The Barenboim-Said Akademie, founded by Daniel Barenboim, provides top-tier musical education in Berlin and beyond, emphasising orchestral training and artistic expression. It fosters an inclusive environment, ensuring access for all students to excel. Barenboim and Edward W. Said established the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in 1999, aiming to unite Arab and Israeli musicians for peace. This initiative led to the founding of the Barenboim-Said Akademie in 2015, continuing the mission of its predecessors by educating the next generation of musicians with a curriculum inspired by their vision. Michael Barenboim, born in Paris in 1985, is a renowned classical violinist and violist, serving as concertmaster of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and holding positions at the Barenboim-Said Akademie, including professor of ensemble playing and violin, and dean since 2020 until February 2024.
The talk focuses on the situation of the students from the Barenboim-Said Akademie regarding their experiences coping with the Middle East conflict. It highlights Michael Barenboim's viewpoint as a Jewish musician in Berlin, closely connected with refugee students and their perspectives. Barenboim and Balzer discuss themes such as freedom of speech and representation in Germany.

In tandem with bringing the Singularity University Summit to Berlin, Balzer played a pivotal role in deepening the conversation on digitalization and the challenges posed by technological disruption. A sought-after keynote speaker and event moderator, Balzer frequently discusses future-forward business subjects like digital transformation, disruptive innovation, new leadership, and cultural change. His speeches resonate with his unique perspective on exponential thinking and the essential evolution of executive mindsets for the coming era. Over his career, Stephan has anchored around 80 conferences and has delivered numerous illuminating talks on stage.
Following his performance of Schönberg's Violin Concerto in Cologne under Pierre Boulez, Michael Barenboim (1985) swiftly ascended to international acclaim. He debuted with prestigious orchestras like the Vienna Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and Berlin Philharmonic. His recitals have graced renowned venues worldwide, including the Elbphilharmonie, Sydney Opera House, Wigmore Hall, and Teatro San Carlo di Napoli. Notable performances include works by Boulez at esteemed venues such as Berlin Philharmonie and Carnegie Hall. As a member of the Boulez Ensemble, he's premiered compositions by Jörg Widmann, Kareem Rouston, and others. He's a professor at the Barenboim-Said Academy and dean since 2020 until February 2024, and co-founded the West-Eastern Divan Ensemble. Despite the pandemic, he debuted with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic. His solo albums feature a diverse range of composers, including Bach, Bartok, Tartini, Berio, Paganini, and Sciarrino. He's also recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, notably performing Mozart and Beethoven piano quartets and trios with esteemed colleagues.
