Did anyone read the true story about the boy who was lost in the woods. The weather was dropping fast, and it was going to snow that night. The kid didn't have a jacket. They called off the search, because they were no equipped themselves. The boy went under a big pine tree, & during the night he could hear animal's getting closer & closer. He tried to make them go away, but he got so cold and tired he gave up. The elk laid down all around the boy all night, and kept him from freezing. The Forrest ranger confirmed that the elk saved his life, & their have been other reports about elk saving people.. God's blessing, and that boys angels!
I have heard of a story of a woman's who dog was let outside to do his/her business. The dog ended up not returning, after the woman has called for the dog over and over. And it was a bitter cold night. So she prayed and ask God to watch over her dog and protect him/her. So early in the morning she went back outside calling for her dog. When she walked to the pasture she seen her herd of cows huddled together, when she approached the cows, her dog came out from under the cows. Those cows kept the dog safe and warm all night.
I have to say that I am very impressed by your handling of this encounter. Even when you shooed him along, you didn't appear threatening to him. You exhibited respect that I don't expect from most people. Very well done!
Unfortunately I assume they're out of season..That would be like lunch walking up to me, probably still would have shot and taken him home regardless..
It's incredible you got this on film. Every awesome encounter I've had, I couldn't capture it. I'm not too sure that he was looking for a food handout, he seemed awfully curious and there was no indication that you had food nor were offering any food... This is not a typical animal scrounging for humans scrap foods... He either familiar with humans or something is odd, especially for it to be by himself like that, they are herd animals.... I love this video, they are so incredible. 😍

I saw 30 to 40 elk in a feild in broad day light in February 2022. Have lived in the mountains for 17 years. Had them go through my yard at night and until the other day I dont think I had ever seen even 1 in the day time. Beautiful animals!!!

Oh yeah, anyone who's ever seen a deer antler knows that that huge rack is like giant daggers. That would be too close for me I'd be taking cover behind the snow moblie in case it want to charge.
True, but like most dangerous animals, they are dangerous when they feel threatened, or in the case of elk and other antlered critters, they can be just downright ornery when they are in rut. This was not the case in this encounter.
When you first started the film, I had one come that close to me when my husband and I where hunting in Wa. State. Was cow elk with baby on far side and she was standing broadside trying to smell what I was. We where in an area of lumber harvesting in central Wa. And I was starting a small fire to stay warm. The elk where used to slash burns and had come within 30 feet of me. How exciting. LOL.
See those times on his antlers? See his calm not at all threatened demeanor? He was either curious or hungry, and had been given food from humans before. But y’all did the right thing by not petting him, if he can find the soft squishy parts of an attacking wolf, finding them on humans would be a breeze.
Great video and an amazingly beautiful animal. I swear both Deer and Elk carry calendars. During Elk season all I see are Deer, and the opposite during Deer season. That was risky!

This must be in Yellowstone. They don't get hunted there, and don't have any reason to fear humans. Everywhere else, you won't get this close unless you're gifted at stalking.
