Sparring Thai Fighters - Khongsittha

  • I am here at Khongsittha Muay Thai, one of my personal favourite gyms in Bangkok, Thailand. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to spar with two of the Thai fighters/instructors here. One of them, 42 years of age with 145 fights and the other with over 200 fights. Obviously, both of them gave me a good beating! If you ever visit Bangkok, I recommend you visit this gym!

    For those of you who don’t understand the noise thai people make when sparring. I’m a thai amateur fighter who born and bred here and basically to explain it is that we make that sound as kind of a teasing and to keep it light. If we just do sparring quietly then it will build tension and we automatically start to get rougher and rougher so the noise is basically to tell the other person that “I got you with that one” and a way to friendly tease the other person.

      Idk if it's the same, but in Vietnamese culture, oiii is a term associated when someone is hurt. So saying it in a teasing way would have the exact same mean, "Gotcha, that would've hurt."

      Hello my friend! 😊 I have a question. Tell me please! I live in Moscow. In our training, sparring is tough and rough. Sometimes fighters get injured. In this video, I see a light sparring, but very technical. Tell me pls what sparring sessions should be? Hard or light?

    • @taylorg2787
      @taylorg2787 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I may... sparring should mostly be light, with some occasional hard sparring. Otherwise like you said you get injured, also it is draining and tough to stay consistent and motivated (for me). Keep it light mostly that way it's fun, you look forward to it, which keeps you coming back and getting better, then throw in mutually agreed hard sparring. From what I've heard if you train in Thailand and go really hard in sparring regularly they'll think you are clueless.

    Man those clinch dumps look so effortless. I’m always amazed at how the top tier manipulate the opponent in close quarters. That first foot sweep the second guy did was super slick. The one he got while you were closing range. Love your vids man! You have earned every subscriber and deserve more.
