I applied your method to remove the thumb stud from My Boomerang Chris Reeve blade and it worked without a flaw Now I can add the custom double thumb studs I bought thank you this is definitely a noteworthy video. Manny
Thanks for the vid! I ended up using a ball joint separator for my small sebenza and it worked perfectly. I put thin pieces of Styrofoam on the forked half to place the blade on, then I used an old bit on the other half as in the video. Turning the screw by hand (no tools) was enough force to remove the stud, so very easy overall.
thanks dude this worked great. I used a 7mm 6pt socket and a h5/64 bit to push it. I don't have leather so I used my belt and the pin for through the hole perfect.
Great video, thanks! Removal went fine. Agree with everyone on taping the blade. However, after I cut the connector shorter I can not get a stud on the side I cut and I've tried a dremel to smooth and flatten the cut end. Frustrated. Any advice or a video to direct me to...or does TI or someone make the proper length connectors? Seems odd to have to cut them down.
The best way I've found to do it is put the connector in the chuck of a drill, then turn on a belt sander, spin the connector in the drill against the belt sander and round over the edges. It usually always works great after that.
Is it possible to put the stud back on? I tried this method and it was surprisingly easy to get the stud out, but in case I want to sell I'd want to put the stock stud back in.
bladecentered haha I actually just watched the part where you said you never put one back in and was about to delete my comment, so I’m happy you replied. Thanks!
Agree, the CR thumb is too pointy. You have to wonder what their thinking is for it's shape. I definitely prefer knives with thumb studs that have a flatter top.
I wish someone just made a cap that fit over the point and then I could try it without violating my warranty. It would hold very easily with glue, and it would be easy enough to remove later if you needed to send it back for any reason.
The deployment is not "difficult". These are not meant to be flicked open. As a matter of fact, CRK's warranty states that if it is apparent that damage to the knive is caused by flicking, the warranty is voided. These are literally designed to be slow-rolled out. It's is not a flaw, it is a design choice.
The only fucked up thing about this knife is the thumb studs. My thumb is all messed up thanks to that stupid idea of having it pointed. I would change the color to red
Hard to watch you try and flick that blade out over and over, not really how they’re meant to be deployed. If that’s your cup of tea at least loosen the pivot screw a bit!
Are these the #3 thumbstuds? I hate my studs on my small inkosi and would like the change them out.
Number 8
@@bladecentered2264 thanks. I’m give it a try, fingers crossed I don’t fuck it up. Lol

Dude that was nerve racking to watch. I can see this going south fast. Good job.

What you are calling a "drill bit" is actually called a socket.

Might share a link / info on the replacement thumb stud you used? Cool stuff
Awesome vid. Used a second clamp to hold the blade in place and worked perfectly
Good call!!!
Great video!
Were you able to open the knife one handed with just the whole in the blade like you tried at 7:18?
Sometimes you can depending on the strength of the detent
@@bladecentered2264thank you for the quick response
What did you use to cut the thread connecter
Watching this made me realized I should have gone with the micarta inlay rather than striped platan 21. Great vid btw!
Nah
how would you get the double lug thumb studs off? wasn't able to find a video on that. thanks!

Where did you buy the new ones? Great video. I’ll be replacing mine also.
Did you ever find any, I have been looking for a while?

Where do you get those thumb studs
If anybody tries this method, tape up your blade in case you drop the knife or hit it against the vice.
If you swap the studs like you did, can you still send in the sebenza for service/warranty?
I think you should be able to. You can already just take the thumb stud off and send it back without one in
Thats the Strongest "Drill Bit" I have ever seen. Good workmanship I'll give you that. You would be a first pick for my Pit crew. Do you do VW MK2's?

enjoyed this content, brave man but it turned out great. cheers
Thx man!
Do you know or anyone on this thread know the ID (inner diameter) of the hole for stud? And where I can buy replacements? Thank you!

Yeah you can put them back in I've done it, just haven't made a video on it yet
Did you loosen the pivot to be able to front flick it ? Your bravery with the vice earned my sub.
Thx, no it's just a smooth knife
nice.. guess I need to keep working mine
Great work
You ever put one back on?
Yeah I did, it's pretty easy
bladecentered haha I actually just watched the part where you said you never put one back in and was about to delete my comment, so I’m happy you replied.
Thanks!
Yeah I have put one back on after I made this video, I might do another video showing how I did it
Socket. Thanks for the vid I'm going to use a c-clamp to press mine out.
Great video man. Loved it
It is not flick open knife.Just smooth
Cool technique. Try a socket instead of a drill bit. 😉
Nice 👍 tutorial
Thanks Brian!

Your one Handy guy

I don't think it voids the warranty because I can put the thumbstuds back in
It might I forgot to check
That it I'm sending mine back! As Beautiful as it is, deployment should not be that Difficult!! Thanks for the great Information.!!🦊

Doesn’t seem worth having a chance to crack the blade.
Yeah definitely something to consider
Safety tip of the day - Tape the blade edge
Thumb studs were the main reason I traded my 21 off.
Balls of S35VN steel.
Lol

No way in Hell I, nor anyone should do this...
You must have been saying your prayers that it came out good thank God
