Absolutely. 1) We care about the way our equipment looks, and we don't do well with dirty things. 2) It can be incredibly dangerous to have things (especially steel shavings), flying off the trailer. We want to do our job and live our lives without having to live with having killed / injured someone out of laziness.
Yup, they'd be the ones to do it too, just like I learned to chip paint on a destroyer in Vietnam. Thank goodness my rank went above that fairly fast by Navy standards. You know I was just kidding with you as sweeping goes along with all the stress of owning a business and getting to the customers with no accidents or mistakes and keeping the rig in good working order.

Thanks! Ireland is at the very top of my travel list. Always wanted to see the land my roots came from. To answer your question, no, none of them steer. It's not all that common in the US to have steer axles on the trailer; at least a straight trailer like this. I lived in Italy for 2 years, and can tell you that it is pretty rare to end up on roads as narrow in the states as they are in Europe.
I'm curious if you have considered super singles/ wide base tires for your rig, and if so, why you have elected not to go that direction? Seems like it could offer significant weight savings with your extra axles.
Super Singles are heavy as hell. They only exist because the Communist Republic of California decided to make another dumb anti-trucking law. As for a more practical explanation...1) If I blow a tire currently, I still have another tire there to support weight and allow me to limp the truck to a safe area. Not the case when a SS goes. 2) Some states will not grant you the same amount of weight on a SS as they will your standard tandem. 3) They are TERRIBLE in wet / snowy conditions.
We initially wanted to run them down the main beam, but the walls of the ring were not thick enough to land that well on the 8' timbers we had. So, we had to set them the way we did. Wasn't ideal, but the timbers still caught the main beams of the trailer which is what was important.
