- A pair of American Oystercatchers (Haematopus palliatus) enjoy a fine seafood dinner using their powerful orange bills to open their prey. Bobbing in the water behind them is a small collection of Brant Geese (Branta bernicla) feeding off the salad menu. They were only a few feet offshore of Long Wharf Nature Preserve in New Haven, Connecticut about an hour after the evening high tide.
