Shane: Hey guys, Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a 2019 Jeep Wrangler, and I want to walk you through how to install Tekonsha T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness. This wiring harness is going to give you your 4-pole connection so you can pull any trailer and it's going to give you the proper lighting functions. These are going to plug directly in behind each taillight to a factory plugs. We're going to have a power wire that's going to run up and connect directly to the battery. Nice thing about that is we're not drawing any power from our lights on the vehicle.
It's drawing the power from the battery. And also this kit is going to have a converter box. What the converter box does is it protects our factory wiring from any back feed from the trailer if there's a wiring issue and vice versa. Our 4-pole plug is also going to have a dust cap. So when we're not using it, it's going to help protect our connections from dirt and debris and moisture. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's walk you through how to get it installed.
To start our installation we need to remove our tail lights. On the inside there's a little cap. Take a trim panel tool and we're going to pop that cap off. And it has a spring loaded screw in it that holds our taillight in place. We'll use a 10 millimeter socket to remove it.
So we get it out. We're going to pull up the red clip, push on this black tab and separate our wires. We're going to do that same thing on the other side.Next we're going to take one of the heat shrink butt connectors that come in our kit, the black wire coming off the converter box. We're going to add it on the end. You're going to have a bundle of black wire that comes in your kit.
We're going to take one end, strip it back, add it into the other end of our butt connector. Take our heat source and shrink it up.Now we're going to take the yellow end or the end with the yellow and brown wire, we need to feed it up. There's a large hole right back here. Then you feed it up from the bottom through that hole, and this end is going to get connected to our tail light. We're just going to match our ends. We're going to put one in through our wiring. The other end is going to connect directly to our tail light. And then we can reinstall our tail light.Next we need to mount our converter box. We need to make sure that the area's clean. What I'm going to do is there's factory wiring right here. And there's a flat spot right above it. Take some rubbing alcohol, wipe down that area. Take some two sided sticky tape that comes in the kit, put it onto your converter. I'm going to take this and stick it right up in place. We need to ground our white wire. We're going to take the self-tapping screw that comes in the kit. You want to make sure it's on a metal surface. I'm going to do it right here on the body of the vehicle. Next we're going to take the green end, we're going to route it over to our passenger side. Make sure you're staying away from anything hot or moving. What I'm going to do is I'm going to run it over top my frame rail. Going to take a socket, I'm going to pull down these two nuts holding up this heat shield, run this wire above the heat shield, over top of the frame rail here. And then I'll go up into my tail light pocket the same way I did on my driver's side. Connection's going to be the same to the passenger side tail light. My 4-pole plug, I ran it over top of my frame rail on the driver's side here, and then came over the top of this cross brace here, hooked it right to my safety chain loop. Now I can take the rest of my 4-pole wiring, bundle it up. What I'm going to do is I'm going to zip tie it on the top side of this to keep it away from my exhaust.Next we need to run our black wire up to the front of the vehicle, over to the passenger side and to the battery. Let me get it done real quick and I'll show you how I did it. What I did is just followed my frame rail all the way up to right here. Now I'm going to take the other end. I'm going to drop a line down. I'm going to pull it straight up against my firewall and then go across the back side of my firewall over to my battery. For my wire, I just ran it up from that corner of my driver's side behind these two brackets right across here, ran it through these hold downs, zip tied it right to this factory wiring. Now we can add on our fuse holder and attach it to our battery. We'll cut this to length. Add on the second heat shrink butt connector that comes in the kit. Take your fuse holder, cut it in half. We're going to strip back both
