    I think it would be funny and cool if Volvidon was given some sort of pinball mechanic, where he could use walls to bounce off of to create a rolling attack combo. He could be allowed to incorporate his stink into other attacks, e.g. the big jump up and slam down one. Definitely also think he should be able to do more with his paralysis spit.

    • @HeavyWings
      @HeavyWings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      That would be cool but you'd definitely have to design a unique area for him - like what World and Tri did for a lot of their monsters.

      @@HeavyWings Agreed. I really loved those unique areas in both games, so I guess that explains my idea.
      Basically like Uragaan but instead of rolling with momentum he'd do instant direction changes like a pinball off of walls

      I feel that as he uses paralysis which is in his spit he could add paralysis to his tongue moves like the grab or maybe coating its claws with said spit enabling his claw attacks to paralyze the hunters with the coating lasting a certain period of time.

    I'm not even a fan boy and i can easily answer the why he had so little change : IT'S BECAUSE HE'S A GOOD MONSTER ! Good monster does not necessarily need to change. I mean i first encountered him in 3U and he was already, despite the lacks of new moves, a good-looking monster and a very fun fight for a beggining monster. Even tho i wouldn't mind new moves

    Idea: Dynamo Volvidon. Using the ball rolls as a primary focus, this Volvidon generates energy by rolling, perhaps thunder element on it's attacks to signify this. If you don't interrupt it's rolls it'll keep building charges and growing faster and more powerful. At max charge, Volvidon will do a homing roll attack at high speed that drains it's charges and deals massive damage, ending in a Tokyo Drift style spinout to potentially catch you if you dodge the wrong way. Some drifting and turning spins during the regular fight might also give him needed horizontal coverage and make him less linear.

    • @TornaitSuperBird
      @TornaitSuperBird 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Give it Sonic's homing attack, but with a bit of a windup beforehand?
      That'd sound dope along with your idea.

    Poor Volvidon he wasn't even in Stories 2 either

      It's weird how many monsters weren't in Stories 2. Gore Magala, Valstrax, Odogaron etc.

    Some idea for Volvidon new paterns :
    - a grab attack where he catch the hunter before YEET him and crushing him with a huge attack
    - a attack where he lead a paralysis ball while jumping into the air, similar to Rajang
    - some variant of its paralysis attack, like double or triple projectile ! Why not even gave it a two time attack, like lauching a paralysis ball who stay some time in the floor and make a small explosion !
    - just gave it more combo, like lauching a projectile just after a roll or a roll after some slaps.
    I know they would be better for a deviant-like Volvidon, but if they made one sometime why not after all

    One thing that I do like about Volvidon is that it teaches new hunters positioning, in the same way as Nargacuga does. Since it's constantly moving, Volvi teaches you to move the camera/use targeting to keep up or else you get punished with a paralysis, or a heavy hit. If I was to make a change to Volvi/make a variation, lean into the slams and do something like what Grimclaw Tigrex does but with Volvi's tremor slams.

  • @WarioJim
    @WarioJim 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    As always with this series, you do a good job! I'm happy it exsits because I've found it oddly difficult finding comprehinsive sources on the movesets of monsters.
    However, there were some errors I'd like to point out:
    1. Volvidon's mini jumps from side to side is actually something he can do at EVERY rank, with perhaps changes in frequency.
    2. There's actually another attack he gains in GU (and 3U I'm told) G-Rank, where he'll do a hop into a roll that aims/turns/homes in directly at you, which is absent in Rise and Sunbreak.
    I think he's a fairly fun and versatile monster (which is something I'm loving many 3rd gen monsters for) with his rolling, jumping, tounge, paralysis and stench, so I've taken quite a liking to him.
    That said, I agree that he's been neglected, especially compared to his fellow Fanged Beasts, of whom he's often positioned as the hardest of the trio. One of my bigger dissapointments with Sunbreak was seeing how he wasn't given his old G-Rank moves at the least, while Royal Ludroth was given more notable attention in base Rise even. I hope they eventually add to the same moveset he's always had in someway or at least given him a deviant too.

  • @JoeBaidan-hx2qy
    @JoeBaidan-hx2qy ปีที่แล้ว

    This is my idea for a new subspecies.
    Ninja Volvidon: A smaller, brown Volvidon with a spiked carapace. It lives in a dark swamp-like environment with a lot of bugs (or another monster graveyard like the rotten veil). In response to faster bugs, it’s evolved a much longer, thinner tongue that it uses more often. It frequently uses this tongue as a whip and can do a lot of crazy attacks with its precise control over its tongue like grabbing people out of the air, throwing you, launching you and doing a rapid slash combo when you’re in the air, and rapid slashing an area to deal damage without knocking you down. This volvidon has lost the ability to produce paralyzing saliva, but it has gone all in on its stench ability. It can expel stinky beams and explosions from its mouth, do stinky rolls, and make rapid stink explosions. Its stink attacks leave behind residual brown clouds that can apply stink and do damage, forcing you to pay careful attention to positioning. Its spikes allow it far greater control when rolling, and its small size means that it’s faster. It performs short rolls towards the player and quickly changes directions, and can even roll towards you then cancel into a different attack like an explosion, air slam, or tongue attack to catch you off guard. It will frequently hop around, preferring this to small rolls, and will even hop into the air before crashing down while rolled up. It can even do a stink explosion in the air to create a ton of brown clouds all over the arena, and it has an enraged attack where it does a huge explosion that covers everything in a giant stink cloud. It’s a very aggressive monster, so don’t worry about chasing it down. In its new habitat, it’s become a sort of farmer. It hunts down other monsters, kills them, and then covers them in stench to attract lots of bugs. It utilizes this strategy and it’s super precise tongue to catch a ton of bugs, capitalizing on the fast rates of decay and all the bugs in the area to get a ton of food. It’s stench is partially incorporated from its environment. The spikes allow for control of rolling and hood damage, but also traction. It’s weapons are purely physical, and it’s armor has skills that focus on movement and negatively affecting the monster.

    I think a cool Volvidon subspecies or variant idea could be one that is more heavily armoured than its normal counterpart or somehow sticks things it finds on to its body increase its defence sort of like Radobaan but more adaptable.
    It spends more time on all fours making opportunities that give you access to its stomach more valuable since it could be the most vulnerable there.
    It could then have more varied attacks with tongue, for example it could have a move that when it turns while rolling it can do an almost 360 tongue swipe. And it could maybe have a mechanic similar to Congalala in that depending what Neoptereon it eats it gets a different status.
    Vespoid: paralysis
    Hornetaur: a one time bleed attack using their heads as weapons stuck to its tongue.
    Altaroth: defence down
    Banhabra: element down.
    Potentially if something like the elemental beetles return in future games or just Cluster and Bomb beetles from World it could eat them too to gain a temporary breath attack.
    Cluster Beetles: instant stun
    Bomb Beetles: blast blight
    Element Beetles with their respective element.

    Favorite Volvidon (so far, I haven't fought volvidon in every game he appeared yet) has to be Rise Volvidon for a very silly reason: it's one of the easiest matchup for LBG because mines absolutely ruins him in his movement. I was crying laughing when it occured to me, and it him memorable for at least one thing. Other than that, I think he suffers from the Blangonga syndrome, being that other members of his group gets way more spotlight and so it's not a priority for the dev team to work on him, as no one will care as much about him than other monsters.

  • @therealHLY
    @therealHLY 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think part of the reason volvidon hasn't changed much is that he serves his purpose well. he's a good intro monster for hotter regions, he teaches about striking certain areas and he has some fun and pretty unique stuff. while I can see an argument for giving him some more stuff at higher ranks, I don't realy think the basic one needs to change. the silly ball monster was kind of a hole in one on debut, though I could admit to some biass as I love the Arzorious trio in general
    as for changes that could be made, giving G rank versions some kind of ability to bounce of things while rolling to do somewhat inpredictable pinball strikes could be fun and keep that goofy energy he has. a variant focused on something other than stink/poison could be neat for that, like a swamp version that has sticky mucis and leaves slime trails, or something shifting to a bit like a pangolin, with spikier shell and more focus on blocking with it and countering, even doing bleed and being able to sling spiked plates as it rolls/spins

  • @Elephant-Fresh
    @Elephant-Fresh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    A cool idea personally i think for a subspecies or variant would be sticky volvidon. He would always be in a ball and seep sticky liquid the liquid would trap you there like the mud and add the stink blight. You would need to force him open to attack maybe he could stick to walls and lash out his tounge from afar or spew liquid. Another idea is he could have slime like brachydios and use the slime to propel himself in a ball with the slime explosions and bounce around like a pin ball.

    Imagine if we get something like Raging Brachy but for Volvidon, just for the lulz. Maybe a Volvidon that adapted into eating quartz in Lava Cavern, which results in massive crystal growths on it's back. These crystals can emits thunder attacks that mostly used to stun preys, like Rhenoplos. It can also shoot said crystals, plant it on the ground and then used it as some kind of 'thunder-mine'

  • @robthoelz
    @robthoelz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Volvidon should get two things.
    1: A high stun attack with his tongue. Let him use it like a whip, building up a little momentum until it snaps at the player, stunning them and doing moderate damage.
    2: A pin attack he can do out of a roll. Think of Volvidon rolling at you, then immediately jumping out of the roll and pinning like Arzuros. Maybe his pin can inflict stink as well.

  • @shindoushuichi0287

    I think he definitely needs a variant. Like maybe he got kicked around too much by everyone like he is in RiseBreak and something just snaps and he gets a dragon element boost. Or maybe a subspecies that has him swap out the paralysis blob for defense down or a frontier mechanic that saps weapon sharpness.

    Its not silencing , its tactical muting :)
    Anyway , volvidon is one of those case where being introduced in volcanoes and thus is "endgame" is working against it in ts progression since its moveset is basically easier to understand and work against than lagombi imo

  • @bluebombs4u921
    @bluebombs4u921 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I used to see Arzuros, Lagombi, and Volvidon as a sort of sub species increase in 3 ultimate.
    Arzuros as a base, Lagombi introducing newer movements and temperature changes, and Volvidon being in a more dangerous environment and being more agile than Lagombi.
    In Generations, seeing him not get a deviant felt like a slap in the face.
    So let's make one:
    Flame Spike Volvidon
    Lore: A Volvidon who had gone through a mutation after countless hunts and surviving, the scars left on it's armor now release the gas it builds up inside whenever it wants to (it can reopen the scars, no becoming exhaust ports like Magnamalo's own exhaust ports), which makes it feel lighter. When rolling, the friction causes the gas to ignite and create a barrier of flames to protect it and scorch those who approach it. Lastly, it will become more reckless as the hunt goes on due to the gas it releases, acting as a numbing agent.
    The differences between it and regular Volvidon are as follows:
    *Flame Spike moves a lot more quickly and can home in much more accurately
    *The gas that seeps out helps maneuver and change trajectory. It even allows Flame Spike to super charge a quick roll attack if at a distance.
    *All roll attacks cause the stench blight, since it's using the gas as a tool more frequently and to better use (so no more random stink in place attack)
    *When it becomes enraged (Flared Up), it will quickly roll around the hunter, releasing it's gas, and will make and abrasive stop to ignite the flames.
    *When it is Flared Up, it now will cause fire blight with roll attacks and cause a Teostra like effect when you get near it's back (drain health from excessive heat). Also it's Paralysis glob attack will now stay where it's at, slowly counting down to explode (akin to Brachydios and Hellblade Glavenus), since Flame Spike is adding the gas into the mixture.
    *It's tongue also induces paralysis, but only after a glob attack and it can only use it up to 3 times.
    *When the hunter is paralyzed, Flame Spike will then begin it's ultimate attack, super charging the gas, and then Cannonball itself on you, causing a devastating explosion by releasing the gas at the moment of impact to ignite. Not only does it do damage to the hunter, but will also damage Flame Spike since it would have had enough time to inhale it's own gas and not realize the pain it caused itself.
    *A neat feature is that it's back is already broken in terms of design, but can be broken even further, also causing Flame Spike to lose control when rolling since some of the scar exhaust ports having been damaged. Also, when Flared Up, you can break the Flaming Spikes by attacking it with water element weapons or using a mud beetle to douse the flames.
    *Lastly, with it being a lot more offensive than Volvidon, it's body isn't as tough as base Volvidon, always needing green sharpness or anything would bounce off. With Flame Spike, you can go as low as Yellow Sharpness.
    Overall, this is just me fantasizing a monster that may never be (and probably good thing because I don't know if I made it over powered or not)

Curl into a ball, spin in place a few times with a nice sound effect, then he charges forward and ricochets off whatever he hits a few times, depending on his current momentum. A question
    Was the armor thing just not well received or didn't feel it was worth the effort?
    Also I think Volvidon can't be changed much tbh, aside from outright giving him a new version in some manner, tbh actually a more thunder influenced one would be interesting, attacks having Sparks with them and lightning strike effects with the bouncing, maybe even spits out bubble like things along side the globs that will either paralyze you or deal thunder damage
    As for monsters, I have no preference as I am learning stuff I didn't know cause I started with Rise

    • @HeavyWings
      @HeavyWings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In regards to the armour thing: tldr it was hard to prepare for, not interesting to write, edit or watch, destroyed the pacing of the videos and I'll either do a separate series or drop the idea fully.
      It was something that was really highly requested by a lot of people, so when I took a break after the Fatalis video I thought about what it would take, and how it could be done. In this case, Armour Evolution would be describing the different sets monsters got over the years and how their purpose changed.
      So in the Arzuros and Hermitaur videos it was present. There was one small problem - I found it really boring to watch. Like I'm kind of just talking, and the armour is onscreen, and it just wasn't interesting. It also increased the video length. In some ways this was good, more ad revenue. But consider this; the Teostra video was 13 minutes long and discussed both he and Lunastra. The Diablos video was 13 minutes long and discussed him, Monoblos, their subspecies, Bloodbath and Apexes. They were both interesting. The Daimyo Hermitaur video though was 14 minutes, and that's because of the armour segment - something I did not think was particularly interesting to watch. It was longer than the other videos but so much less interesting, like the pacing of the video just grinds to a complete halt. Consider how the Brachydios video is 9 minutes long (I think). With Armour Evolution it would probably have been 15 minutes.
      So then with the Barioth video I tried rethinking it. What if instead of listing skills, I instead focus more on describing the armour itself and how the design changed. That ended up being more interesting. But this exposed another problem.
      When I started the series, I prepared by completing 3 Ultimate and Freedom Unite, so I had complete save files for every major game. When I want to cover a monster, I look at where they appeared, go fight them in their games and get the footage I need, as well as watch footage online to see if I missed anything. It's fun but sometimes time consuming when I need a specific attack that a monster won't use (this also can lead to mistakes like me assuming Barioth doesn't jump on walls in Rise/GU)
      In regards to AE, I find out what sets they have, make them (or cheat them in), then record them spinning. It's really boring. There's also difficulties showing each gender's armour. With MH3U I can use a save editor to change my characters gender. With FU I have a male character and 4U I have a female, so I can show each gender's set like that. But for other games like Generations it's difficult. With World and Rise it costs money. Showing all the hyper sets is difficult too and not something I was able to do.
      So the issues boil down to this
      - Time consuming to make
      - Boring to make
      - Boring to watch
      - Hard to accurately prepare for
      So I felt it best to cut entirely. Sorry for the wall of text.

    Uhh, Volvidon also does those roll jumps in Portable 3rd. I saw him doing that in my high rank fight.

  • @kurjao
    @kurjao 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Almost every attack volvidon does leaves him open for free damage with no risk, or can allow you to do that special knock down. If he wasn’t an early game monster I’d say to only let him get knocked back during a certain move rather than all of his roll attacks

    If Capcom needs some ideas for Volvidon they should look to Hammond from Overwatch and his move where he anchors to something with a rope and swings wildly in like a wrecking ball. Imagine a wrecking ball that farts, scared yet?

    Why this and brachydios doesn't have armor evolution?? For me its not complete without it since it makes this monster evolution more informative. (in my opinion, every monster evolution should have that and a weapons evolution in which u can create using that specific monster's items).

      I think very few monsters from Tri onwards are in. Off the top of my head
      - Barioth
      - Deviljho
      - Brachydios
      - Zinogre
      - Gore Magala
      - Shagaru Magala
      - Seregios
      I can't think of any others.

  • @Stroggoii

    I think it's just simply fun as it is. Some of the changes made to other 3☆ monsters make them annoying rather than interesting, as is the case with Great Wroggi's poison cloud to hip check combo. If it was a rare move it does sometimes to catch you off guard it'd be great. But because it's newer tech to show off and it's move set is small already, GW will just spam it over and over and over again...
    Volvidon can get away with making a small move set fun because most of it's moves work at different ranges, it's movement is an attack in itself, and it keeps you on your toes with different attack sequences instead of just repeating it's newest move ad nauseam.

    I hate that his "fart" attack is literally a fart. Animals can use smell as a deterrent in other ways. It just makes it seem like they don't want you to take him seriously at all.

  • @lucyspira7346

    while I think there’s definitely some recent monsters worth exploring, I think it’d be interesting to finish covering the gen 1 monsters and their variations since they’ve been around even longer! plesioth, khezu/gigginox, kirin, and basarios/gravios would all make for good subjects.

  • @evodolka

    . make him fart more, like maybe when he rolls he farts to cloak himself and hit you with stench if hit
    . make his tongue attacks do paralysis
    these changes should be MR only though
