The one that you saw wasn't the waterfall that the guy was talking about. It takes quite a long hike through the mountains to reach the waterfall, but it's worth it in my opinion😅
There’s still a small community of a couple of thousand jewish people live in Morocco (most of them are in Casablanca. There were 300.000 jewish Moroccans but they emigrated in the late 60’s. That’s why there are a million Moroccan jews that live in Israel. 99% of the population is Muslim, the rest are Christians and Jews. Fun fact: there’s a church called Inglesia (which means English) in Chefchaouen. If you want any tips on Moroccan dishes, here are some of my favorite. Djajj Mhammar - grilled chicken out of the oven with olives and preserved lemon. Bestilla - filopasty filled with pulled chicken, eggs, crushed almonds and topped of with a little bit of powdered sugar and cinnamon. There’s also a fish variat filled with shrimp, calamaris, fish, paprika and noodles. Tajine lham o barkok - lamb or beef tajine with prunes and almond. Rfissa (locals favorite) - stewed lentils with onion and garlic, chicken and msemen (but it’s cut into something like noodles)
The blue color is there for many centuries and the reason of the blue color in chefchaoune is to avoid mosquitoes because it’s in the middle of the mountains and if you notice you feel like there is no insects there. And not because of Jewish is just a myth
Hi you're a really lovely happy Scottish couples, i a want tell Something, about 5 years ago, A Irish man visited cheafchwean, and he see a Small Antique shop, so he Bought a small statue, the Chop owner ask him for 100.00pounds and Irish man Hugle he only give him for 50.00 pounds, and when he is To irland ,he took the statue to Antique shop, he was very lucky, the statue worth 37 000 Thousands. It is true, I do visit Cheafchwean is very healthy climate, and people are really Nice ,have a wonderful stay in Morocco, and GOD BLESS YOU BOTH.
It’s not about the country been Islamic for Jewish to exist or not, if you study a bit of history you will know the Jewish flee from WW2 to many Muslim countries and they been living with Muslims for centuries until the start of Israel were all Jewish around the world migrated to the new Israel. The 2 largest communities today in Israel are Jewish Russian as first and Jewish Moroccans as 2nd
Just to know, the real name of Chefchaouen is Achawan which means in Amazigh / Berber language "the horns", as you see mountains like the horns in front of the city. Enjoy your trip in Morocco , the name came from Marrakech which means in Amazigh / Berber language "Amur n Akuch", "the land of God" ! So it's not surprising that Morocco and Moroccans are welcoming to everyone, despite his nation or religions or skin colour !
Yes, Chef Chefchawan or Chaween, is blue because the Jewish community back then painted their houses color blue....and it that color became the principal symbol of the City....
Chefchaouen is city of blue nothing to do with anyone, Morocco is Amazigh people, I live there n Scotland , Morocco not cheap , and Scotland not cheap Either , so you guys enjoy and have fun and stop complaining

Your assertions behind the history of the use of the color blue caught my eye, just as the city does, and the color blue itself (my favorite). I asked 2 separate AI programs this question: “Why is, or what is the story behind the predominant use of the color blue in Chefchaouen, Morocco?” The 2 different, yet essentially same answers (conclusions) are given below and separated by a space in between them. I’m now curious as to if there’s some type of bias you have in your comment for one reason or another, or if it’s essentially just a matter of you seeming to be misinformed yourself. While there is no definitive, physical proof/documentation stating that the blue is tied back to religious aspects, that story obviously has merit through oral tradition, and shouldn’t be wholly discounted in the same way that you have. If you can shed some factual context to this topic, I’m all eyes and ears 👍🏼 The story behind Chefchaouen's blue hues is multifaceted, combining historical influences from Jewish culture with practical considerations and aesthetic choices. This blend of factors has created a visually stunning environment that continues to enchant visitors while reflecting the town's rich heritage. The blue of Chefchaouen is a blend of tradition, religion, practicality, and aesthetics. Whether originating from the Jewish community's religious practices, a method of dealing with the heat, or simply a cultural trend, the color has become emblematic of the city. Today, it serves as both a tribute to the past and a symbol of Chefchaouen's unique charm.

Makes sense we weren’t overly impressed by it🤣
@Alan_and_Shannon If you're still in chefchaoun, you should definitely go through with the hike, especially since you don't have kids with you.
