Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I've wondered about the differences in rope. Excited to watch your knot tie video.

Hey man I just wanna thank you for your videos. Bushcraft is a fascination/passion of mine and I feel like I can never research enough. Your videos are teaching me well enough to even feel confident discussing the topics with a friend who lives off foraging and trapping in the wild, no safety net, half the year every year.

Finally, someone I can tell this to who will appreciate it. Years and years ago, there were several programs on Discovery (when it was still educational based) that were about experimental archaeologists trying to figure out how things were done in the distant past. On one show they were trying to work out how the Megaliths at stonehenge were moved and raised. On a different show another group was trying to figure out how the Moai on Easter Island were transported and raised. These two different groups were well educated etc. etc. but came to many of the same very wrong conclusions. Why? Because of the rope they were using. They were trying to move large weights using Climbing rope, which as you well know is meant to stretch and absorb a fall. They would get the twenty or so guys ready and 1... 2... 3... heave... and the rope stretched... and absorbed all the force. And the rock or sledge didn't move. Leaving them to conclude that "nope, the couldn't have done it that way." In both cases I was screaming at the TV because it was so obvious. I could never understand how they could have been so stupid on such a basic level.
Thanks, that's been festering for several decades. Good to get it out.
I don't know if you have those kind of connections, but if you do, see if you can chase them down and let them know how badly they blew their experiment.
    Thanks, Bill

Hah. Maybe I am a closet-prepper. I don't see it but maybe you're onto something Neil.

@@UntamedScience It's ok mate, maybe you're just reinventing prepping. I would say I am on board with that. I think prepping is more about knowing how to deal with situations more than having things physically at hand in a stock-pile bunker. When an unexpected disaster happens you are never going to have the right things to hand, but having the mental toolkit to be able to identify valuable resources and working with them makes you adept in working your new world situation. :-)

A rock climber died recently in Joshua Tree National Park because she used a rope that was already there and the sun had degraded it and it broke on her.

Hemp is really underrated plant. I'm not even talking about recreational use, while I have smoked it, last time was like 5 years ago when I was student. But that's aside the point, Hemp is incredibly versatile plant when it comes to manufacturing stuff, maybe biggest potential is as competitor for cotton and it can be really good plant to rotate on your land to restore it. Whole plant can also be used for variety of purposes. Unfortunately Hemp in many countries is still regulated more strictly, even though industrial hemp only has trace amounts of actual THC.
But really the main selling point of hemp is that it uses way less resources to grow. Less water, pesticide and it's not as taxing for the land. And like Nuclear, it has been industry that has been supressed for ages just for some baseless fears (fanned by competition, cotton and fossil fuels). Overall making our planet worse
