When I saw the boss rematches in P3P I thought that would've been the perfect opportunity to let us fight Magician and was kind of disappointed, this is really cool
This looks really cool. And it could add a shock factor to first time players going up against the first boss immediately and not knowing what to expect, yet the boss being easy enough to defeat for first time players. Creepy and cool.
This is a really cool concept! I feel like finding a way to work in the full cutscene would be great though, seeing Thanatos demolish the magician was a very standout moment.
I wish the original game had made it that way, It's really good for a first fight, very balanced. Even if the animations are not 100%, it has a lot of potential, if you manege to fix it, please let us know.👀

P.s., I'm u said u don't have any intention on releasing this mod but I think you should reconsider, it's awesome and sure it may not be perfect but it could make a nice addition for future playthroughs!
if this ever does become a thing, I think a situation similar to what P5 did would be cool, where the first battle gives you a buffed out Persona. In P5, that's a future event, the casino heist, but in this case it still works since Thanatos isn't unlockable until late game, I think around level 78?
About having a bossfight against the magician shadow like in persona 4 having a bossfight as a tutorial fight Because in the normal P3 you only fight 2 random shadows

Probably not as it's way harder to mod stuff into newer games
