People complain about Mihaly in AC7 surviving your missiles being BS but here we have actual BS with Markhov just somehow surviving literally everything until he was scripted to die.

yeah lmao, at least lorewise mihaly flew in a way that somehow let him take damages in the least critical areas just like we do so in the last battle the amount of missiles he has to take before going down is about the same as us (except for EML shots).

Okay to be fair if there's anything positive to say about A.H, Seeing the aircraft actually have persistent damage and get properly torn to shreds by your gunfire is such a satisfying thing to me

Ace Combat boss fights + Project Wingman OST gave me an indescribable vibe. Some of the music worked on some levels, but I'm all for it.

I love how after 5:47 all the major parts of the mission just SYNCS super well with the soundtrack like holy shit 6:32 and 6:46.
Markov even had that Project Wingman "Boss takes 57 missiles and 8000 rounds of ammo before dying" health bar.
I read your description. Markov firing backwards actually isn't new to either AC, or IRL. AC5 mission First Flight, enemy planes attacking Grimm will literally fire missiles backwards. Also, IRL some jets have a display that would allow them to fire missiles backwards. Also, IMHO, Markov's plot armor pales in comparison's to Mihaly's. Also, I think AC:AH is not as bad as people say it is.
Don't get me wrong bud, I don't hate AC:AH at all. It's an excellent game, just not a very good representation of an Ace Combat title.
And in response to your statement on backwards firing missiles, I had only recently learned that myself that some planes can shoot them backwards. To my knowledge, there's some specific Russian fighters that can do it.
Side note: The reason why I say Markov's ability to shoot backwards is a load of bull is because of the ridiculous amount of damage he's able to get on you, with insane amounts of accuracy

Aside from Realistic damage modeling and the ability to indulge in my fantasies of using an F-22 to swat away Dozens of Sukhois for half the entire game; the only really good parts of AH was it's story. But now with Russian Incompetence on full display in Ukraine it feels like a Bad Joke.
Along with damn near every other story featuring Russians like CoD Modern Warfare 2 and MANY OTHERS...

why scripted bosses are bad but overhealed bosses like in project wingman are fine:
-overhealed bosses actually reward you instead of just making all of your progress irrelevant
It's worse when you realize that you're basically glued to Akula and can't fly wherever you please.

But honestly, even in Mercenary in PW if you pumped this many bullets into Crimson 1 he'd be dead. The scripting was kind of obnoxious. The game has good gunfire sounds though at least.

They work well together.
Too bad AH's dogfight mechanic and QTEs ruined the game for me. Really hard to feel the flow of the fight when you have to focus on a QTE just to kill something, not to mention how the enemy can latch on to your ass and you cant shake them unless you use that same mechanic.
Just like Fallout 4, it would be received better if it hadn't been part of a larger franchise. Seems like an alright game overall (I never made it past like mission 3) but its not a good Ace Combat game.

This entire fight is artificial difficulty at it's finest folks. Watch as Markov's plane tanks thousands of 20mm cannon rounds and dozens of missiles with ease.
Markov puts the I in Plot Armor and transforms it in Pilot Armor...

The weapons would've been way better too instead of just a basic cruise missile.
Probably would've ended up being some super weapon that none of us can think of.

the dogfight system had potential when used to make cinematic shoots... but as a main mecanic just didn't work.
you need to fight in places where you can pass near buildings or canyons to make it really interesting.
i love ACAH, since it was teh first AC game i played. project wingman has the best voice lines, voice acting, great plot and the best bossfight in jet arcade gaming history
First AC game I ever played too. As much as I dislike it for an "Ace Combat" title, I'd have never discovered the Ace Combat franchise had I never played it.
Jesus christ this whole video is FUCKING BADASS. The end got me though, it's so beautiful, especially with PW's OST.

This had so many good timings and it was amazing to watch. The only thing that I think could have made this better was if you played coronation at the end. I like this game no matter what people say about it.

That was an unprofessional pilot move, in real war you are practically dead if your opponent gets an easy shot like that, when you could have reversed it by pressing L2, R2 on your controller together.

AH doesn’t look nearly as bad as people say, I’ve heard it criticized for being able to get behind an aircraft with a button press if they try to engage in dogfight mode. But from this I feel like that doesn’t happen often with bosses

Assault horizon will always be the black sheep of the AC family. I enjoyed it as an arcade jet game. But it didn't feel ace combat. And the big killer was that it was set on earth. And not Strangereal. So it's not like we could have aigaion, Excalibur, XBO, Solg, etc as bosses. Instead we got Markov and a cruise missile. To this day it remains the only ace combat game I didn't feel a desire to 100% but as a game, it's not the worst thing I've ever played.
Once again, that's basically my take on the matter.

@@alfirachma4102 I actually didn't mind most of the scripted events, I actually enjoyed some of the more cinematic stuff, it was the overuse of DogFight mode that mainly killed it for me.

Ugh; a absolutely LOATHED Dogfight Mode in Assault Horizon. So much so that Every SINGLE *TGT LEAD* I managed to kill outside of it made me Immensely Proud of myself.
Ngl, the widescreen ratio makes this video look cinematic.
Making certain enemies only killable in DFM really hurt this game. It was a neat idea but gah they just went too nuts with it.

Personally I could do better, but you can only do so much with AC:AH's DFM mode.
The soundtrack really makes makes me feel that Markov is carrying a powerful nuke that can destroy cities while In reallity, Trinity's explosion is still less powerful compared to Ace Combat's MPBMs and PW's Cordium missile
Very true, but still gets a good point across.
It depicts Markov as an actual threat to the United States in this situation. While it isn't as catastrophic as a cordium bomb, there's still a valuable target at stake here (obviously the white house)

This game would have been so much better had it just stuck with the traditional gameplay of AC5 or 6 and not gun with that gimmicky over the shoulder dogfight cam system.
If it stayed in Strangereal we'd have 8 ace combats by now. I really don't like that they made the attempt to get away from the fictional, traditional Ace Combat world, but if it weren't for this game, I'd have never discovered the Strangereal world in the first place. It does deserve some credit

The music vastly improves the game, but sadly will never save the fact that the fight was overly scripted....that or Markov learned from Mihlay about Noncritical areas.
In my opinion, assault horizon looks good and has a good soundtrack. Will never be able to live up to the ace combat name. I have a sneaking suspicion that it was originally just called assault horizon, and wasn’t originally called an ace combat game.

AH is way too hated, I enjoyed it way more than AC7. I felt like such a badass in Assault Horizon.
when i firts saw this mission on ytb, the first thing that came to mind was the mission on AC2 where you destroy a giant sub, but just as you fired the last round, it fired a cruise missile and you had to chase it and shoot it down. in that missions your missiles wont lock on it, and you have to use your guns, you dont have a crosshair in outside view and the HUD aim, altough it helps, the thing moves way too often for steady shots, and gunning in that game was garbage(even tho the gun in that game was better than any other Ace combat that came later for the PSP and PS2)

I was about to ask why people hate this game do much then I realized this is not an ace combat game, that being said imagine that dog fight mechanic in VR you probably end up dying but with a bit more polished mechanic, and project wingman graphic, accompanied by heavy metal music probably a fun experience
