My late step father who spent years in China in the 70's and 80's and early 90's - always said - want to know a good Asian restaurant - look how many Asian people are in that restaurant!!! Haha
Great advice! I was so happy that it just so happened. That was the first day they were offering the all you can eat special, and also it was the first day they’re opening an hour early.😁
I had the same thought and frankly when I heard the name of the restaurant, I lowered my expectations because the name sounded very Americanized and “Bistro” makes me start thinking French. Strange name for such an authentic place. Thank you Tim for making us aware of it. I’m about 120 miles away but it just might be worth the trek. Cheers.
@@TimLeeLetsGoGreat video! Was wondering when you went. I know they offered another variation of this that ended last month... Have been hesitant to try since I've heard the quality of food and service have gone down. Thanks for the 411!
Do you go on weekdays? The service was god awful. It was impossible to get a staff member's attention so ordering was a big mess. Just went on Labor Day and I don't need to go back.
Dude, you went on a holiday knowing that it was going to be busy. Yet, you complaining about the wait and service. Then you went on to talk about short-staffing to maximize profits. WOW. Thank you Albert Einstein. If you didn’t say it, no one would’ve known. An all you can eat restaurant at an affordable price made you wait 45 minutes for a table on a busy holiday weekend? How dare they?? Even if they wanted to hire more people, where can they find extra people for just one day? What about the other days where they aren’t as busy? If they overstaff, they will have to increase prices to keep up. And then you would complain about high prices. You people are impossible to please.
So far you have made me very happy with your Dim Sum All You Can Eat for just $25!! At this cost, you can't get mad if you have to pay extra for a specialty sauce, or a drink, or anything you may want that is not included. I absolutely love Dim Sum. Your teaching of the do's and don't's is a virtual blessing. Thanks so much for another tempting and educational video, Tim Lee .. 😊🌿 The Food looked very good. As if deft hands were at work creating this wonderful menu.
Thank you, Mr. Lee!!! That looked so delicious!!! I have fond memories of Dim Sum in Chinatown in Portland, OR; every weekend we were at Fong Chong, enjoying family & food with Bob Louie (Uncle Bob). I miss that so much!!! We no longer have good Dim Sum in the Portland area and it is very sad. Thank you for the wonderful videos so that I can live vicariously through you!!! 💖

@mona2046 Yes it's the wonderful memories and experiences we cherish. Your comment about visiting this restaurant on a regular basis with family really resonated with me. Apparently we had the same childhood. Nowadays, we drive to Richmond for good dim sum. But for the value, LA definitely takes the cake. I'm so tempted to fly Spirit down there for a couple of days just to eat Chinese food.

Couldn't help but chuckle when they gave you a BBQ pork bun for dessert! They know what's good and wanted to leave you impressed, plus you never like things too sweet anyway! 😂😂
They really did a good job with the barbeque bun. The server was tempting me to order some other other signature dishes like their congee and turnip cake but it’s just way too much to finish
Back in the late 90's I used to go to a favorite place on kingsway back when dim sum were $2. Food cost is around 30% for restaurants, so at 25.88, tim has to eat around $90 worth of menu price to make the boss break even just on food costs. Eating 10 items at 8 bucks each, is 80 bucks, so the boss still didnt lose money, but has labor, rent, utilities, insurance costs. 11 items is the break even point, 12+ items is when boss is losing money.
We went with a party of four, they allowed 2 items person. we ordered 2 round of 8 dishes. They were not happy we wanted to order a 3rd round. we only ordered 4 items and only 3 came out. Waited 10 min. and left. The food was average and not worth $25.88 per person. Several dim sum places i know charges around $6.per plate, which is a better value.
@@stevekwong1323 exactly. Other place is 6 bucks, this place with nice renovation bumped it up to 8. That means it probably takes 14 items to break even on food costs. (14x6=84). Food costs for this place is probably under 30%.
A fantastic quantitative analysis! I would never have ordered so much for myself unless filming. I could have done with a few dishes left, but I did mention to them that I would cover any costs for any dishes, not finished. They were kind enough to wrap it back for me.

Hello Tim great job, thank you for sharing😻I’ve been in LA but never been to San Gabriel, I think it’s so hot over there for sure. Watching you eating dim sum so I have to go myself this weekend coming in 2nd Chinatown flushing,New York. Enjoy 😊
Gotta try out this place the next time I go to SoCal. Grew up in SoCal, graduated from San Gabriel high school (class of '87) but moved to the east coast 16 years ago. Still miss my home state, unfortunately where I'm at we don't have good Chinese/Asian food. There are a lot of restaurants (Asian) popping up all the time, but the food is catered to American palate.
Hope you get a chance to try it when you get back. Really impressed with the food there and having it as an all you can eat format was the icing on the cake so to speak
Good job Tim, so jealous wish I was there! Love yum cha, that price is unbelievable. I want those prawn spring rolls that you got first, you can have all the tripe and the chicken jelly salad lol.
The more you kept suggesting avoiding the sticky rice, the more tempting it became. LOL Looked really good! I’d love to go but worry about a language barrier as I speak no Chinese of any dialect.
I think you’ll be OK… they speak English very well and the menus are in many languages also. Would highly recommend the sticky rice if you do get a chance to give it a try
After seeing this video, I made the effort to drive 50 minutes in traffic to eat here with my mom on a Wednesday for lunch. It was only a few tables with diners there at 1:30. We were excited to try at first and got 8 dishes. They also give you a free pot of tea which is a plus. Service was friendly but few of the wait staff can speak English so it was a bit of a struggle. The buffet wasn't extensive. just enough and it lacks some of my favorite dishes at other dim sum places that are very common. The offerings were disappointing in varieties. My mom loves the steam spare ribs but i didn't try it. My favorite was the fried chicken wings (yumm and we ate 4 dishes LOL). And contrary to what Tim says, get the steam rice in lotus leaf! It was moist and very good. The Okinawan brown sugar moist cake was the only dessert we tried and we love it. Other than thes dishes, the rest were very average and not good like the other dim sum places. We ordered the wagyu beef fried noodles but they never brought it out. The har gow was huge but very tough, though the shrimp feelings was good. The other dumplings were below average. Overall, i wouldn't eat here again as the quality was below average. I feel as if you come with one or two diners, you may get -your money;s worth a bit in savings but for a group of 3 diners it's best to go elsewhere as for $80 and tips, you will eat as much or even pay less at other non buffet dim sum places and where the taste and quality is much better. I wouldn't go back.
Mahalo Tim for another great review. We've added this to our list for when we're in LA area. Dim Sum is getting so expensive in the Bay Area, so nice to know you can get good quality in So LA. Happy Travels. If you are ever in the Bay Area, we'd be happy to recommend a few must eat places.
Hi Tim for 11 years I worked for burswood casino they had a dim sum at getting Palace a Chinese restaurant it was so busy sometimes the chef would send down the leftovers to the stores area so yummy is very popular ❤❤❤ hope everyone is well 💕
The quality of the dim sum looks great. The filling is generous unlike a lot of the other places. I agree with Amy, I definitely wouldn’t order the sticky rice and chicken in lotus leaves. If you eat it there will be o room to eat other dishes.
Thanks for another amazing video. Those where some generous portions. It would be nice if they would cater to the single diner with 1 or 2 pieces per order. You realy need to go there with a group of at least 3 to be able to sample more. I have never been to a dim sum. The closest for me is to get steamed or fried dumplings, with a few other offerings of a Chinese appetizer menu. 😊 I consider myself a bit adventurous. But not sure I could handle tripe. But everything else looked so good. Glad you enjoyed your meal.
Yeah, I agree. Having a smaller amount of items would’ve been perfect for the solo or a small group of diners. Really enjoyable there nonetheless but it was very difficult to get enough variety without filling up too much

Thank You 🙏 for sharing ❤
🙏🙂
Good job Tim, so jealous wish I was there! Love yum cha, that price is unbelievable. I want those prawn spring rolls that you got first, you can have all the tripe and the chicken jelly salad lol.
I love your videos!
🙏 thank you so much
The Tim Lee Experience 🎉❤
🙏
Tim❤ thank you for a suprise Thursday video. Hope you are enjoying your California vacation.
Thank you so much and happy to find such amazing places there
The more you kept suggesting avoiding the sticky rice, the more tempting it became. LOL
Looked really good!
Yeah cool new Video and Friday Tim is a pleasure to see you thank you very much 🧐🤩👏👍
Thank you so much and wishing you a happy weekend!
This food looks divine 🤤
The favourite was that sticky rice!
@@TimLeeLetsGo I can definitely see why!
Yummy yummy yum yum - wish I lived near your Tim - I would so eat all of that with you!!
I live in San Gabriel and didn’t know there is an all you can eat dim sum restaurant. Looks pretty nice.
I grew up in SGV. Asian foods are amazing there.
First time visiting there, and it was such a nice place to find all the great food
Looks so good.
😋
Heard about this restaurant from other TH-camr. Will definitely try this place when we are in Los Angeles.
It is incredible and they’re all you can eat. Menu is so expensive. I wish I could have tried many more dishes.
Wow awesome place! Thanks for sharing this 🙏🤗
Thank you so much🙏
Mahalo Tim for another great review. We've added this to our list for when we're in LA area. Dim Sum is getting so expensive in the Bay Area, so nice to know you can get good quality in So LA. Happy Travels. If you are ever in the Bay Area, we'd be happy to recommend a few must eat places.
Oh, I do miss dim sum in the Bay Area! Fond memories there with friends
I really wish I was there too. It all looked so good.
I really wish you were there too! Could have used the help and we could’ve explored more of the dishes
Love beef chow fun! 💕💕
😋
Bonza living the dream 😂😂❤❤😂😂❤❤😂😂❤❤❤
🙂🙏
Hi Tim for 11 years I worked for burswood casino they had a dim sum at getting Palace a Chinese restaurant it was so busy sometimes the chef would send down the leftovers to the stores area so yummy is very popular ❤❤❤ hope everyone is well 💕
That’s quite a treat! When we had a surplus of food when I was working in the restaurant, we would give them to any suppliers who came by
Excited to know they have a sister restaurant in LA
Thanks for the super video and review.
Wait… There’s another restaurant?
Lovely video Tim. Old school Dimsum.
The classic sticky rice😋
Looks awesome. Might be worth the trip from the San Fernando Valley!
Oh, from one valley to the next😁
Thanks ! Next time we’re in L.A. we will definitely go there to eat dim-sum.
Would highly recommend 🙂
Thanks for your prompt reply. But how do you film yourself on the street and when arrive at the restaurant entrance? Thanks😅😅
Just in selfie mode…
Hello Tim, you are so powerful. How can you finish all Dim Sum by yourself😂? Thank you for your sharing.
Oh, I couldn’t finish and they were nice enough to let me take it home 😋
I wanted to see this restaurant because we’re planning on going here on Saturday
Thanks you Tim Good video ❤
Thank you so much for your kind comment!
The quality of the dim sum looks great. The filling is generous unlike a lot of the other places. I agree with Amy, I definitely wouldn’t order the sticky rice and chicken in lotus leaves. If you eat it there will be o room to eat other dishes.
They really did do a great job. And quite a good price if you’re a big eater. The sticky rice was just too tempting to resist.😁
This is a great video
🙏 thank you so so much
Paul Hollywood would be proud!
😁
Those are some of the largest sui mai that I've seen. With the filling being so dense; it's quite a deal:)
I’m really impressed with the quality of the dim sum chef there. Would highly recommend if you’re in the area.
I consider myself a bit adventurous.
