- In depth review of a Zebco 33 Max Black. This is the 3 ball bearing model. I purchased this on Ebay and it had some problems. I go in deep and service and repair the reel and bring it back from being a parts reel.

Bearing in the nose: EY030-01. Look for a 33Gold or 33Platinum. Size is 1/4x1/2x3/16 Inch. Part number: SR188Z. Can be found on Ebay or Amazon.
Then I super tune it by adding a 4th bearing to the handle shaft making it a 4 ball bearing reel.
Part # LY030-1. Size is 8X14X4 mm. Part # MR148Z: regular chrome steel. SMR148-ZZ: 440 Stainless Steel - BEST! These can be found on ebay.
Last week I did order one Zebco 33 Max spincast from Amazon to be sent to me in Thailand. It will take 14 days to deliver to my place and will cost about 41 bucks all together. In 1974 I was in Oklahoma I used Zebco for fishing there. I found that Zebco reel was the best for me at that time and it also was very cheap. I love Zebco and I am a Zebco man.

Another great, very informative video. Thanks. I've learned a lot from watching your videos. One comment, when you oiled that new bearing I think you used enough oil for a dozen or so reels. All good, just razzing you a little for fun. Thanks again for the well done video.
You are right. I need to back off a little on the bearing oil. Sometimes just too much comes out. It just takes a little.

Yes, I would love to do a tune up, repair or service video on a Zebco 733. I don't have one right now (and they aren't made any more), but I could fix that by adding another one to my collection. Would you do me a favor? Will you use the "About" me on my home page and send me an email to the address listed there with a photo of your reel? There were different 733s made. One is more like the Authentic 33 made in the mid 2000s to about 2010. And another that was made before that. The later one I am pretty sure could be super tuned with the ability to add additional ball bearing.

Me and Zebco grew up together, I'm now 71 years old. I have written some stories about the Zebco reels i have used over the years as well as my 733 and how it was damaged. If you would be interested I could email it to you.
My 733 has the drag system. My first 733 was one which did not have a drag. I was very happy when it went by-by.

i picked the newest version of this reel, along with a Shimano FXC66MHC2, to replace my son's last rod and reel that was yanked out of his hand by a monster of some sort (allegedly a catfish of some kind) in one of our local ponds in our little town here in illinois.
i have a question; what type of syringe is used to apply the grease at 10:40 and where is it available? this looks a lot handier than the little brush i use.
your style is like sitting down with dad or grandpa; easy to understand and step by step WHY things go the way they do.

I got that syringe to grease my old sewing machines. I can't recall where I got it. Dentists give them to patients after teeth are extracted to clean out the holes

Thanks for your review, new reel and grease on the fiber washers, guess that answers my question from a previous post about grease in the drag system. What grease are you using?
Your are welcome! Thanks for watching. I use a lighter weight Triflow brand grease. It is a sewing machine grade, so high quality. However any high quality oil and grease without solvents in it will work. Try the Penn Reel oil and grease. Great stuff. Here is a link to the recommended lubrication guide for Zebco Spincast reels. www.zebco.com/tips-maintenance/reels Notice that they recommend grease on the drag washers. I also grease a couple extra places, like the inside of the spinner code.
How far does the 33 max cast out compared to the regular 33 model. I'm interested in one.i bought a huge spinning reel for catfishing and it just ain't for me. I thank the zebco would suit me better
Chris, That is a great question. A 33 Max can easily cast 60-70 yards or more using 20 pound test with at least an ounce of bait+weight. Use a 9-10 foot rod. If you want to cast a little farther, try 15-17 and use a limber monofilament for casting. Stren, Sufix, Berkley and others carry a mono made for longer casts. The 33 Max is really nice. With it super tuned with the additional bearings it should last a long time.

I have the omega real for normal fishing.i just want the 33 max for catfish.im really eye balling the gold one.zebco needs to offer higher end reels in the bigger spincast reels but no one else really offers high end heavy spincast reels either
@@tnoutdoordudes I meant 15-17 pound test line. A 17 foot pole would be a doosy! lol. Although they use long poles like that in England to fish for Bream. A strange fishing method that is pretty cool.
@@tnoutdoordudes The gold is nice, but it lacks a bite alert. However the Zebco Pro Staff 888 is a really nice big fish reel, is a three ball bearing reel and has a bite alert. They are about the same as a 33 Max. Search Ebay for Zebco 888 Pro Staff. Other than that, get a 33 Max on Ebay. Most are two ball bearing reels and you can add a bearing to the nose and the shaft and have a high end reel. I like the looks of the 33 Max Salt Fisher.

Okay so I just took the ball bearings out of my RSC3 Drive Gear and put them into my New Max N and it seems to work so HZ026-01 from RSC2 and RZ026-01 from RSC3B and any of the other variations should work.

@@OutFishing13Matthew I just received some bearings from Zebco and the bearing for the RSC2 didn't for this 33Max or the RSC3 so apparently the RSC2's are a different smaller size.

I think it's cheaper just to go through Zebco for the bearings. Some of them are under $1 each and some of them are over a $1 each.

Sir I have 4 Zebco 33 Max Reels paired with the Berkley Cherrywood HD 7" Medium Heavy Rods. How many Part LY030-1 would I need for all 4 reels?
I can't say for sure so ce some already have a handle bearing. My guess is you will need 2 LY030-01 bearings for each reel and 1 EY030-01 for each reel. So 8 LY030-01 and 4 EY030-01. I suggest you take off the back just to make sure

Always print out a part list for your new reels cause in 10 years when you need a part you wont be able to find a parts list for your reels.

I have one of these reels, and it is fantastic. That being said, it's to the point where it needs to be cleaned and re-greased. Is there a particular grease/oil you recommend using
Use a good light weight reel oil for bearing, handle, and other small parts. And use a good reel grease for the gears and drag. You can find find the "PENN Angler Pack - Oil and Grease" at BassPro

Ed, keep looking each week. It can be hard to find many of these older models. They do come up from time to time.
Is the Zebco 33 folds of honor reel the same as the 33 classic? Because I have a folds of honor reel I tried to disassemble and I broke it.

2.6:1 gear ratio. Yes, 20# line prespooled.

What happened to quality control?
With Zebco reels? Unfortunately all the Zebco manufacturing moved to China around 2000. Here is an interesting article. The higher end reels are still high quality. overall they are just a little bit bigger. With that said, it is a pretty big reel. Perfect for catfish.

Sam Alfakir I would compare my new Zebco 33 authentic to any spinning reel you have. I don’t get line twist like a spinning reel and I can accurately cast. Also, doesn’t birdnest like a casting reel. They haven’t been around all these years cause they’re garbage. You’re just sucking up all the hype from Shimano and brands like that paying $100’s of dollars. My 33 cost me $15; have it now for 3 years and I tournament kayak fish, so it gets used a lot.
I just bought 2 of the larger new 33's and 2 of the new 888. I looked for the (ey303-00) bushings with no luck. The website link nor the business name worked. Your thought?
