Jeremy: is lost
Richard: has lost his car
James: is driving on top of a wall
Top tier motor journalism
Top tier indeed, hence why they call it Top Gear
Rogeh

This is great 😂😂😂😂😂
The reason i wanted them back on
This is what we loved about top gear
James: "It's got aircon"
Jeremy: "It's an optional extra!"
James: "It's an option that's been selected."
That's how you win an argument properly.
And that is why the May is more evolved than the Top Gear/Grand Tour orangutan.
It means that the car isn't as cheap as he's asserting
@@Septimus_ii I guarantee that the addition of aircon didn't cost £7000, so James' point still stands.
Really, once an option has been selected, it's no longer an option. Aircon is officially standard.
He still bought a trash car though
Hammond: "It's got 158 BHP in there!"
Clarkson: "WOOOOOOWWWW..."
That's still nearly three times my car, in a freaking FIAT
@@AMpr0d Same here- 60bhp from a 2004 1.2 Punto. The car only weighs 830kg though, so 60bhp is plenty.
AMPed101 Yea but it’s GREAT. Even Jeremy himself described it as a “pocket size Ferrari”
@@bluwusky5167 70 bhp in my mk1 Ford Ka at about 900kg. Very fun to drive
It was like they said that in the clip.
It's funny because I'm from Lucca, and when Jeremy was driving through that restaurant, he could have simply do a U turn and find the way out.
+Handsome Devil been in Lucca, was not that hard actually...
+Uncle Alcohol It's made for entertainment tho ;)
i'm a bit off topic, but would you recommend visiting Lucca in combination with Pisa as a city trip? or is it a dull place?
verzekeringsadviseur it's nice, visited in April.
I have a feeling that’s what he ended up doing
Had to laugh when Jezza said May turned up in a drivers instructors car. I learned to drive in a Citroen DS3.
Neil Pickles Lol
In Poland we have Toyotas Yaris as them
I learned to drive in a Renault Clio 2008 so I agreed with Jeremy :)
So did I 😂
And I 😂
"What this actually means in Italian is 'bell end.'"
The banter between these 3 is always perfect.
Josh Follmann why would you drive a french car in an italian town? everyone hates them, and
Care to elaborate? I didn't get that reference
Phillip L. , people who put personalised number plates on their cars are usually called "bell-ends" (arrogant twats).
Geri J. Shit that actually explains a lot hahahaha thank you
@@gerijokub7737 "Bellend" literally means the tip of the penis.
4:41 "No, it's not gonna fit. Sorry" *ladies evacuate*
Oh James. You stud, you.
Aard hfgggggggggg
Aard lol
Aard lol missed that
Aard *That's what she said*
Why did u buy a kia
peel p50 would be perfect in that city.
The Jeremy P45 would be even better
German Babaskerov He certainly got his P45
+German Babaskerov no for regular motorists in that city the peel p50 which is in production is better in that city. Jeremys p45 is not in production. but yes if the p45 was in production yes it would be better in that city
The p45 would be better is smaller and for 500 pounds you can upgrade from the base l model and get satnav
Chris Cooper yep.
I do agree that Jeremy's Citroen looks like an off-brand kids sneaker
it does.. but it is quite cool. I bought one 6 monts ago. Fun to drive and without the orange outside. All Black. I love it.
Trainer
@@michaelsemeswin8878 does it say DS3 in huge letters on the dash and CAUTION on the fuel cap tho?
@@musstta01 no, the orange parts are all black and no letters
Still looks the best out of the 3
I love how at 5:48 when we see James return to the start, in the background you can see Jeremy and Richards cars, we love a bit of TV trickery.
Are you suggesting they edited these clips to make James look even more useless? Nice!
Wow. Hammond drives the smallest car, captain slow drives the boring car. And the orangutan drives the orangutaneous car
+ihaspizza13 it is boring
What about a tesla model x.
***** Ok I guess. I do prefer Porsches more.
+Totally Winning Pro Gamer Meanwhile I like the Hudsons. aka the old I6 engined cars from 1910's to 1950's America. Merged with Nash to make AMC. I plan on bringing back Hudson.
MrDalek2150 Alright, nice.
i love how they always try to convince hammond that he has bought the wrong car
+steevanator otto Well, it's a convertible, not a hatchback so he did bring the wrong model, not wrong car.
Also it's one of the running jokes about each of them, these things are scripted you know.
Toro Italiano he sorta did this time: it’s not a hatchback and it’s the slowest and less practical one.
@@dufonrafal no, It is the most practical one since its the smallest one and those streets are awfully small, The ds was struggling same as the clio
Thats Cause the 500 is not a hatchback, when it was made around 1950 it was almost as small as the Peel p50 and was classified as a town car, cause it had an air cooled 2 cylinder that only did 40 mph at best, James may reviewed said car its on youtube
@@GuninGames The 50s 500 has nothing to do with this
I was in Florence some weeks ago and basically went to Lucca because of this episode. It's a beautiful city nonetheless
i ate on this plaza and walked on the wall where may drove, was there with a passat - what a nightmare to roam around, ended up parking on the edge of the city
Same here . Went by train though :)
There in 2018 beautiful place loved it 😍
If I was vacationing somewhere and found out that Top Gear had been to an area nearby I would do the same thing and check it out myself
Did u get out of the town ok?
Fun fact: the square where they are (which you can also see at 3:45) has this weird shape, because it used to be a Roman Amphitheater. The houses were built in the middle ages on the cavea and the external walls.
I love how these cars perfectly define their drivers. There’s Clarkson, with the exciting and rediculous car, Hammond with the small and stylish car, and May with the sensible (and a little boring) car
1:39 I can't get over how Hammond's car has a fanfare and then after he gets out and instroduces it, it has a smaller fanfare. I laugh hysterically every time.
Da notare a 6:45 il lucchese che dice "Si lavora anche noi" in quanto quel giorno per le riprese bloccarono tutto il traffico interno alla città
ahahah
Nella versione italiana è stato tradotto con un "ehi ti riconosco"
Ah only i know i understand why he said that lol thanks for clarifying. We think same from the South
@@lorenzomijorus that's ridiculous that they would change what the guy said, "we work too" makes sense and isn't that crazy and plays into making it look like they were weirded out by Hammond
Lmao
"Clio Cup" is Italian for "Bell End". I lost it there.
@Boner Jamz you just replied to a 6 year-old comment. The guy probably has a family now
@Boner Jamz lmfao
Personalized number plates are by far and away the biggest sign of a bell end
James: "Not my words! Not my words! The words of Autocar Magazine."
Jeremy: "Autocar? The Magazine that sacked you?"
James: "Yes!"
This is familiar. Hmm...
Ethan Ansell *publishes the magazine then gets sacked*
Ethan Ansell it’s funny because it’s literally the most James May thing, even this many years later
"But its not a hatchback, its like turning up to do the Grand National on a cow" 😂😂
My opinion completely changed on these cars when I ended up buying a Clio for myself and it’s been extremely fun to drive
“It’s got 158hp in it”
“WAAOOOOW”
I wanna see a Ford F-650 going thru these streets.
fabriziorocca I wanna see a Baja truck fit.
fabriziorocca won’t be worth seeing because it wouldn’t get far
Only with that ya know like bulldozer like thing they have upfront
Marauder
panzer 8 maus
6:45 "Si lavora anche noi"
AHAHAHAH muoio
And I thought my city had small streets. Holy cow!
what city are you from?
I actually live in a town outside of it, but the city is Reykjavík.
+TraustiGeir Iceland! I am so jealous, always wanted to go to Iceland.
Scott Sherman Cheers, friend! I hope you'll get the chance someday. ;)
TraustiGeir you're icelandic? Cool. I'd love to know about that country.
For starters... why did stripp clubs become ilegal? I mean I think feminism is a good thing, but this isn't feminist, it's just ridiculous. People should just be allowed to choose whether or not to participate in such activities, and let the market decide if they should exist or not. Not make it blanket ilegal... Isn' Iceland a liberal country? In places like the netherlands, germany and switzerland, places with a lot of stuff in common with iceland they made even prostitution legal. why is iceland the opposite?
1:04 the magazine that sacked you
Yes
A beautiful town.
3:10 "it's like turning up to do the Grand National on a cow or a hen"😂😂😂
I wonder what car the camera men used this time.
+A Franca My guess is a motorbike.
A Peel P50 lol
Lololol
A Franca Or better yet, Jeremy's P45 haha
I guess their legs
I found Jeremy saying ‘it’s like turning up to do the grand national on a cow’ way funnier than I should have 😂
I'm always laughing loud at that moment 😆
“The magazine that sacked you?”
“Yes.”
😂
Clarkson on AC: "It's an optional extra!"
May: "It's an option that's been selected"
“It’s got 150 break horse power”
“WAAAAAAAOWWWW”
Gets me every time.
Car guys in the 1950s and 60s in a nutshell
"This would look good on the deck of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier"
Yeah.
Hooked to the catapult, about to be launched overboard like that Jag.
WOOOWWWWW 1:57
5:51 We can literally see the Fiat Abarth and DS3 in the background lol
Cant be unseen now
lol good spot.
they obviously just didn’t have footage of him going back into the center
The best thing they didn't mention: this square used to be roman Amphitheatre. They started competition as real gladiators!
The way Jeremy said "wooooowwww" when Hammond explained the amount of bph the Fiat has 😂😂
2:24
James: Y’know what this is?
Jeremy: What?
James: Juvenile
Jeremy: JUVENILE! JUVENILE!
Seeing them trying to get out of that town makes you wonder how they got in
Ahahahah I'm from Lucca, well, that's why half of the historical center is close to the car traffic!!!
I can imagine myself driving my small car in Lucca with confidence! You have a lovely home :-)
Beautiful and historic place but the graffiti I noticed on the walls are an eyesore! I dispise vandals!
@@Jamarkus_Delvonte you want graffiti, go to Naples!
Richard Hammer you replied to a 5-year-old comment and didn’t even understand what he said. lmao
@@richardhammer187 they'll steal your car
"since when did the Renault clio became a huge car with an enormous turning circle" HAHAHA
5:50 - what's Hammond's Fiat doing back in "the square where they started"?
also Jeremy's Citroën.. wtf TG..
ya wtf
They sometimes mix films from different times.
When James went back AGAIN to the square they started, there probably wasn't a camera crew filming him from the outside re-entering the square.
So they decided to use old footage where he first entered the square and mix it with the footage from inside his car when he genuinely went back into the square again.
You can tell its footages from two different times because from the camera behind the car at 5:50, you can see a lot of people sitting at the cafe at the right, the scene right afterwards where he is in car, there is no one in the cafe at his right.
it means it's scripted.. that makes it boring and i'm not even sure how to look at the next stuff they do..
Top Gear races are half scripted half real.
Hammond, Clarkson and May, like their other races, did actually do this race as well.
The way the race is presented to us is slightly scripted (reusing older footage, adding scripted gags inbetween and what not.). If they presented the race the way is actually was, it would be must less entertaining.
Pretty cool number plate for Mays Clio Cup.
'It isn't a hatchback'
Hammond:......
'Its like turning up to do the grand national on a cow'
XD
3:26 "uRbAn eNvIrOnMeNt" 😂
I love Jeremy's choice of car.
no i like hammonds choice hammonds car is better than jeremys car
James's car is the best
I'm legit surprised he didn't show up in the latest Ford Focus ST
@@zalaluddinsarkar7900 nah, jeremy wins this one
@@GewelReal defo not
5:04 Good compared to having a bag on your head, or being blind, or driving a Lamborghini Countache.
@Meyaka Brown fam have you ever seen out the back of one of those things hah.
I'd still prefer to drive it.
Even tho I had a crappy day, my car broke down, bad luck all day. And still Top Gear puts an smile on my face. Thank you for that =)
I owned a DS3 Racing for about 18 months. Absolutely loved the thing! Then one night it went all French on me and the electric steering failed mid-corner. Wrote the car off and bought an Abarth 595 Comp. 180bhp in a car that small is absolutely bonkers. Feels faster than the DS3... and that felt ballistic!!
I always wondered though how they got to the plaza in the first place if they didn't know the way out...
***** The show is scripted.....
***** neat idea, that's most likely how they did it except the blindfolds since they were complaining about the one-ways at the start
*****
ok ok that makes sense too
The roads they took are one-way. They probably knew how to get to the plaza, but going back would be different since they couldnt take the same roads.
Driving instructors car
Yep he’s right, learnt to drive in a clio
Jubair Ahmed Not a RS tho
The song after 5:20 is Elbow - High Ideals, for anyone wondering...
I've been searching for YEARS omg thank you
@@misterthatguyjake The comment is 5 years older than yours.
"This must be James's idea of hell." Died.
2:09 Got to love Hammond :D
I would love to see someone try this in a Chevy Suburban.
roguedogx Or a Humvee
Hamir Thapar EVEN BETTER!
Hamir Thapar just look at footage from iraq. Same thing.
Or an SLS.
TheRedstoneVillager too easy, all you have to do is spin the tires and the car will turn in its own radius.
“It’s an option that’s been selected” I DIED
LOL! "Its like turning up for the Grand National on a cow!"
Jeremy noticed James’ license plate surprisingly fast considering what he drove in Argentina
0:40 "Driving Instructor's Car" 😂
5:37 driving through some body restaurent ...
3 British guys talking shit on each others cars...THIS IS WHY I CAME HERE!
0:26 those guys just coming to take a photo
my favorite Top Gear episode, if I'm honest. The setting is incredible, and the bits and banter are hilarious. ;D
4:24 perfect description of the Italian P26/40 during WW2: Also, in any other army, the P26/40 would be considered quite small. But in the Italian Army, they were huge.
5:51 they gave James a quiet bit of a lead there
Lucca is a very little town and most part of it is a pedestrian area. The area accessible by car is very limited and it's impossible to get lost (unless you need to fake it to make your tv show cooler), so no matter if you're a local or a tourist, you just have to follow the traffic sign, the way is almost forced, and you'll be outside the city walls in a few minutes. :)
1:35
Hammond's beatific smile 😂
This is where the mini, issta , smart , peel P 50 and the Peel P 45 comes in to play
1:58 that "Woow" made me laugh
God that city is beautiful, what a vibe
Wow! I was in Lucca in 2006! What a beautiful city
500 Abarth looks awesome, i'd go for it
It's an option that's been selected!
I've been to Lucca. A beautiful little city, but truly hell to navigate through. There's a reason everyone is either on foot, on bikes or on scooters there.
Even on foot I found a GPS essential
Jeremy called the abarth 500 a 'mini Lamborghini'
Daniel Scott his always shiting on the cars the others couse... eaven if he likes the car.
@@AirWolf2301 Yeah you can tell throughout the rest of this episode that he doesn't really like his Citroen anyway. He'd totally have the Fiat if he had to choose.
The best part about this is that those blue signs were not "must turn right/left" signs
3:33 me: lough in italian
I always wondered how you can go from one part of the town to another, but god those cities are small ! Excellent video by the way
So Lucca is basically like the backrooms for cars.
6:45 he says: "we're working too" lol
The Citroen DS3 Racing I would buy in a heartbeat . I love the paint scheme: black and orange, such a badass racing paint job. And also I love me a Citroen! Hats off to Citroen, you just got a American customer!
It's like turning up to do the grand national on a cow... or a hen!
Thats the best line!
looks like a scene from 6 Underground
Here after watching The Grand Tour episode where they head into Europe... Was way too Americanised... Truth be told I'm missing the old Top Gear.
WeMuckAround that's because they don't gotta worry about bbc screwing with the show
Who doesn’t
Amazon gave Andy William and everyone else full autonomy.
Amazon just told them to do what they do best
They get better in the later seasons.
this is why Fiat made small cars like the 126 and the old 500 and more to fit the small italian roads
The Citroën still looks good 11 years later.
Every GTA player is a gangsta until they have to drive out of Lucca
Recently been to Lucca, it was fun to see this. We had a similar experience with a bike and all the one way streets :D.
Also, Hammond brought the perfect car. But for a hatchback challenge he should have brought the hatchback of course...
Jezza: "Where's your air-con? Cruise control? Sat nav? You haven't got anything!"
Mr. Slowly: "It's got air-con."
Jezza: "It's an optional extra!"
Mr. Slowly: "It's an option that's been selected."
I've been to Lucca once, and it took me 10 minutes to get out of it. And i had a sat-nav.
BTW nice town
5:51, they just filmed May driving into the square before they left. As you can see in the background the DS3 and the 500 Abarth are still parked there.
Oh my god that town is awesome!
+NameNotAlreadyTaken2 It really is. You should go and visit it ;)
That's a beautiful town.
„How hard can it be?“ best sentence to describe the situation Clarcson 😂
This show was so amazing
Hammonds car is the best .

Joshua when you take a Ferrari for a repair, they give you Fiat to drive around while your car is being fixed. you think that's a girls car?
misutatomasu yes
or if you're a man who isn't full of insecurities about his sexuality.
Wtf is going on with all these insecured boys saying that a car determines your sexuality
Even as a pedestrian, Lucca is a nightmare to navigate D:
2:41 well yeas bit actually no
Jeremy: "Did you get a hatchback?"
Richard: "Well yes, but actually no."
