      Ever get the impression the French avant-garde crowd spend more time thinking up their titles than writing their music?

    • @matiascouriel4470
      @matiascouriel4470 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      No! Take for example the first piece. It was made by modifying all the resonances of the attacks (resonances are electronic, attacks are acoustic). That take millions of hours in the analogic studio. Besides the technical part, "de natura sonorum" is really the masterpiece of electroacoustic music. Even today it sounds so actual.

    The fact is that this kind of music is made for one to experience its decoding while having to serach for the right tools within different zones of our brains, sometimes very far from our comfort areas. It definitely was not composed to the immediate pleasure that we more oftenly seek when we pick something up to listen to, let´s say, as our daily basis soundtrack. My tendency when getting in touch with contemporary music is to let it freely trigger reasonings that I might not be aware I had until it comes to almost chemically excite and ignite me up. That would be one reason that I, from times to times, go back to let myself interact with modern and contemporary composers. Parmegiani´s"De Natura Sonorum" or "About the Nature of The Sound" in a free translation, is one of these works. It goes well beyond (for me) a mere compilation of erratic sounds but emulates a strange succession of sounds and silences that has the wand to lead me to other principles of reasoning and reflexion. Yup, it happens with Cage, Stockhausen, Penderecky, Harry Partch, Berio, Boulez, Hindemith, Milhaud and so many other great artists. It stirs my imagination without the intoxicating power of human passions. To shorten this statement: I like it so badly. Many thanks for posting it. Cheers!

    After repeated listens, I have to say that I find this a fantastic record. This is as abstract as my wandering musical mind "gets" but it's just amazing how every single sound in this album has a completely distinguished character. They bubble, bounce, grind and soar through the ambiences, and the result it's sometimes tickling, sometimes abrasive, sometimes even melodic, but ALWAYS surprising. I'd really like to know if this record exerted some direct influence on artists such as Aphex Twin (Druqks era), because they aurally have much in common. Thanks for the upload!

    A fine musician of precision, great taste, structural intelligence and above all, accessibility in an area of music which is often marginalised outside popular culture. Could they bring back the marvellous Charles de Gaulle airport soundbite in homage ? That magical four seconds transformed travel - to and from Paris - into something very special; it cleverly underscored the extraordinary phenomenon of flight.

    The title is an allusion to Penderecki's de natura sonoris 1 and 2, but the work of Parmagiani on the soound material is much more rigorous and ascetic than that of Penderecki. This is an attractive study.

Someone else in this thread talks about Drukqs, Gwarek2 is more or less a homage to Stockhausens Kontakte.

    Lovely music, but I would - as the the first part of the music - place it in the mid or late 50:s rather than 1975, but as I get further into the piece I do hear the later influences... I can sort-of hear the precursor to e.g. Åke Parmerud. Beautiful.

    Art is definitely not only private. We live in a rock culture, hence rock is immediately approachable to us; our expectations, surroundings, education all affect our appreciation of art and what we are looking for in it. You said it yourself that you've enjoyed the piece - formalities (e.g. symphony) are a thing of culture and history - not of art itself. And novel art is (in the first few centuries anyway) often art to just a few; until it becomes widely understood throughout the culture.

Lately I've been craving stranger and more abstract music. Music that one can sink into. You should recognize that this music is subtly brilliant, as it attracts the unconscious mind. But really you should be questioning the music you prefer and wondering if it satisfies you.

Although, besides Gesang de Junglinge, I think he only wrote electro-acoustic/electronic music between 1952-60 (including Etude, the 2 Studies and Kontakte) I think there may be 1 or 2 works for orchestra & tape from the 70's too, but I'm not totally sure. no problem at all! These works are beautiful... there were some later on (e.g. Cosmic Pulses from 2007. Very good btw). For me, the best one were Hymnen which were finished in 1967. Hymnen are electronic with optional live players. So that's that.
      Could you perhaps be kind enough to suggest other electronic composers?

    • @douggrave1338
      @douggrave1338 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PiEndsWith0 Oh yeah! How could I forget Hymnen. I bought 2 copies on LP back in the 80's cuz I knew I'd wear it out!
      Other electronic/electro-acoustic composers that I love are Francis Dhomont, Tod Dockstader, Paul Dolden, and Iancu Dumitrescu (usually composes mostly for orchestra). For that matter, there are many post-war composers that began composing textural works for orchestra that almost SOUND electronic. There was even a stylistic term called "Sound Mass" to describe them: Penderecki, Ligeti, Nono, Scelsi were some of more notable ones. Then again, you may already be very familiar with them since your tastes seem relatively esoteric already!

    This work demands to be heard on a very high quality audio system (
    Levinson, Krell, Wilson Audio). It then becomes an entirely brave new world..It is magnificent!
