At the time this was taken we were at about 11.8 to one. We have since stepped up from the 871 to a high helix 1471 blower and are putting together the same motor bored to 540 cid with about 12.1 to one. We have run more than 12.2 in the past and had problems with detonation although our 60 foot times were better.
3778lb its a lot like the rotax i used to run in my altered brings back a lot of good memories immediately followed by a lot of bad memories. if i ever feel the need to liberate my bank account of a few hundred thousand dollars again im going with a Keith Black
@killrshadow Every part in or on the motor is aftermarket including the dart block. 534 was just the final displacement that resulted from the parts that went in to the bore and stroke combination we ended up with.
Like to thank Gary Sellin for safely taking us up 250 horse power from our previous base line. Now the only hard part will be keeping it pointed the right way. Yee haw
Ford made a 401, 477 and 534 from 68 to the late 80s called the superduty. It was used in comerical trucks, f600, farm equipment mainly in cement trucks. But this is a custom engine build not a ford base.
On such an overdriven motor, do the rules of tigher quench not remove detonation? Or does the cylinder pressure increase at that point mean a a few tenths could cause a head gasket to go?
I wonder how long that would last in an offshore boat? Our stuff usually runs 50-60 hrs. between OH. Motors are usually a little bigger 600 ci.. and we use chillers/inter-coolers. Do the newer Altereds run more wheel base than old school,, like back when i was a kid? Seems like 96" was the rule.
I am building a 535 BBC with a 1471 running on alcohol with dart 360 heads and the stroke is 4.5". I am curious what bore and stroke you are running and what cylinder heads? Cam size maybe? I am just curious.
Oscar's BMW & VW unleaded gas the alcohol needs help on initial start, most go gas , alcohol, nitromethane /alcohol mix . in a top fuel motor you hear the difference when it gets changed over.

WOWOOWOWOW that engine is just perfection... great job I cannot wait til mine is done.... doubt it will be this caliber but a man can dream.... (cheap sponsors).....LOL
