have issues with Waze using the WiFi connection, I did set it up initially how you explained. I then plugged it in & it worked. I have now had the car only a month. I occasionally travel on the motorway to see my daughter, I feel I’m most comfortable with waze. Any suggestions will be helpful.

      My experience seems to be sometime I plug in the charger for a short time to get the phone connected to the car when it’s not happening. Sometimes the car is waiting for the iPhone to be owned to permit CarPlay to get started.

    Also big challenge for us. How do you switch between phones if multiple in car were set up for wireless CarPlay? I end I ask my passengers to turn off their WiFi for a minute so my own phone can connect. Should be other option

    Do you experience your phone getting hot and even overheating when charged wirelessly? I have an iPhone 12 and it heats up very fast when using the ID4 wireless charging pad. I tried it with or without case and no difference. The phone heats up very fast. Do you have any experience with this issue?

      yes. I have an XS with the Apple leather case. It is not a good charger but works enough. I also leave a cable in the car to plug in to charge when needed.

    So a question about the id4. Can you have the a/c going while the car is locked? As in out at the store etc. Thanks

    • @EVTipsAndTricks
      @EVTipsAndTricks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. There are two ways to do it. You can remotely start in via carnet which is slow and not always work. Easier way is / when you stop the car there is an option right on the infotainment screen to leave the AC on but just for 30 mins max

    Is this initial setup or every time?

    • @EVTipsAndTricks
      @EVTipsAndTricks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just initial setup. Once connected, I find that the ID.4 will just connect and usually start playing the last song I played when I am in the car. There is a small delay, but it's a bit like magic since my iPhone is still in my pocket.

    I have set up the wireless connection but everytime I enter the car, the radio starts (which I want) but when the Carplay connections kicks in, I lose the radio. Even if I don't enter carplay or something like that. Anyone having the same issue?

    • @EVTipsAndTricks
      @EVTipsAndTricks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I was playing something with my iPhone via carplay when I exit the ID.4. When I re-enter it will resume. If I hit stop before I exit. It won't restart. But I like the auto restart feature so I rarely bother with it.

    I wish CarPlay would also work connected via usb. Sound is better. But as far as I can tell I need to do CarPlay wirelessly in order to use the apps on car screen and the sound quality is lower via WiFi.

    • @EVTipsAndTricks
      @EVTipsAndTricks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works perfectly with USB. Maybe it’s your cable?

      I don't know if you're using one of the back seat USB outlets but those two are for charging only, and the front two are supposed to be used for data/charging. I hope you figure it out, because I can't figure out how to get Wireless CarPlay without paying for Verizon's hotspot!
