Carol, thank you for another really lovely podcast. It was time well spent. I too love my name. When I was a kiddo, my mom took us to the dentist, whom I had a childish crush on even though he was "old." His name A.Q. O'brien. He had the most startling blue eyes, and a treasure chest for after our visit. Well he would always tell me that his daughter and I shared the same name, and did I know our name meant 'honeybee.' Luckily for him, and me, I had soft enamel, and had plenty of cavities for him to fill. I miss my AQ O'brien. He shared his treasure chest, and made me love my name, even though I had to share it with his daughter! Haha...the twilight of our years brings back so many cherished memories....

There were times in my life that I didn't like my name, but I do like it now. Although my name is Sandra (which I really like), I go by Sandi; but my family calls me Sam (a nickname my Dad gave me). I do like my name now. But did not as a child. The main reason is everyone besides myself that I knew had my name was about 70 years old. I had to laugh when you said that Esther had become an obnoxious overstayer. My second daughter is a beautiful stitcher. I was blessed to teach her many years ago. She was a recent visitor and actually rekindled my stitching love. Thank you for your flosstube, I really enjoy it.

Another fascinating video. All those samplers stitched and soon to be stitched. Amazing collection & all lovely. I, too, love the history of samplers, being a history buff. Too think that very young girls (mostly,) stitched them & have lasted all this time is incredible. Nothing makes me sadder than to see lovingly stitched pieces at yard sales or thrift stores, like unwanted items. Thanks goodness so many stitchers rescue them.
I've always disliked my name, Joan. It's too abrupt, not only that I don't feel like a Joan. I so wanted to be called by my middle name, Christine, named after my favorite aunt. My grandmother's name was Laura Susan, I loved it and thought it was very modern given that she was born in 1890. I'd much rather have had my Irish name, Siobhan, pronounced She-von.

Actually I made that many over the years. But yeah I’ll have to see if there’s any left in a box in the garage. I made so many I didn’t even decorate with them. They looked like Lizzie High dolls with themes. Sewers, gardeners, angels, teachers etc and that was before you could order stuff on the internet so I was always on the hunt to find stuff for their hats, hair , baskets etc. talk soon. BFF 🤪

Wow, just wow....love your samplers! What a video full of "stitcher eye candy." Thank you, Susan Carol for sharing! I love my name. Well....I love my first name; my second name, not so much! I was named after my mom and dad, Willis and Faye. So I am Willa Faye. Being from the south, of course, we were called by both names and when kids said it fast it sounded like Wolfaye! I hated it. But it was perfect for my mom. I didn't want to hurt her feelings so I waited until the 7th grade to declare I was, from that moment on..... just Willa. She adjusted over time.
I'm also passing on the stitching legacy to granddaughters. I have 11 y.o. identical twins and they really love stitching. My youngest is 5 and she has just started stitching. So hard for her to stay focused, but I'm determined. Your little stitcher was adorable! XO, Willa

Shakespeare said it best: What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet. I think this is from Romeo and Juliet and their names spelled trouble for them. Rebekah, Hannah, and Elizabeth are all Grandmothers and Biblical names and I love stitching them in my samplers. Thank you for sharing your samplers and soon to be samplers--good motivation for me to get stitching.

Hi Carol! Your videos are so incredibly interesting. I love seeing your samplers. I do like my name. Jo Ann Marie. My mother named me after her good friend from her college days. I was once though mistaken as a boy when I was in the hospital at 17 because the nurse on duty at 2am did not think Jo was a girl name and she hadn't met me yet/nor did she read the chart. Was funny to be woken up and told I needed to move rooms till I "confessed" I indeed was a girl 😉😁😁. Happy stitching 😎

I love seeing your samplers...you have so many beautiful pieces and every time I see one, I think, I want to stitch that! As an adult, I like my name. As a child I didn't care for it so much. It's different and kids tease and there were the school years I got assigned a locker in the boys locker room. My Mom always said that boy or girl, she planned to name the baby Frankie, so that was that! Have a wonderful time stitching on all of your projects and teaching that darling grandchild to stitch!

Hi Carol! Love your samplers so beautiful! I absolutely hated my name as a kid...Patricia. But now that I'm in my 50's, I actually am starting to like it more. I look forward to many more of your videos.

Just amazing! I have enjoyed each of your videos. Very inspiring. Your stitching is lovely. My first name is Priscilla. My middle name is Ruth. When I was young, it was interesting - as most people read or hear my name and would make it Patricia. I got that a lot. I liked my name and it isn't very common. I received my name from my grandmother on my mother's side of the family. She read her bible daily and picked out Priscilla from the Book of Acts and Ruth from the book of Ruth. Thank you for sharing your time, knowledge and stitching.

Love your videos Susan....uh, I mean Carol !! 😂😂😂 I could probably match you one to one of my pieces stitched, my collection and my fully kitted pieces, usually with silk, that I need to start. You are truly an inspiration. I do have Isabella Fox stitched and framed. She was an absolute joy. Thanks for taking the time to share your amazing work. ❤️😊

You are a wonderful stitcher! I enjoyed seeing your Noah's Ark quilt and loved your talk discussion about names and peoples legacy. My dad was genealogy buff, it reminded me of him. As for my name, I love my name! Both my first and maiden last name are Scottish and have a lengthy as well as fascinating history. Both are locations in Scotland, are Clan names with their own tartans, crests and mottos. Lindsay's motto is "endure with strength". After the last five years, I think my family named me well and now I absolutely love my name, now more then ever!

Hi Carol, love your videos and it is such a treat that you are in front of your beautiful needlework. I haven't always loved my name. I can go from Catherine to Cathie and now Cathy. My middle name is Marie and it was my Mothers middle name also. Can't wait till your next video next month.

Another wonderful video. I love vintage samplers. They reflect a past where God was the center of life. I think in this world today we long for that. At least we stitchers get to experience a little of how these girls/women felt as we stitch these works of art. I like my name. My maiden last name was Smith so Myra wasn't that common. My sister's name was Moyne .... even more uncommon. However, Elizabeth would have been perfect. :~)

I wasn't thrilled as a child with my name, but now I like it. My Mom said my Dad named me Leslie since it rhymed with his name, Wesley. Thank you for another great video - I love seeing all of your samplers, those finished and being worked on!

Hi Carol! Enjoyed seeing your samplers-just beautiful! My name is Pamela Marcelle, but I go by Pam. At times I liked my name, but whenever I got in trouble, my mother would always call me by my whole name, so I didn't like it so much then. Ha!Ha! I love your sense of humor-you are hilarious! I taught both of my daughters how to cross stitch and sew, and also my granddaughter, who is 12, has her own sewing machine. She sews and cross stitches. So, I guess that is my legacy.. My mother taught me and I am passing that love of sewing on down the line. Happy stitching! Pam from Alabama

Love your video’s and what you share! When I was young I didn’t like my name, because of it I was sent an induction notice for the army and when I went away for school they had put me in the boys dorm (that was before co-ed dorms). When I had surgery one time they had me in a room with men and had to scramble around to find a room with women. Now days I like my name because it is different then most!

Saltbox Stitcher No, I don’t think they wanted a boy. They went on to have 3 more girls, they felt they had to keep to the same type names, Terrie, Jackie and Kellie. Names that could go either way, boys or girls.

Carol, I enjoy your videos SO much! I saved it to watch tonight so I could have plenty of time to pay attention and savor your stitching stories in peace. Your comment about being nice to a pink elephant if one walked by your house had me laughing on the floor. You are hilarious and just a joy. It's fitting that your name means a song of joy, even if you didn't like your name when you were little, heheh! You know what's funny? My name actually IS Susan (although friends and family call me Susie), but I wanted my name to be Karen when I was little. Where I got Karen, I'll never know; we didn't know anyone named that. Kids can be so crazy. I do like my name just fine now. See you next time! Have a great rest of the summer! ~Susie (or Susan!) :D

I love watching your videos. You are so engaging and interesting. My name I would learn in my teen years came from my fathers two children from his first marriage that he never got to see. Totally weird. But I love my name. I have a great passion for future generations to learn cross stitch specifically. I have had others complain when I post about it that I am trying to advertise so I won’t put it here. I provide supplies to youngsters and new stitchers two they can learn. As you would say - love it love it love it!

Carol, I love your videos. I think I subscribed on your first one and I don't do that very often. My mom's name is Carol too:) I used to hate my name Tamela like Pamela but go by Tammy. When I got older I asked why I was named Tammy because I thought it was so plain and my mom said she named me after the Tammy movies. Well I love them! Now I wear my name proudly! I love your Jane Tyndall Sampler! Stunning!! I've looked at it for some time now I'm hooked! I'm also working on Isabella Fox. I have most of the tree done and a few other things. Love it!I love Samplers more than anything I stitch😊 It's so enjoyable to see your stitching and you got me to purchase Peace, Love, & Plenty/Plum Street Samplers too. It's so beautiful! Thanks!

Carol, your video is so refreshing. When you stitch a good phrase it does build your character! I find that I cannot stitch a phrase that is empty or false. So you have to change it or not stitch it. I like my name.

First, I want to be you when I grow up!! I have loved everyone of your pieces and am so excited when I see you have a new flosstube. I watch from work and keep a pad close so I can be enabled by you to buy more stash. I have also loved samplers and can remember when I first discovered the "Words of Praise" kits. I have done 3 of them. I have come to terms with my name, but have never liked it. Too many "Plain Jane" comments, but my Mom said my Dad named me so I am happy about that.
