Thanks so much for posting this video. I was having a hard time securing my yak so it wouldn't slide and this works perfect! Love the idea with the cart as well. Happy fishing! 🎣😊
@@FishinwithGRAMPS I can’t wait to get back to Bonita Springs Fla… Your vid will be very helpfull with my pick up rental. Last year I rented a Dodge Gran Caravan but I wasn’t feeling secure with my 10 feet kayak on the roof. I ended puting the kayak inside the vehicule. It fit but with a inch to spare…
A sensitive question, with no negatve agenda. I see that you are a heavier gentleman, as am I !!! I too have a 10 foot sit on kayak made by lifetime. The reason I mention the manufacturer is that I have the same seat as your's. With my center of gravity higher than normal, balance is an issue. As is entering, and exiting my kayak. So, as a larger guy, how bout some tips ?
Recently got the perception outlaw 11.5,I love that thing but the handles on the sides double as accessory tracks so I’m to nervous to only tie to the handles 😅
Nicely done Gramps 🍻. Man i do wish i had a truck for my kayak transporting needs lol. I have to roof top my on a Jeep its a work out Lol. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼🥃🍻
@@FishinwithGRAMPS 😂. Dude im 41 and it's taken its toll on me, and having a 2year old lol. Man it's hard to keep the energy up 😂 with him. Kid's are so full of Pure Energy 🌪️ 😂
I wouldn't recommend strapping through the handles. They are only screwed on and can eventually be pulled off the kayaks. Run your straps through scupper or even peddle drive opening and just snug the straps loosely .
I have a Sportsman as well, and a Wilderness Systems cart. I'll have to try your method of unloading w/ the strap over the cart! I do have a question about your straps, though - You say you cut the hooks off, but what do your tie-downs in the bed look like? In my truck, the tie downs are these flat metal loops covered in bed liner. I would think that the straps would eventually wear through where they rub these loops, and would not feed them directly through these. I don't have a problem with the hooks on these loops, but if you don't like the hooks, wouldn't you at least want to feed the strap through a carabiner so the strap is not rubbing on a sharp edge?
Great video. I am hoping to be a new kayak owner. What length do you recommend for a new guy? Mainly want to fish with it and occasionally just enjoying the scenery I have a Honda Ridgeline with a 5.5 ft box. Nothing fancy lightweight would be nice. Seen you have a box ad well. I have 2 but with the out of control gas prices they sit in the garage. Way to expensive to operate. Thanks again
My first was a Old Town Topwater 106 (paddle) that was 10'6", then the Sportsman PLD that was the same (pedal). My son just got the Sportsman 106 to paddle, great boats and you can find them on sale time time of year.
@@FishinwithGRAMPS Thanks. Paddle vs pedal? I dont mind a workout and maybe more a model with moving parts mean more things things that break and go wrong?

Awesome tip on dropping it on the cart with the strap trick!
I was thinking of you last night when i was strapping a kayak down.
Thats a great method with the cart strapped to the end of the kayak. I'm going to have to figure something like that out
Thanks from France, it will be helpfull when I go to Florida next August !
oh, really good fishing there!

Thanks for a great video 😀
Good advice on the straps
Thanks 👍 I had to take down the first version and edit that part in because I realized I had left that info out.
Great video! Helpful tips and advice 👌 nice, simple and to the point 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video Jt.
Thx cuz!

I don't stand, as I have a bad knee. I sit on the side of the seat and push off from the bank.
Ty my friend
I live just north of Indy, would love to go out with you any time, I am newer to yak fishing but have been taking my sportsman 106
that'd be awesome. My brother and I are wanting to hit the river up there some time for smallies

With the wilderness system, how do you load at dock after fishing……and get kyack back onto kart
Put stuff in truck, lift kayak onto cart
I pull it all out of the water and unload

I've used carabiners as well. I actually have a yak trailer now
Great video!!
Thank you!
How long is the pickup bed plus the tailgate when its down?
Probably 8ft
Question? If you have to wheel the kayak to water , what do you do with wheels when you get kayak to water
put them behind my crate
Run the cart back to the truck if close or bring it with. Most times i bring mine back to the truck, it's less hassle than bringing it on the kayak.
Accessory layout on kayak? What paddle holders? How do they mount?
whole kayak video series coming, stay tuned
What would be the easiest way to haul two of the same kayaks, and how to tie them down?
I've hauled a couple at a time, I just scoot one all the way to one side and put the other in sideways and go to town with the straps
Do you take your seat off when you go down the road?
nah, I rarely ever take it or the crate off, I just remove my baits from the crate and stick them in the truck with the gopros and fishfinder.

@@daveholte7658 Old Town has solid drives
What model of Old Town kayak do you have?
That is a Sportsman PDL 106, I have a few videos of it on the channel if you want a closer look
One question, muy bus with a long drawer and my kayak Is 12, can it be loaded?
not sure
Did you mean the rudder? I didn't see a Propeller?
Where do you put your fishing poles?
I have a crate with rod holders I sit behind the seat
You never transport with the drive in the kayak?
nah, I always put it in the truck
My kayak doesn't have side handles though, only at the ends.

down in Bedford now, used to live in Southport/Greenwood

What is the name of your kayak cart?
made by wilderness systems
How many ft is your kayak
this one is 10 foot, 6 inches
Now. To get a kayak.
they do make fishin a whole lot easier, that's for sure.
I got an 8ft long bed but my kayak is 12ft
Get a bed extender
I just need to buy a kayak, jon boat or canoe. Lol
makes things much easier
I was looking at one of them at dicks it looked big to me and I was think how the hell do you move that thing around lol. Now I know
Yeah, I try to make it as easy as possible
In Texas cops would pull u over and cry about “they can’t see your plate “!
Looks like you're blocking the right taillight.
