Oh, it was neat to see the lion head noticed on a spear. The big ol' lion was noticed to just be a costume for what seems to be omen, since they got the f e e t like Morgott. Looks as though that scene at the end of Messmer's segment was explicitly the three omen who were in it being impaled. Neat.
They choose their words very carefully. I think affair is definitely a double entandre. As in there was a relationship "affair", and also a sequence of events "affair"

Chances are its either the Primordial Crucible, the skinned victims of the Godskin Apostles, or somehow both. We can see Marika (she's wearing Marika's wristband) pulling out some sort of thread from... something (the corpse of the Gloam Eyed Queen? It definitely looks kinda Godskiny). We see her brandish these threads in front of a golden light, from which comes a strong wind, or maybe the roar of a beast. The Elden Beast's theme song is playing during this scene so take of that what you will. I'd wager we are seeing Marika making contact with the Elden Beast at the Crucible, shortly before it starts to become the Erdtree. In order to do this, she likely had to betray whoever's corpse she got those threads from.

So far my guess is this: Marika/Radagon has another child with some sort of shadowy being, probably as a sort of prerequisite for the Golden Order to come into being, and the child of this relationship is Messmer, who is probably like the unwanted child from a chapter of Marika's life that she doesn't like to talk about. And I think that Miquella, against their destiny to live as an Empyrean under the Golden Order, stayed in that abandoned Shadow Realm because of his kind soul, because he wanted to do something about the terrible situation there (which I‘m not sure yet what that exactly is). What do you think?
All the NPCs in the trailer seem like terrifying zealots (Messmer in particular) and since my character sided with Ranni against the Golden Order I fully expect to fight, long and hard from the very beginning in this DLC XD
I feel the cutscene shows the amount of people sacrificed to seek an audience with the greater will . Looks like a ritual . Somewhat akin to bloodborne in seeking audience with the greatOnes. The bodies the blood and the betrayal. The order was built on blood and lies

Everything "good" she attempted to do, actually created an equal "evil". This goes along with what my theory has been, and what the game has been screaming at us in whispers....Marika was either incredibly stupid, vain, or pure evil...or all of the above. So, Miquella abandoned everything, even his Fate (St. Trina), but his Disciples, or the Disciples of the Light, continue on in his stead. Will you walk with them? Or, will you continue on your path of killing ANYONE and EVERYONE that was involved with Marika's reign. Perhaps, once again, we will get to choose our ending. Though...becoming Eldon Lord seems to have been of minor consequence, since literally nothing changes...and no one even recognizes you as the Elden Lord passed the ending. Either way...Messmer staring down that Lion Beast was awesome AF

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty did it already. Which is to its playerbase what the game should have been at launch had that same playerbase shut their mouths and let the devs release the game 6 months later than scheduled. Shadow of the Erdtree is my GOTY pick this year
I really hope this is like a sequel to the main story, and you are already Elden Lord, but knowing Miyazaki, its probably just a prequel like every other DLC
Consider that the current Erdtree sits at the edge of the capital it makes me think that Miyazaki will fill the whole middle hole in the map with Shadowlands
