Thanks - appreciate that you sped it up, so I could watch unboxing and usage quickly. Some splitters require you open the hydraulic bleed screw before operating. I didn't notice you do that, but maybe that's not required for the HF unit, or perhaps you didn't record that part.

yes it is required to open the bleed valve. It was cut out of the video.

If you are splitting hard wood, make sure no one is standing on the knife side. Specially small children. So the best practice is to make sure keep clear on the right hand side.

Looking at this Harbor Freight model and the Bilt Hard, which is the same price (actually only $279 from one supplier) and is 15 amp, 6.5 ton, so I think my choice is obvious. I still don't care for the fact you need to shut the motor off for the ram to come back. There are a few if the 7 and 9 tone splitters that are only one hand operation, where the motor stays running (quite a bit more money) so I'm sure there is a modification that can be made on there splitters also.

@@PainterD54 what I understood about the two hand operation is in fact a safety feature to avoid inexperienced people hurt their hands, this way both of their hands is away from the log (so I read somewhere).sure one hand operation or even a foot paddle would be nice, I am thinking of making the change.

Question - why are you splitting your wood so small. You have fairly small rounds and you split them into quarters? They are already dry! Why not just split in half? I do have this splitter and I recommend if you want to speed up the operation a little, buy an adjustable bar C type clamp from Harbor Freight and just clamp the on off button down, then your switch becomes your power cord! I like this splitter and use it all the time in a 1 handed operation! Had it now for over 15 years and still runs great!

thanks for the comment and suggestion. I am mostly doing it for fun. I live in California near Fresno. Also my stove is a metal stand alone one with smaller door. splitting into smaller pieces to help start and use larger ones later.

How big a log does it split

Did you just throw the owner manual away? WTF?
First you should always check and see if there is enough hydraulic fluid in the tank before you start splitting and you forgot to open the bleed screw before splitting. You are going to blow out your seals.

thanks for the comments, Just trying to show the tool. In fact I already did my research before I settle on this one and already knew the key safety steps. no worries.

It just a random small clamp in my garage, not meant for this as it doesn’t really grip on the smooth bar. Did it with a quick dirty test, should buy a proper one.

@@NorthEastFool, or could just place an appropriate sized log between the plate & the rear of the pusher. Cheap, effective !

I need to learn slowly on video editing. Trying to save viewer time so all clips are on 2x speed now. It is a bad idea since some clips are very scary at 2x speed. Thanks a lot.
