    NASCAR is a lot tougher than you might think, just because they only go left, that doesn't mean it's not difficult, and that is just a washed up argument anyways. Imagine your at a turn at Talladega Speedway. The bank angle is a whopping 33 degrees and you are going around 200mph with a car on your left and right going the same speed but only inches away, sometimes even bumping you. These drivers have to be very precise in their driving, or they can take out many cars with one small mistake. Also, because the specifications on the cars are relatively the same, driver skill plays a large role in racing. As in f1, we often see the high powered Mercs easily beating other teams with less powerful engines. No discredit to Lewis and Nico though, because they are excellent drivers.

      +gainpro NASCAR really isn't that boring though. It's certainly a lot more exciting than F1 because all the cars are identical in terms of performance. In F1, all the cars have spread out after a few laps and there isn't much going on, but in NASCAR, you've often got packs of a dozen cars (or more!) racing inches away from each other even after a hundred laps.

    • @bonosimic532
      @bonosimic532 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      exactly ! those that come up with "only left turns" are the uninformed ignorant, besides there are a number of tough roadcourses in NASCAR too. professional drivers who have transitioned from f1 to NASCAR have not been able to be successful in it, and yet they all said how much more intense and fun it is compared to f1.

      I'm sorry gonal, but you are pretty wrong. The Red Bull Racing Brian Vickers #83 Toyota Camry used to race in the Sprint Cup Series in 2011, where they ran over 800 HP in the cars. The 500 HP number comes from the engine being incredibly detuned. You are correct that some of the cars there were not ones that took part in the Sprint Cup Series, but instead the Nationwide Series. It is true that those cars are not as fast and powerful as the Sprint Cup Cars, but they still made over 700 HP, not 500.

      +chargenick1563 I don't think they're NNS cars, I think they're ARCA cars.

    • @modelcitizen1977
      @modelcitizen1977 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're playing fast and loose with the NASCAR nomenclature. My first thought when he mentioned 500HP was "Oh, so that's why they're letting any dumbass with a few bucks out on their own with them."
      Don't get me wrong, 150Mph is quick, but it doesn't feel that fast when the road is 50ft wide with runoff to spare. You don't even have to brake for the turns.

    For all of the people who say NASCAR is just a bunch of left turns, you're wrong. While they do run mostly ovals, they also race on road courses from time-to-time. NASCAR has a road course race coming up in Watkins Glen, NY the first Sunday in August.

    Just for a reference as to how difficult NASCAR actually is. Juan Pablo Montoya had seven wins in F1 from 2001 to 2006, including a Monaco Grand Prix. In nine years of NASCAR Sprint Cup racing he only has two wins. I know it's hard to compare the two, but this just shows that NASCAR may not be as simple as it may seem.

    Glad you were able to have the experience even though it is significantly less powerful than the actual race cars were at the time that they ran. I guess they don't want anyone smacking the wall at 190 mph and hurting themselves. For those that are not familiar with NASCAR cars, the entire car starts as a custom built tubular chassis on to which they fasten custom rolled steel body panels mimicking a current at the time production vehicle. There are templates that the car has to fit into in order to qualify, meaning that the body has to follow specific guidelines for height, width and length as well as shape.
    The engines are custom built and usually are 355 CI (5.8 liters). The heads alone cost over 10k to machine and setup. The engine is normally aspirated V8 with single overhead cam and one spark plug per cylinder. Some of the circuits require a restrictor plate between the carb and the intake to limit the max airflow going into the intake. The only thing that could be considered computer controlled would possibly be a rev limiter to keep heavy right feet from blowing the engine.

    I was lucky enough to have a similar experience in some hot laps on the passenger seat of a NASCAR race car without helmet, there was a big hole in the firewall between me and the tire and all de rock chips of the circuit went directly to my face. One of the best experiences of my life.

    *Did you get an email about the Ford GT yet?*

  • @timgermanyjr
    @timgermanyjr 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shmee touched on it but its worth noting that these are the lower end of NASCAR series cars. The top series features decals for the newer models and in the past have run average laps @ 212 mph on some tracks. They also handle better than you think they do. 2 road corses are part of the season and they run lap times that would rival some of the best cars out there. The best part about NASCAR is how raw it is. It's the most driver oriented series out here. No magnetic dampers, no power steering, no dual clutch transmissions. Just driver, wheel, and motor. And 200 mpg at 1+g going hard into a corner 3 wide with 1 inch between cars is intense.

    nascar tips:
    For curve turns go low to prevent tire marbles
    In flat road stay right but try to avoid a crash if happens
    Pit stop Speed: 35mph
    its better to beat a pace car if a crash or a big one happened
    Thats all

    @Shmee150 Great video Tim!! The REAL NASCAR CAR used to be 800 HP, was downgraded to 725 HP. The races are incredibly exciting even though turning left, left, left becomes somewhat monotonous, the NASCAR Tracks in the USA have banked corners which are needed to keep the cars on the track while going through the corners at 150 - 180 MPH!!!!! Way to go👍👍👍👍 Very excited to see you have that opportunity!!!!!!! LARRY from 🇨🇦👍👍👍👍👍👍

I did the ride along on the "Tricky Triangle" at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania. It's a bit different than a typical oval. They also do super car rides/drives there. In addition, they have a kart racing experience. My son has done some karting and drove the course at Pocono. Anyway, it was fun taking a look back. Maybe you'll take a trip "across the pond" in 2018! Have a Happy New Year. Looking forward to some Porsche videos soon! Take care.....

    Guys cmon, we know its Nascar and it can be boring because its just left turns, but dont forget that is a 500hp car, light and with more or less a straight pipe. Everything is shaking and noisy and fuel smell, so must be a nice experience. also really fast

    Why don't you get one of the last model Ford GT, great car and also great investment. That will for sure get you in good with Ford and you can find some with no mileage on them.
