i joined a comunity band this year so i could play alto clarinet. i have owned my bundy for 30 years and never got to play it, i got a few looks and remarks when i showed up with it lol. i am having a blast playing it ! so much so that i upgraded to a noblet. the parts are better than expected but some scores omit the alto and i have to play bari or alto sax parts. my only gripe is after playing bass with a floor peg-i want one for the alto also but cant find one aval. a good mpc makes all the differance on these. a vandoren transformed my bundy !
you can play any bass clef part and read it as treble and add 2 sharps to the music....i'm going to use mine to play the bassoon parts with our college community band
I just got one for my birthday (kind of on accident, the guy at the store told my grandma that is was a bass clarinet) but I still really like it, but I can't find a finger chart or music anywhere! I really wanna learn how to play this thing 😭😭
that sounded great. I have an alto and don't like to play it because of the squeaking i produce...i played it today for Christmas services and had to play everything an octave lower because everytime i would go into the upper register is would squeak....not sure if it's my mouth, reed, the instrument or what....it's been happening a lot. maybe i need stronger reeds...i'm just not sure
Double check if all your keys (especially your register vents) are sealing properly. I've had a similar issue with my Vito, and turns out the upper register vent was leaking
I've never had played a alto clarinet, but I'm interested. What are some good brands of alto clarinet for a beginner and how much should I pay for them?
as with everything these days there are a good number of very attractive looking instruments coming from overseas (China). While some may be good quality, I would rather get an older Leblanc or Noblet that has seen a few years and get it gone through by a repair tech that you trust. All in you are probably looking at $1200 for a really nice instrument.
not sure if you're still looking but you can try to find a used selmer paris on ebay for $1200-1500 and repair it for $500 ( that's what mine cost) and then you have an instrument worth 12k that you got for 2k
For secondhand, Leblanc Paris (the old one with the curvy neck) are a popular choice. For brand new, probably the Buffet prestige, though they are extremely expensive.
Nice video, sage advice! I hope that people will listen!
