One of the best explanations and the bonus here is that you mentioned alternatives to substack. Great idea that we can build our own through any freelancer instead of paying 10%. Great video. Thanks.
The problem with traditional email newsletter providers are their costs. For newbees out of the gate, Substack is free to set up, only takes a 10% cut from "paid" subscriptions, and your email list is yours. However, all the content you create is on their platform, not yours. So for SEO, Substack gets all the benefits as well as if you are trying to build a user base, audience etc. where you may want to invest in ads, (since between AI, Google updates even SEO) are becoming less reliable, your ads would have to point to your Substack... Tough dilemma and I'm trying to find a way to combine both....Any thoughts?
Hi Spencer, thanks for the review. I have a questions though... all the alternatives you mentioned start charging you if your subscriber list exceeds 1000 members and I think Substack doesn't charge you even though you have 50k subs, isn't this true? I mean, wouldn't it be a good idea to use Substack just a free way to notify your TH-cam's subscribers whenever you post a new video? (obviously without using the paid version of Substack) Thanks
Is Substack something that someone could start and grow and make money with, if they, right now, have no platform and are unknown and have no subscribers? Or does one need followers somewhere else first, that they can then redirect to Substack?
Great video, my only comment is that if you are making $50,000 a month in revenue and you hire a full time person to do all the stuff they do $60k a year probably won't cut it so 10% is a great value proposition plus the opportunity cost of setting it all up yourself
Hmm, I guess I disagree. I don't think Substack is doing that much that you can't set up yourself for a few hundred dollars. (Plus any monthly fee on an email service provider which is much less than 10%).
Hi there... my client has deep expertise in multiple areas ... Should he setup separate Substack accounts for each area, or should he consolidate all of his writings in a single account? .. thx much ...
Under the Berne Convention, whatever you write has an instant copyright without you doing anything. Assuming Substack doesn't play the publisher, that copyright is yours. Keep in mind, however, that enforcing a copyright in court can be messy and expensive. Also, I'd strongly suggest you include a copyright notice with each posting. Include whatever limitations and permission you'd like to see observed.

Glad you enjoyed the explanation and the alternatives. Lots to think about, but 10% is a heavy price to pay.
Strawberry blonde hair and a dark beard.. for sure a hybrid ET :) great video & appreciate you

You can have your own domain now
Hitting like for that handwritten notes!
It looks like the substack team saw your video and fixed every drawback, except for fees.

Bump.
Substack has custom domains now. But good video overall.

What is the difference between Substack post and thread? Thanks.
My question is copyright. If i write on substack, it is immediately copyrighted?

Thx !! This was helpful.
Why wouldn't you just have people send you money directly through cash app or PayPal?
Hello boss. Being a while. Nice look. I am not going with substack. It depends on the niche too. You split the beans well.👍👍👍
Glad you like the look! Thanks :)
Thanks for the video. I didnt know about u, but now I do. Peace.
Cool beard. Let it grow. (but I'm biased in that regard)
Rock on! :)
That was a great help, thanks
I'm indifferent to beards 🧔🏼
Thanks for the freat video Spencer. Any suggestions on the best payment processor I could hook up to constant contact?
I don't know that one.
Substack allows for a faster product to market than starting your own website
Video starts at 0:40
not true - you can have your own branding and use your own domain or sub-domain
Loe Reed sang:
Little Joe never once gave it away
Everybody had to pay and pay
Sounds like a good business plan.
Shave it!
Am I the only guy having challenges with setting up Substack? Their "support" is pathetic!
