Gentrification does not care about "historic" value. They look at dollars. It's stupid to think anyone will look at historic value when politicians are being paid in money vs historic value. Think people.
These landlords have short term thinking. Why are other parts of downtown LA not getting so many travelers to walk around and shop? Because they're just a random assortment of businesses. People go to Melrose or La Brea for fashion stores. They go to Sawtelle because of Asian restaurants.
They go to Little Tokyo to experience Japanese culture. You're just making the area worse by kicking out Japanese restaurants. If I wanted to go to a Marijuana dispensary I would just go to any other one you can find around the city.
100%
@thedrunkweddingphotographer I think Little Tokyo should leave LA and move it to Glendale or Burbank they're the safest cities in California and they're very clean cities I recommend all of the Japanese people
No ones goes because of crime.
@@keithb6717 Oh man. I'm sure going to believe you. And yet it's still the most popular downtown LA area. There are definitely homeless, but you have to walk another 4 blocks south. All the businesses in Little Tokyo don't really interact with them.
@@solenstyle
It’s not the homeless that you need to really worry about. One specific group that can’t be named of criminals targets Asians.
While it might be the most popular, foot traffic has greatly diminished.
Hollywood sucks now this is happening. Just make it all skid row at this point. Just a matter of time. LA is finished as a tourist attraction
What a damn shame. Suehiro Cafe was one of the two restaurants I would frequent on dates often. I haven't been to Little Tokyo since moving out from East L.A. five years ago though.
It was bad enough the homeless invaded Little Tokyo, now bring in a dispensary, give it five years and Little Tokyo will be South Central #2.
This is so cruel and so wrong.
well go to Tokyo and eat it there.
@@JohnEastmanExAttyAtLawmaybe they should move Little Tokyo to Glendale or Burbank they're the safest cities in California and they're very clean cities that's the only options
@@JohnEastmanExAttyAtLawor how about moving Little Tokyo to Inglewood
Why'd you say this on every vid lol
Little Tokyo has been on a decline for decades. It's sad how much it has changed over the years and how many businesses keep closing down. I personally don't think there will be a Little Tokyo anymore in 10-20 years from now from the way things are going.
Why is it declining??
It's not declining. On the contrary, it's a turnaround story especially after the Regional Connector opened 7 months ago with the new Little Tokyo station. I'm not surprised the landlords want to kick out the legacy businesses because they foresee a continuing growth of new visitors using the LA Metro station. It's probably the busiest of the three new underground stations.

Landlords want profitable businesses... Don't know why they'd want a dispensary, they're a minefield of taxes right now... Something else is up, here...
I honestly didn't know anybody even wanted to still live downtown??
I thought it takes 6 months to evict in CA
Guarantee if little Tokyo is no more, that area will turn into a shit hole really quick.
Going there since the early 1990s. Little Tokyo will just look like everyplace else in L.A. soon. Starbucks, McDonalds, Chase Bank, Panda Express.
😢
Like everywhere else in the country. Yeah boring....
Coming next, a shitty Starbucks
Imagine if anyone else had said that!
Landlords only care about money. If a dispensary is at little Tokyo, I'm never coming back to the place. Never.
And we thank you for that. There's nothing like a Karen announcing that they are leaving. Just go.

You can come back just support the remaining Japanese businesses and bring awareness of what that landlord has done
Damn that sucks. I wonder if the owner has ever consider becoming a migrant?
Why Can't they cry racism and be talked about on cable news channels ?
Seriously?
Seriously?
That’s horrible 🤨 They want to bring in newer buildings from low value to high value with higher paying businesses. Stay strong 💪
Little Tokyo should've reinvented itself like Koreatown. For those who don't know, there are two parts of K-town that look and feel different. The part on Olympic is old, but still has the feeling. The part on Wilshire looks and feels like the modern Korea with K-Pop. But you can't deny one without the other.
While I agree, reinventing itself would present a challenge for a community as relatively small as Little Tokyo's. K-town is both larger and more integrated within its broader community, whereas Little Tokyo is, for lack of a better term, more insulated and also geographically smaller. A larger commnunity is better able to diversify and assimilate without sacrificing too much of what makes it a culturally significant area.
Koreatown is a nightmare. Traffic, Crime, Homeless bums everywhere, janky stores. I avoid it at all costs.
Nothing to do with that. These restaurants are still very profitable. The landlord just wanted to evict the japanese businesses in place of a misplaced idea that marijuana makes more money.
The young ones are not forced to marry other Japanese, you can’t have a liberal city then cry about culture being washed out.
Gee , I’ve never seen this before
And how DID Mr. Suzuki and his family members all vote?
Yes
I wish little Tokyo can move to a more clean and nice neighborhood city. LA downtown is so dirty, chaos and full of homeless ppl, which totally contradicts Japanese culture. If Los Angeles city doesn't do anything to keep little tokyo in place, there will be one less nice spot to attract tourists around the world to come visit LA.
Welcome to America.
where are other ethnicities who drone on and one about gentrification and race? They are glaring absent here.
What's that supposed to mean?

How is a marijuana dispensary gentrification?
White people do the most weed in LA
Because they're clientele will be wealthier customers than has been traditionally shopped in the area.
for the same reason they bring up events that happened 80 years ago, to garner sympathy from smooth-brained bleeding-heart hypocrites.
You don’t sound every bright. It’s gentrification because the more these non Japanese businesses establish themselves in Little Tokyo the less it feels like little Tokyo. It’s going to be like everything else and lose the essence of the Japanese community. Over the years there have been many closures or businesses being kicked out that represent the Japanese community
How is this different from others displaced because of gentrification.
Its not.
we need more Japanese restaurants in Texas, Northern Virginia.
MJ dispensary? Yeah, good luck having that place boycotted.
Im a stoner 😎 but i don't support that shop. Never bin to Japan but when i visit little Tokyo i feel like im in Tokyo
It was its own fault for being expensive and outside the village or that strip mall
Orange County and San Gabriel Valley doesn’t have this problem with their Vietnamese communities or Chinese Communities.
LA businesses and property don’t seem to be doing well.

Sad to say i ONLY ate at Little Tokyo once in my Lifetime
i find Parking Difficult and Homeless People Everywhere
it's near LA City Hall, Courts, Jails, LA County Jail, LAPD Headquarters, etc....
LA City Hall surrounded by Homeless Encampments/Tents, "if" they're Camping in proximity to LA City Hall, then it's NO wonder LA/CA's a mess. City Leaders can't even solve the Homeless Camps around LA City Hall and Freeway Overpass, how can they solve the City's Homeless Crisis

Just Uber/Lyft there.

Little Tokyo is not that close to City Hall. And very little of what you describe exists right now. There haven't been homeless camped around City Hall for more than two years. Little Tokyo has very few homeless compared to other areas. Skid Row is about 6-7 city blocks away. Not close at all.

They didn't have a problem tearing down rights fought for by other people as long as their children got a leg up to get into college. By now they want consideration when it comes to their culture? 🤷🏿♀
This is exactly why we need to stop this foolishness and adopt one culture, one identity. Here in this land, we are AMERICAN. Black, brown, white, yellow, red- we are sharing this nation, and we all have a hand in leading this nation to either prosperity, or destruction.
@@amyrenee1361 Knock it off, we are not all the same, we are not treated the same, we don't have the same history or the same needs.
This race thing has been going on since cave man was alive. Been going on since Egyptian, Byzantine, Roman, Ming, Babylonian times. Everyone was a slave, if you lost a battle. Either die, or be a slave. Ever hear of Roman gladiators? Slaves.
@@amyrenee1361I agree. We choose to come here and we need to embrace this country. People who feel they are treated diferente is because they separate themselves and want to live like back where they come from. I’m no saying forget your roots, but it is the jobs we find in this country what’s put food on our tables. Separation is what creates racism. Embracing each other creates happiness, sharing with other cultures the foods from each country, creates friendship. People will treat you the way you treat them😊
