  • In this episode of Polytechnica we journey into the profound philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer. Born in 1788 in Danzig, Schopenhauer is considered one of the most influential German philosophers of the 19th century. His works, particularly The World as Will and Representation, had a lasting impact on philosophy, psychology, and literature. Let us explore the life, ideas, and contributions of this remarkable thinker.
Polytechnica is a channel that delivers digestible philosophical bites that can be consumed anywhere at anytime. The general tenor of the work is specifically designed to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. It is in this spirit of a toy theorem (a deliberately simplistic model with many details removed so that it can be used to explain a mechanism concisely) coupled with slow cinema (minimalist, observational, non-narrative, and deliberately contemplative long takes) that we attempt to reveal an applied, quiet, uncluttered, and practical way of consuming challenging content. We are engineering thought.

Great video, Schopenhauer has been the first Philosopher I took real interest in. I really value his metaphysics and find the concept of the will to be a great tool for understanding other worldviews and concepts. His conclusions regarding his metaphysics are something I firmly reject. In my eyes the two ways I see if confronted with his conception of the world is either Mainländers route or the nietzschean affirmation of life.

The background music is from a collection of field recordings that we edited and mixed.
