In this episode we examine ‘Maus’, the recently banned Pulitzer Prize winning graphic novel by Art Spiegelman. It tells the story of a son trying to reconnect with his father while the shadow of the Holocaust looms heavily in the background. By not hammering the inherent emotion of source material, ‘Maus’ inavedertantly becomes the most heart rending depiction of the Holocaust we’ve seen. Join us as we explore Speigelman’s masterpiece, and try to understand the reasons for it baffling ban.

Great review! Also loved that you guys tried a graphic novel without any prejudice toward the artform (comics)

I like the ease in which you both communicate. I’ve never read this novel however, this review has prompted me to definitely make it my next purchase. Thank you.
As an aside, I am from England and admittedly not usually a fan of US accents but you both have certainly altered my perception. May I ask: Where do you originate ?

Much appreciated! We feel accomplished whenever someone tries a book because of our show. We’re both from Texas! We are big admirers of English culture and its rich tradition of controversial writers - Blake, Orwell, D.H. Lawrence- some of our favorites…

I know I'm late to the conversation. Which level of school banned it? Because yeah, I could see Maus being a lot for an average eight year old to grasp. The images alone would be a lot for a grade schooler. But was it high school? Any high schooler should be able to grasp the face value message of Maus. Banning it for readers 14+ is just not wanting the message to be heard.

This is May 2023 and I am in complete shocked to see the devoted support that Polish people and people In many other parts of the world, including the USA ( not America as it is a continent comprise of 36 independent and sovereign countries one of them being the USA) shown to nazis in the conflict in Eastern Europe. People seems to forget that USSR liberated Jews from this masacre not the other way around!!!
