I did a few nights in Desolation about 6 years ago and camped one night on the east shore of Lake Aloha. Definitely one of the most scenic places I've ever pitched a tent. Just came back last weekend from Emigrant Wilderness and the vast exposed granite landscape in the mid-Sierras makes for astoundingly beautiful lakes. Aloha Lake was also the place where bears came by to investigate and play with our bear cans. We made the same mistake you did by placing our cans kinda close to the water, but we paid for it by having the bear can roll into the water when the bear was done playing with it. Prevailing wind kept the can near shore (lucky), but it partially filled with water. Only a couple items were ruined (also lucky) as everything else was in original sealed packaging. From that day onward, I've always put my bear can in a place where the bears can play or stomp on it, but the can won't roll into water or off a cliff.
Glad you were able to make it out this way and had a great time. DW is now full of smoke from the Mosquito Fire and the first snow of the season arrived. Timing was in your favor.
Desolation Wilderness is beautiful! A couple years ago, we did a short one-nighter to Grass Lake, which is a couple miles east of Lake Aloha. One of these days, we'd like to try to do the Tahoe Rim Trail.
Really well done video in all aspects Kevin - great composition. Beautiful drone shots, editing, music, and trail footage. One of your best imho. Enjoyed watching and really noticed the quality. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I didn’t know until someone told me but those alpine trails with all that exposed granite are hard on a dog’s paws. Don’t know if that was the issue or not but on anything longer than a few miles up there, I recommend paw covers.
@@safromnc8616 I love the Schill Brothers and their channel, but they should know better. Their channel is large enough to set an example for everyone else that watches. Others might watch this and think it's ok to fly drones at Desolation Wilderness. What if the Schill Brothers leaves litter or doesn't practice leave no trace principles? Someone's gotta call them out on it
@@tommybewick Desolation Wilderness is NOT a national forest. It literally has Wilderness in the name. If it was a national forest, it would be called Desolation Forest (which it is not)
Still sucks to have a bunch of drones flying overhead so someone can have "B" roll content for their TH-cam channel. Wait till there's 20 of them flying over you at Aloha.
Great trip video! Looks like you guys have been picking up some tips and tricks from Adventure Archives your videography and scene transitions etc are getting better all the time.

Great footage. Any opinions about only using one hiking stick?

Are you flying a drone in a wilderness area?
These comment get old. Mind your own.
Arcana - I commented on this in another comment. No drones were taken/used on this trip. It’s a fair question.
Nice, you're in my neck of the woods. Welcome!
Welcome to my stomping grounds. I hike in Desolation almost every week.
Grouse always get me!!
Ruffed grouse have scared me more than anything else when backpacking!
The wilderness act prohibits motorized vehicles in wilderness areas, that includes aircraft and drones 8:10
Oh my, the drone troll/police !

lol yikes dudes. i can say me and my dog have been to this exact place.
Drones, an off-leashed dog and bear canisters placed feet from a lake. SMH.
Yup!!! Sh - it Howdy!!! 🤠🤣
Another off-leash dog in an area that requires them to be leashed.
Why would you think taking a dog is a good idea
....
The dog should carry her own stuff
