A tree being said to be one of the most vigorous varieties is not a fair statement unless you have tried to grow many of them and they all have that trait. I have some varieties I purchased from reputable growers on fig bid that three years later still are struggling to grow over a foot or two tall and they are horrible growers, but yet the cuttings I took and grew off of those trees grew 5- 6 feet in one season. So I guess what I'm saying is not all trees of that variety will be vigorous. But maybe you can make one off of it that is,and I believe that goes for all varieties not just ones that someone says is vigorous

Kinda off-topic, but I was wondering... If figs go dormant in the winter, then why do you store them indoors during the winter? Is it because the low temperatures outside can actually kill it, even in its dormancy?

The roots can take damage around 15F. Better to move the pots somewhere warmer.

I wouldn't say "a bad review". You seem rather honest in evaluating it - in the moment. But it's just one more new variety to add to us beginner's choices ... which is already confusing. I suppose if you're already a fig collector with a lot of experience it might give you an option to add but personally I'm still trying to get a decent basic collection together. I do have a lot of confidence however in your advice. So thanks for sharing your insight. Some of it will be stored for future use :).

I'm in the same position. My decision has been to focus on plant acquisition by my palate preference; hands down, it is the honey fig. Ross has an excellent spreadsheet posted that groups fig varieties by their flavor profile. At this time I am surfing FigBid for varieties from his spreadsheet that are within my price range.

Have you ever considered writing a book? I have not found a good practicum of fig culture anywhere. Amazon lists 3 books that are short, mainly pictures and chock-full of history. The best of the bunch, Growing Figs in Cold Climates, is 128 pages of pictures and historical content, and much of the information seems derivative. Just my two cents' worth.
