Well, considering the engine NA can support a certain amount of air, and the supercharger's size (and spin speed) contributes to how much air gets in, it makes a little more sense than you'd think. The static displacement of the engine, ie, how much air fits in it when nothing is moving, is basically the cylinders + the supercharger.
It makes me so happy that The Stig we all loved finally has a stage and platform to speak for himself. The fact that he still has contact with the Trio is heart warming. It’s so nice seeing Ben driving and talking.
@Mike if you watch all of the older episodes you would be amazed at how much Ben was featured in some of them. I don’t remember out of the top of my head but I know he’s in there for quite a few.
The story I remembered hearing about Ben leaving was he felt the Stig should have stayed anonymous, and was thus upset by the face reveal Schumacher did, so he left after that and revealed to the world he was the Stig and wrote the book about being it. Top Gear went through several drivers playing the Stig after that. So it’s interesting to hear Ben telling otherwise, that he already planned on leaving before that and was happy about the face reveal, so that leads me to wonder where that original story came from or how it originated.

Ben won against the BBC in court just in case anyone was wondering, i can understand why Ben did it as the press at the time knew it was him and it was only a matter of time the previous stig perry was unmasked by the press and he was sacked, Ben wanted to end it on his terms and he did! Lovely down to earth, man can't wait to see more of him! Why don't you do Ben meets Perry ie stig meets stig that would be a good sit down to hear their stories 😊
I really wish Mike asked if ( if ) Ben stayed on at top gear up until the Jeremy incident. Would he have followed the boys like Richard and James did to Amazon.

I've got to say I think there was a bit of foul play on Topgear with the VXR, I've had two Vectra VXR's and never had any problems with understeer and I've thrown them round corners my current one I've had since 2017, the only time it did was in the wet. Also I must say the car doesn't let that amount of wheel spin in the video even with the ESP switched off, the only way to get it to do that is to pull the fuse for the ABS module. So I'm not convinced that it was a fair review. If you look at other reviews done by other car journalists yes its not a M3 or the likes but it does hold its own.
It's funny, i have 4 cars, (997 c2s, Z4 3.0i, a Peugeot 406 coupe 3l v6 and the doggy car, a Vauxhall Vectra C Estate...) and the Peugeot is not only the most reliable and by far, but it's totally gorgeous to look at and has a fantastic chassis. Ok it's slightly modified (other than nicer and bigger wheels, the exterior is untouched), i upgraded the suspension set up (springs and shocks) brakes, exhaust, air induction... It really is a joy to drive... Now, regarding the Vectra Estate, i can't say it's a dangerous car to be honest, simply because it's not a car i use for hard driving... It's a workhorse, that's all... So no spirited driving, hence no driving on the limits, so can't feel any steering issues. If i want something more engaging, I drive the 911 or the little go kart (Z4)...
Schumacher had to refuse to do the reasonably priced car challenge. At the time of filming he was still in a contract with Ferrari and was forbidden to drive any car except ones from the FIAT group in public appearances.

I didn't know who Ben Collins was until now because I've tried to avoid finding out who the Stig was. I know who Andy Wilman is and was very happy when I heard he was leaving Top Gear for The Grand Tour. But I wish I didn't know who Ben Collins was. I prefer the identity of the Stig being a mystery to me.
Genuinely interesting listen. Thanks both.
Love these behind the scenes stories!
SPOILER: The stuff that apparently didn't make it to air did in fact make it to air.
I went to see the British dudes reactions when driving the TRX on roads in the US, where it's not so oversized.
That truck definitely shouldn't be riding around
"It's not great for country roads", there's a big difference between being a pain to you compared to being a pain and worry for every single person you pass while you're riding white
That has to be the best way to explain life. Life is a game of snakes and ladders. That’s awesome
Now that’s an honest interview.
If there was a team of poor, disabled drivers, I’d be right there.
Well done guys.
👏👏👏👏👏
Ben, you don't know what a land yacht is my man 😊
No, he really doesn't. 😂 My '79 Lincoln Continental is bigger than most English 'flats'.
Ah yes, the old floating Lincolns and Caddys.
These videos are better than anything UK Top Gear has put out since 2016...
Mikes shitting your pants on shoot question does resonate with me, because I have a "nervours" digestive System :)
Hammond got the squirts on a couple of the big shoots (Three Wise Men and the India special IIRC).
Is it the brown rain?
That was it 😄
“It’s arrived - the brown rain “ 🤣
"How many cameras would you like on the windscreen?"
"Yes"
How ironic that Ben who speaks so well and fluidly never spoke a word as the Stig...
Oh. So not socially controversial nor socially cancelled. Just segments where the car manufacturer was displeased with their portrayal. 🥱
Old New Top Gear was greatly entertaining, but it's 90s TG that I remember most fondly. Caustic Opinion is shocking and edgy and funny, but it meant more next to the facts to back it up.
11:25 so I'm gonna assume he watches Driver61 and EngineeringExplained. :D
Top gear, The Grand Tour, these shows can never be beaten imo, BBC must deep down regret the removal of the the best trio to ever be on TV.
Please do one of these with Wilman
It would need to be about 20 hours long I think. Mini series job 😄
"Atomizing everywhere", such a British way of describing the runs, lol.
I really wish Mike asked if ( if ) Ben stayed on at top gear up until the Jeremy incident. Would he have followed the boys like Richard and James did to Amazon.
unmasking the Stig under different circumstances is like unmasking a wrestler who hasnt got an alter ego. Stagger Lee was Junkyard Dog, Giant Machine was andre the giant, The Midnight rider was dusty rhodes, but we never got 100% proof. If they were unmasked, it would be amazing confirmation, but, Ol Mate here…. did anyone really know who he was? it wold have been anticlimactic at best
Now that Top Gear and Grand Tour are finished, how about a "clash of the Stigs" battle royale, pitting Perry McCarthy, Ben Collins, Abbie Eaton and whoever the most recent one was against each other in a race or two?
The best part about a TRX is the immaturity of it.
‘MURICA!
Agreed. A lot of luxury goods fall into the same category. They are just ridiculous, funny and that makes them kind of fun (sometimes). Nobody NEEDS that TRX.
I never had a chance to speak to Mr. Collins, but I have spoken at length with Mr. Ross about a lot of the controversies never seen on TV and they are all utterly wild, and I hope they find their way to YT before long!
It’s so strange, watching these two drive along having a chat while driving where I use to live… from Shepton Mallet all the way to Longleat….
I KNEW that was Shepton Mallet!! OK, I didn't. But looks lovely there.
In the red corner we have Beeeeeeeeeennnn "The Stig" Colliiiiiiiiiiiinnnnsssssssssszzzzz!!
And in the brown corner we have Miiiiiiiiiiiiike "IBS" Fernieeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhh!!!
So much enjoyed the old Top Gear.
This was terrific and so interesting, congrats!
I really enjoyed this, thank you so much!
Great episode so glad Amazon picked up and made it better
Vectra VXR. I remember seeing it on the show. The understeer was comical.
It’s Alexander Armstrong’s long lost racing driver cousin…… Ben Colin’s everyone!!!!!!! Yayyyy 😂
The word Jeremy used to describe the Vectras understeer was "catastrophic". Just watched that (again) yesterday
Mat Watson, Ben Collins, and Kimi. Would be sublime. And not called TopGear, but something more satirical... "Why. Because" .
Would Ben make an appearance at the Freedom Factory? Is he allowed with the contracts he has?
Absolutely cracking vid - really informative and funny too!
Excellent interview, Mikie
Luv that you’re driving the TRX and not some silly EV
All we know is...he was the Stig!
Really going to miss the team together. It’s a life dream to meet any of them.
They have to do something else together. They seem to enjoy it too much.
