  • In my opinion, probably one of the most breathtaking approaches in the world! Just look at that skyline on approach! Seen here is porter airlines flight 252 landing at Toronto's city centre island airport (CYTZ).
*An interesting note: Porter is one of only two airlines in North America to be given a 4 star ranking by the company Skytrax® - which is a trusted advisor regarding airline quality standards.
    Flight Info:
    Recorded: August 29, 2010
    Airline: porter airlines
Aircraft: Dash 8 Q400 which features a noise and vibration suppression system
    Depp: CYOW
    ARR: CYTZ
    Flight time: 50 mins
    Seat: 5D
    Camera used: Canon sd 780is
    Thanks for watching!

I remember going to toronto a few weeks ago for a concert and while driving to the venue saw a plane very low out above the water I had no idea there was an airport near so I though I was witnessing another emergency landing on water!

Ha! You could not be more wrong about my level education, where I work, knowledge of business, stance on elitism, or number of visits to YTZ. Your attack is so weak and primitively stereotypical. You take it WAY too personally so in consolation please pardon my right to an opinion. If I knew this was going to be a debate with a 10 year old I should have stayed in grade 4 instead of dropping out so soon. At least I learned how to spell in time. Nice going MrRoddygee!

So you like the cool fly by? First, Porter airlines is also barely afloat as it is. If you look at actual statistics it's no asset to the city, unless by city you mean a small handful high-ups from the financial district. Toronto has a massive airport and it's entirely the city's fault for not having subway access to it. There's also another huge air strip with two subway stations beside it at the 401 and Dufferin where these planes should be landing. It's called Downsview.

    Toronto Pearson is the main international airport in Toronto;
currently, only Porter serves Billy Bishop Airport commercially, however starting February 2011, Air Canada Jazz (AC's regional airline), will start service to Montreal's Trudeau airport.
Both Pearson, and Billy Bishop Airports are capable of handling international flights, as both have customs officers on site.
Glad I could provide you some FACTUAL information for a change :P

@kukasdesigns @kukasdesigns Unfortunately your factual information isn't all too accurate. In fact its NOT Air Canada Jazz (or Jazz Air), its Sky Regional Airlines which is a brand of Skyservice Business Aviation. They will be the ones flying Q400s to Toronto on behalf of Air Canada, not Jazz.

Its called Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (officially), was Toronto City Centre Airport up until 2009 - It's refereed to as City Centre, or Toronto Island Airport.

Porter is one of the best regional airlines I’ve ever taken, and their fares are some of the best on the market! It’s a small airport on the island in the Toronto Harbor, but it’s so easy to fly out of there because it’s so small. Unlike flying out of Toronto’s Pearson International airport, flying from the island airport is so relaxing, there’s never any lineups, the waiting area is fully stocked with all the free snacks and drinks you could ever want. Every time I flew in with Porter, I have always been on time, I got to Washington DC in 48 minutes, I got to NYC in 55 minutes, and they offer free shuttle service to and from the airport, so if you’re ever thinking about flying with Porter, I highly recommend it. But I have to laugh looking at this video, this was in 2010, if you compare it to the skyline today, it doesn’t even look like the same city, there are so many more buildings now, the ones that you see here are practically buried behind a gigantic wall of steel and glass office buildings and condominiums, and there’s no end in sight to the construction boom. With over 350 skyscrapers either under construction or awaiting approval, the city is going to look like a little Manhattan, if you take away the CN Tower, I’ll bet you anything most people could not tell what city it is anymore, and I LOVE IT! I’m 49 years old, I was born here, and have lived my entire life here, the city just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and as an architecture and skyscraper fanatic, I couldn’t be happier! On average we get over 110 000 new citizens in the city alone every year, unfortunately it’s driving up the price of real estate, a small one bedroom condominium is now $500 000 for 400sq ft! I guess that’s the price we have to pay for progress, but compared to other cities half hour size, crime rates are pretty much nonexistent, our economy is amongst the most powerful on earth, our healthcare system is second to none, and although they call it free healthcare, we do pay more in taxes, but nobody will ever get a doctors bill in the city, ever, and it’s just a really nice city to live in, with Miles of nature trails and bicycle trails all throughout the city, if you’ve never been here, I’d highly suggest you pay us visit, especially if you’re American, because with the exchange rate, everything here is so cheap for you, and there’s everything you could possibly imagine to do here! The only thing I hate is our traffic and our public transit, both of which are always jampacked and slow, but for tourists it’s not a problem, there’s numerous guided tours of the city, rental bikes, or the best way to get around of all?, Walking.

maybe u despise modern architecture and technology. well as a city, yes Toronto is better for fun and living, but here I am talking about the skyline. And skyline of Dubai looks hell lot better than Toronto. Maybe you like watching the same boring towers over and over again. But I myself like change, and CN tower is not bringing in any change to my eyes.

toronto downtown condos, i am sorry, especially BMO TD RBC towers over Bay Street look ancient. They need something modern like whats going on in Shang Hai, Dubai, they are new, fuel efficient, smart technology and classy. Sorry CN is old as hell.

I remember that plane from my flight to Ottawa (DeHavilland Dash 8 and Dash 7's), all the way back in the 80's-90's. I believe Air Ontario used to fly them out of Toronto Island. I see they've changed but in a nice way--thanks again man! Safe Landings, always. >:o)

Toronto is certainly huge and beautiful from this perspective although I never really liked the city. They were 2nd to Montreal at one time until 1976 when the PQ came to power. Since then it's been a downhill slide that will continue, no matter who is in power. At this time the PQ is back in albeit a minority.

Just because Shanghai (and Dubai) look more 'modern' doesn't inherently mean they're more visually relevant, that's an absurd argument. By your logic, real cities loose because quickly made metropolises are more trendy therefore better? UM. I like China, it has some great cities, but Shanghai is not one of the best. You can sense how artificial it is. Hong Kong is better.

That area where the beach is at 0:25 is where I live. I walk my dog at the beach, but even just in the area I see Porter and AC Express Q400s ALL the time. Departing, arriving, they're impossible to count. But the view they get on every approach and every takeoff is awesome, I still really want to fly with PD out of YTZ sometime!

That statement is simply not true. Runway required is a calculation done before every take-off and as such there is no real minimum. the variables are weight alt temp and headwind. Therefore the 70 seats. These tables are FAR121 or CAR705 which also contain a 30% safety factor. Unlike Alaska that had a waiver to operate on 3000' at Dutch Harbour with 737-200's.|
