Howdy Braquaman! That really is a wonderful tank. I really am starting to get interested in the Father Fish method. It makes so much sense and has all the building blocks for a healthy thriving ecosystem with minimal maintenance. Love it! Merry Christmas to you and your family and thanks for sharing 🤠
I love that you planted "throw-aways" from the aquarium store! Thanks for this really outstanding update, and I look forward to future updates. Merry Christmas and thanks for the inspiration!!!
Thanks for the update Brock, it’s my favourite tank of yours, very similar to mine n started more or less at the same time. I must admit your plants are showing more growth than mine n hope it’s because you heat your tank n l don’t ( it sometimes even dips below 60F) l spend so much time watching mine that l also use the time to practice the ‘Asian’ squat or deep squat, REALLY good exercise especially as I’ve turned 70. God bless your endeavours 🙏✝️. ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️. 🙋♀️🤍🇮🇱✌️
Absolutely fantastic explanation and tour. I’m planning on getting back into the hobby after Christmas. This is a model for what I hope to accomplish. Thanks, keep fishing 😊
nice video and tank! FYI. Platies will eat shrimp. so does some Plecos, and Scuds. I highly recommend creating a stack of rocks for the baby shrimp to hide away.
Hey Brock I also have a father fish deep substrate aquarium. It's been going for almost 2 years and my fish love it my tank is 90 percent planted and I have kribensis spawning in there they are on there 6th spawn. Know I have electric blue acrua they spawned in there but all the fry got eaten. But next time they spawned im gonna take the fry out. By the time I realized it was to late to get them cause my tank is heavily planted. I like your father fish setup it's very nice and you did a great job. Merry Christmas to you and your family Brock
Thanks for sharing. I have another father fish style setup that I’m breeding Electric blue Acara in. The second one is 125 gallon and I didn’t buy the stuff from his website Just potting soil, plants propagated from other tanks and 2 EBA
The benefit of it is that you don’t need to know the water perimeter. What decades of Fish keeping with this style has taught us is that if you follow these steps, it will balance itself and you can keep almost any type of fish in here. Father Fish keeps discus. I say almost because any fish that digs up the substrate and destroys the plants doesn’t really work in the father fish method.
There were dozens of snails on the bottom. The point of natural aquariums is that if you have a lot of plants and not a lot of fish, you don’t have to worry about nitrates Even if you over feed it is going to stay balanced. Worst case scenario you might get more algea It has been proven effective over long periods of time. No need to create problems where they don’t exist There is a lot of misinformation out there about the dangers of nitrates.
@uncommonaquatics Ok, fair enough. The three snails you did point out were near the top, and that raised my eyebrows a little. I also understand that dirted tanks can be a little spikey with the NH3 at first. Your fish all look healthy and happy at any rate.

Merry Christmas Brock and family. Hope you have a happy and safe holiday. ⚡️🦾🔱🎯
Merry Christmas
I like that tank as well.
Big discrepancy concerning play sand vs blasting or pool filter sand. Which is superior??
I like pool filter sand i have it in my 55 gallon aquarium and both in my to 10 gallon aquariums
River sand
Nice
Can you describe the water parameters in this "Father Fish" aquarium???
The benefit of it is that you don’t need to know the water perimeter. What decades of Fish keeping with this style has taught us is that if you follow these steps, it will balance itself and you can keep almost any type of fish in here.
Father Fish keeps discus.
I say almost because any fish that digs up the substrate and destroys the plants doesn’t really work in the father fish method.
All your snails seem to favor the top.
Red flag.
I'd do a water test to be sure there isn't a buildup of NH3 or nitrates.
There were dozens of snails on the bottom.
