Beauty of the pedal is that cleanup, especially useful when soloing on the neck pickup. Guitar volume somewhere around 3-7 for great tones with just a hint of snarl and not much honk, but then when you roll up the guitar volume it's like kicking on a mid boost, epic!
Awesome work! Recently got an older 2007 Beano Boost for a very fair price locally. The gain is so perfect for getting near the coveted "VOL 4" territory. I should add that with the guitar volume on 2, and the BB cranked you can get some very interesting sorta clean tones.
Compared to an OCD? You realize that they are totally different, right? The TB is basically a boost that EQ's the signal while adding grit. The switch goes between the high mids, and a flatter mid push. The OCD is a proper Op Amp Overdrive pedal with a full tone stack. The TB would work well with the OCD, or just with your amps pre amp.
It has a little hiss as you hit the higher levels of boost, but nothing out of the ordinary for a transistor-based pedal - you can stack it comfortably into other drive pedals & it not be a problem. And yes, it definitely needs an unbuffered, high-impedance signal....it doesn't necessarily have to be first in the chain, but you won't want to stack another pedal into the front end or have buffered-bypass pedals placed in line before it.
There's a lot of noise floor variation in TB designs.I used the EQD Bows for years because it is the best sounding TB I had found, but it was pretty noisy. The Analogman stuff generally doesn't suffer that issue.
It's lovely :-) This one is pretty modified nowdays - it's got new pots, caps & some PAF-style pickups rather than the higher-output ones that came stock. But it's got a big chunky neck on it which I really like. The only thing I've struggled with in the past is that whenever I've gigged with it or played it for a long time in the studio, the binding starts to tear my arm to pieces as I play when I'm sweating! But...fabulous guitar :-)
@@JoePerkinsMusic awesome , I was scared of big necks until I tried one and I've never looked back (slight v shape) big is misinterpreted. Does a custom have anything a standard doesn't ?
Think nowadays it's mostly an ebony fretboard rather than rosewood, gold hardware and the triple-binding around the edge. Stock, it sounded very similar to my Standard (hence why I changed it!) but had a tiny bit more fizz in the upper midrange. Historically, I believe the Standard was a Mahogany body with a maple cap whereas the Customs were solid Mahogany (I think nowadays the Custom has a maple cap too) But they're definitely more similar than different! :-)
Sure you'll love it! :-) If you're used to Fenders, Gibsons with PAF-type pickups can be a good starting point....a fair bit brighter & single coil-like than the 490R/498T's that come in a lot of them.
Both want to be first in line - stacking one into the other, either way around, will cause the 2nd pedal to misbehave as they both need a direct connection to the guitar - any buffering (which both pedals do when engaged) will make the gain of the second shoot up, the sound become harsh & the cleanup off the guitar's volume not work very well. Personally I wouldn't stack them together at all...both will likely sound best on their own and first in line.
@@AndreFugissawa There's no 'better' or 'worse' really - the sound is just different, as you're boosting the signal into an additional gain stage with the KOT in line. It's all just personal preference.
Don't understand spending $200+ on a treble booster . Just get a MXR EQ which is 10 band iirc. I should know cause I have 3. Not only can you sculpt your tone and leave it on but use it at specific times/songs. Use it for certain guitars, It is also a db boost for solos and can get you some great gain. I do not like the GE-7 Boss which IMO colors the tone and has less sliders.
I'd say that they do very different things, especially tonally.I've tried a number of MXR EQ's, and TBH, I really dislike what they do to the signal.I hear a loss of range just switching it on.EQD's Tone Job is a better unit, very simple, and with a low noise floor and clean headroom.20 DB cut or boost which doesn't color the signal, and built like a tank.

Great effects, great demos. Really wish to have one though it must be difficult.
Big thanks from Japan!
Wonderful sounds. The mix of mics and amps you use clearly do it all justice. Need myself a mini beano!! Thanks for sharing :)
Everybody needs a Beano!! ;-)

They're awesome :-) Such great clean up, as you say...I'm using it so much at the moment!
Throaty and present...as it should be. Thank you, Joe!
Fantastic tones there!
That’s the sound
Sounds great!
Not too hard to find the OC72 if that's what you are after. Switch is pretty cool either way - would be nice to have that switch on the guitar!
just put the pedal in your guitar...
Beck’s Bolero
That's great and all, but how does it sound through a right-handed guitar? JK... great review.
For real
If true tone's in the hands ,which hands ? Cuz I might be screwed I'm left handed but play right handed ha .
Thanks. Have you compared your treble booster vs. an OCD? I'm using an OCD right now but on the fence to a TB!!!

参考になりました!
This is awesome 🔝😇
Does anyone think Joe looks like Paul Kossoff?
I’ll take that 👍 Haha!!
It's cool but still a little thin for single note lines......theres something about those old rangemasters man
Joe when you switch it on does it generate a shedload of background noise and is it a must be first in the pedal chain type unit ?

New subscriber. I just love your videos.
Sounds good but what was that other device you added to the Beano boost?
At 5:21? Stacking the Beano into a King Of Tone...?
Brother , what's a Les Paul custom like to play ??

@@JoePerkinsMusic thanks Alot they really informed me well as I'm looking at buying my first les Paul after 18 years as a Fender man.

Could I use this after a sunbender or would it need to be before?

How do you like the beano into the KoT? Do you really use this combination in a daily basis?
Artemis D'Arcy
Absolutely - it's a fantastic combination, especially if your amp(s) are set pretty clean.
We can't really trust on the quality of youtube videos, you know. For what I can hear here, beano by itself is better than with the KoT

Or just build your own.. The most simple circuit.. Built mine with an OC72 for under a tenner in under 30mins.. Absolute rip off..
They don't do the same thing. Two different animals.
Although it is always a good idea to have both.

Stuffed animals? Wtf
Those cuddly toys in the bed are just straight up creepy 0/10
Right
Absolutely terrible demo. The only thing the guy does is to strum a few chords... how is that meant to show what the pedal can do ???
He does more than that. Maybe you didn't watch enough?
Disagree 100% 👎🏼
what fucking video did you watch ? I hope this is't Wolfy ,but if your last name's not Van Halen. Then what is your malfunction ?
Sounds great!
