Laird’s discussion around the relationship between us and our dogs was beautiful.

It's very touching. He got choked up talking about Athena.

Thank you for the great interview. Laird is a great imaginative writer and an extremely interesting fellow to talk to in his own right.. I always enjoy and learn a few things from his interviews. Take care.

This should have way more views. Laird Barron can easily explain very nuanced things and doesn't hesitate to share some very personal stories.

So many insights into Barron's work and life! Thanks. He's got an awesome standalone story out, Joren Falls, where he's back at his best!
I've also discovered Gordon B White and John Hornor Jacobs and am absolutely engulfed by their fiction.

His story "American Remake of a Japanese Ghost Story" is loosely a sequel to "Joren Falls" and features Jessica Mace!

@Greg, so funny I was OBSESSED with continuity as a kid, specifically with comics! I would complete disown else-worlds, or what ifs bc they were NOT in continuity. Now I find I thirst for anything thats more loose with continuity and lets artists play with characters/worlds however they want.
Also, MASSIVE, die-hard Laird Barron fan. I have read everything this man has published. His writing is so important to me and has influenced me so much as an artist.

Holy fuck. When he became emotional talking about Athena. What a guy.
I’d love to talk to him about his constant referencing of Wales, the Welsh and that general old, dark British vibe. I feel like Isiah could have even have Maori half Welsh instead of English. Not that it matters at all but it wouldn’t have surprised me if he Isiah was a Welsh Maori.
Anyway, as a Welshman I’m fascinated with what keeps him mentioning the Welsh. At least in his collections of short stories.

    • @chthonica

Yeah, hearing him say that at the end of the drive across country they were "pack" and then the look in his eye considering losing her... it got to me.

Barron's stories are hit or miss. I like most of them but Catch Hell was sooooooooo bad... Cheesy red devils with pitchforks are laughable and thoroughly uninteresting. There's the occasional good sentence but the content of the story ruins any stylistic accomplishments in it. Throw in a few tentacles and astronomy/geology references and I might start liking it, but I am not looking for draculas, I am looking for something weirder.
