I am 56 years old and I had never own any kind of mobil phone, and I feel free! But the sad part is that wherever I go, people is just staring at their phones, even in reunions and it is hard to make a good conversation, so sad, and also it make you feel ignored. My husband has a flip one, only because our orchard business or an emergency in the work. I have survive with out it, just like in the old times, and if somebody needs to tell me something, good or bad, I just get the news later!.

I know she's probably really quiet, but take a breath and give her the opportunity to speak lol i love to hear more of her thoughts.
Her body language from 10:10-10:30 screams "ok, I'm just here for the ride" hence the response when she's asked if she wanted to speak on the 1st item of discussion was "no, you go for it" ...then again, I've been wrong more than a few times before.

I also try the following:
No phone at the table (take "food pics" at the kitchen counter and then set food on table)
No phone 30 mins before going to bed
No phone next to bed
I DO need to work on the following:
Being comfortable with not listening to anything at least an hour a day
Stop binge watching and instead, read a book

Felt so convicted just in the 1st 10 minutes of this... and even more convicted at the end. I feel exactly the same way Alyssa says she does. I always have my phone near and I almost feel my heart race when I see it but am not looking at it. Actually excited to set boundaries and see how different and more connected I feel without it.Thank you for talking about this subject!
Self regulate... living a disciplined life, even in technology. I have to self regulate in every because everything can be so entertaining, games, facebook...lol, etc.

I've gone through weeks without Facebook and trust me. When I went back from that break I realized I didn't miss a thing.
Taking breaks from Technology and screen things is good for the mind and spirit.

Love this. Never really thought about having a balance between consuming vs doing. Did learn recently how not to idolize our quiet time so much as serving is actually just as important.

I have temporarily disabled my instagram for a few months already and I love it. I often used to find myself just reaching for my phone and instagram out of boredom and never felt refreshed afterwards. I only have my social media on my iPad and Laptop, and not on my phone, so that it's not so easily reachable.

Yes, I try it. I did loose my husband last year in September and it was really hard. Hard because I did not have kids and my life changed 100% but praying has helped lots. Blessings your way 💞

Absolutely I completely love this video, I love how you both worded it and it’s really opened my eyes on my feelings about it. I already HATE my kids being always wanting the TV. I am definitely one to be in my phone working but I feel the Peace it brings when I put my phone in another room for the day or a couple hours. I am definitely going to try to delete my IG because I definitely feel I need to unclutter my social media and get closer with God. I loved this video. Thank you so much!

Love so much of this, and technology has ways that we can adjust how available we are. If you have to be available, you can put your phone on do not disturb mode, but make certain contacts as exceptions! I take care of my sick grandma, so my exceptions are her doctors, hospitals, her daughter, her husband, and 2 family members whose kids/my other siblings that I help take care of or am an emergency contact for. We can make them more of a tool than use being used.
Hey Jeff, I think in the episode with John Mark, you mentioned a study about how social media "plaques up" the brain. My background is in Bio and I would really like to read about that! Could you pass on where you got that info from? Thanks!
I think I remember a story about the discovery and production of radium. Everyone thought it was just the most awesome element and it was played with at the production factories and put in all sorts of products. Some of the ladies that worked in the production facilities would jokingly put some on their teeth to make them glow in the dark. Years later the consequences of messing with radioactive material started killing off the workers, but the production companies insisted that radium was safe so when people started dying there was a retaliation from the workers. The employees were dying from exposure so some of them decided to sue the employment companies to be compensated for lying and putting them at an enormous health risk. Scared that information would get out that the companies killed people the kept postponing the court dates over and over again until all the workers who had filed the lawsuit had passed away from radiation poisoning.

Morning time I remember about 1500 verses for praise, worship and prayer. (Including 100 Psalms). This practice helps me to grow strong in the Lord and also to help others for the glory of the Lord. John 14:6 is my favorite verse; I preach this word to many unsaved people that they may find the peace in Jesus Christ because He is the Lord of all.
