The story behind the Marilyn photo is actually kinda crazy. Basically she was signed to 20th century fox at the time and despite her having had 3 years of immense success and brought them so much money, her contract hadn't changed since 1950 and she was getting paid shit and was not allowed to decide which projects she took. She wanted a new contract and to be allowed more serious roles and not just be eye candy. The studio refused mostly because the head executive of the studio hated her and then they suspended her! This was front page news at the time, with Marilyn being labelled as difficult and rude- to combat the negative press she got married to Joe DiMaggio literally days later and as part of her honeymoon flew to Japan because he had promised his ex coach to help him train baseball players there. Understandably this was not Marilyn's wish for her honeymoon, so her and the wife of the aforementioned ex basketball coach, flew to Korea and she preformed for the troops there. To say this string of good PR worked would be an understatement as when she returned to American she received a prize for "most popular female star", got a new contract with fox, a 100K bonus and was promised the lead in the 7 year itch- which is now her most infamous role ever

My guess is that the US Embassy used to be in Grosvenor (GROVE-NER) Square, there are loads of embassies in that area. They moved to Nine Elms near Battersea Power Station a few years back.
