Offgrid Solar Heating with a Castle Pellet Stove

- Recently purchased a SERENITY Pellet Stove #12327 to run off my battery bank. It’s been great so far stove. Start up draws about 400 watts for 12-16 mins, then when blower comes on, the draw drops to close to 72 or so. Once the stove reaches the set temp, it slows the heating process down. I noticed people complained about that feature as they wanted it to shutoff and restart when the temp dropped. This is a terrible idea as that would cause the stove to draw another 400 watts x 15 for restart. Those of us on solar understand how that’s a bad idea.
Anyway, this is just a quick vid, if anyone has any tech questions, I’ll do my best to answer.
Thanks
Glad I found your video. My wife and are are doing a 48 volt off grid system we are setting up on our mountain property... we are going to have to look into this unit. Thanks for posting your video!
In running 48. It’s wonderful
A good solar set up makes life great :). Hope you have a Merry Christmas
I like the look and LOVE the fact that this is safe indoors but got to find the price. lol THANKS FOR SHARING ~ CHERI
Agreed on the small hopper size. It'll hold 40lb bag, but only when it starts completely empty. I've contemplated a secondary hopper, but have yet to get that far. I can appreciate the solar aspect, I'm only at 500 watts and trying to get started on an off-grid type journey. ✌️🖖
So do you not have to put a mat under it or some type of heat shield behind it to protect the floor and wall?
I'm looking into pellet stove &also try to run on solar mostly.... thanks for the Video.... can you do an update let us know how it's working out so far
Yes. I will actually. It’s been great
Hey brother and you are running that stove with a solar system and if you are what is the size of your solar system because this is the fifth video I see people saying that pellet stoves are better than the regular wood stoves?
You should put a mat under it
dont need a stove board underneath it for heat
Does it drain your Electric ?
I have the same stove with a fairly new stick build house. no way i can get 16 hours on selection 1 let alone 5 i must suck
@@Dooguy I actually took this stove down to my business in town. I upgraded to a larger stove. They have both been really good to me
What’s the really cool feature?
Weekly Programming IS the cool feature. It'll start/shutdown anytime you program it too. It's a great feature that works well. You can run it on manual or temperature based as well.
I got one
Too bad you didn’t keep the wood stove, for when at home.
You say it's been on since 11 this morning and has only used less than a half a kw, but you didn't say what time it was.
How much power to run it for 24hours? I also have a 48v solar setup with 10kw of lifepo4 and 3500w of solar. In the winter in oregon I often have to supplement power with a generator so it's daily consumption running a whole day on low med and high would be great to know.
Sorry. I didn’t do a good job with the power consumption. So 2 winters later - The draw is consistent 405 watts for 12 mins while it ignites. Then depending on temp setting, which we usually set at 72 since we have a woodstove going as well, it pulls roughly 71 continuous watts. It’s pretty legit for people ok solar. I’m using 16 Rolls Surette 450 amp batteries. Dec and January I usually top my bank for 90 mins with genny and that’s when I fire up the pellet stove. I currently have 7500 watts worth of panels so even on crap days I’m able to stay above 50.00. I actually bought a 2nd one of these for my business down in town.
@@OkanoganLiving Thank you.
" I currently have 7500 watts worth of panels so even on crap days I’m able to stay above 50.00"
Yea, I only have half that.
"I’m using 16 Rolls Surette 450 amp batteries."
So what does that work out to just over 40kw usable, since you can only use half, is that right? Even at half usable that's still 4x my battery capacity.
Hmmm, still might be doable but I'm pretty certain I'm going to need to double my panels.
How much power does your 7500w of panels bring in during the worst of winter? I end up just living on the generator and my panels seemed almost useless last winter in oregon.
@@jimbob3030 it’s about 23 KWH to 50%. I don’t use more than 5 a day during winter, usually less. I’m able to keep my bank between 50.2 and 50.7 on the worst of days How ever I can’t ever get to float in Dec / Jan without the genny. I’m at 4000 feet anf see pretty decent sun for all but 4 weeks

I didn't understand your battery capacity until I googled and found they are 6v batteries. Totally threw me off.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
Horrible product. Always broken. Very unreliable. Spend your money somewhere else.
Clean up the pellets
