  • This is my review on my air compressor from harbor freight that I have had quite a bit of experience with and have really enjoyed having over the last few years despite some irritating characteristics it has.

You need to install a electric pole and wire your shop up correctly before you burn up your tools, most electric companies will connect power for a work shop without all the red tape needed for connection of residential homes.

It's not a pole issue, its a _temporary shop_ issue. Not going to invest a bunch of money into something temporary. I'll be out of this shop in the next 6 - 12 months.

I just picked one of these up to replace a 16 yrs old Craftsman oil less that died. I find the CP isn’t as loud as the Craftsman was. I hooked it up to the Craftsman 26 gallon tank to double the capacity. I was thinking of getting a new oil lubed pump and motor, but that was as much as 2 of these. So thinking of just getting a second or the newer version.

Michael Hite I’m surprised to read that this was more quiet than another compressor. I have to put hearing protection on each time I turn it on. If you can find the CP on a parking lot sale you can pick them up CHEAP these days. If you’re in more of a hurry to get one, I have seen and heard nothing but good things about that 20 gallon McGraw from HF. Good luck.

Derek's Workshop and Projects I was surprised too. Everyone who reviewed the CP said how loud it was. But the Craftsman was a cheap oil less. At my new garage I’ll be able to put the compressor in a little room by itself.

I have one as well, but mine is plugged directly into a 20 amp circuit which also powers the lights in the shop at my moms house. Never had any problems with it, loud as hell though, I run air impacts and air ratchets with just the one compressor and it seems to work fine. Have the different drain valve on mine which works fine, kind of a pain in the ass to tilt the compressor to drain it, but it's fine. I don't use it very often but it's been working fine for over a year now and worked for a bunch of projects, timing belt change, roofing nailer, and some finish nailing.
Would also buy the McGraw or a Fortress instead of this though if I were to buy again.
If you go on Harbor Freight's website they now have a catalog of spare parts, just search "Spare parts" on the website and the PDF will come up, you can theoretically order a replacement for that cork, and air filters.

Wanting two tanks for running bigger air tools wasn’t necessarily that I didn’t think one could handle it because it certainly does, more that I figured that if I doubled the capacity it would go that much longer with them not plugged in and filling with air while working in this shop. Also that in the future I pretty much would have enough air in two of these to do pretty much anything I wanted without question with compressed air. I’ll check the parts section out on the website.
I might consider the similar sized Fortress compressor but the McGraw just seems to be at that sweet spot.

@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects yeah in a multipurpose shop it's nice to have at least 4CFM to run heavy duty air tools of you need them, never regretted getting the Earthquake, Central Pneumatic combo, had to take lugnuts off a Kubota tractor a couple of times now and it's been great.

Do you empty your tank at the end of the day? I'm always concern about leaving compressed air, as I'm not sure when I'll use it again. Thanks

greg Botlin I leave it full but with the power off. I shut off the valves. The reason why is like I explained in the video, it’s kind of a pain in the butt to refill it because I don’t actually have power in the shop.

Oil fill cap is a breather value it has a hole in it to real ease build up oil pressure if over filled

Yup, I drilled a hole in the rubber cap I used to replace the one that broke.
