So I was in my philosophy class where we had a debate about same sex marriges and every male student except then me were against the idea of same sex marriges. So when the class got over every guy even girls started calling me a gay. Honestly, India is more accepting of the lgbt nowadays than even USA. In USA in certain states, people can still be fired for being gay, are not allowed to adopt children and cannot have certain benefits. Sad really. And trump said trans people cannot serve in the front lines of the military.

There's a quite a lot of prejudice about the LGBTQ community. Even though it just got decriminalized, there are no other laws supporting them. So India isn't better in this regard. Sadly.

You know what? The thing is that they never chose to be like that...it's how they were made and who they are + this thing called 'homophobia' is contagious but so is 'acceptance'. I'm a 14 year old 'Indian girl who is a major major ally of the LGBT+ community and I have come across these people who think that being gay is abnormal or against the rules of nature. I laugh at them as if that's the best joke I've ever heard. Why can't we all just love and let love? Why is it so hard to accept the fact that yes, there are people who have different choices and are not how you want them to be and it's normal. If I like dairy milk, it's not necessary for the other person to like dairy milk too...he/she/they have more options and they would always go for the thing they like the most. Unfortunately, it's true. It will only get worse after decriminalization. I don't think we'll see complete equality until 2040 or something.

Decriminalisation is only the first step. without legal support, we can't push for social support.
It's a matter of how we as a society can shape the mindset of individuals. If children grow up under parental influence of homosexuality being a sin, then they will grow to sustain that prejudice. If the education system doesn't allow open student discussions about such things, then people will continue to judge.
We are amazingly hardworking individuals, but we can do better if education systems allow people to 'think' out of the box about such issues as a growing child itself.

Acccctually. Section 377 doesn't actually ban homosexuality in direct words. It just says against the order of nature. It doesn't define the order of nature thing right?

+karthu1993 Well you might be right but in a Common Law society, the interpretation of the constitution lies on the Judges and the courts. So the Delhi High Court actually disqualified the claim of holding homosexuality under the umbrella of "against the order of nature" but then along came the Supreme Court and reversed the verdict. Upholding that homosexuality IS against the law of nature. And since the Supreme court is the apex court, their verdict is law. That is why ANYTHING can be called "Against the order of nature" including even what we consider normal intercourse (like fellatio, for example) if the Supreme court wishes so. Which is a terrible abuse of power.
The good news however is they are revisiting their verdict, which hopefully makes them realise how ridiculous and archaic their initial verdict was.

To all the Hindus here, we all know that our religion is a mix of different ancient Indian cultures and in ancient India being homosexual was not considered a bad thing infact they lived a normal life and they were open about their sexuality and everyone respected it. We all know that in our religion we believe that God judge us on the basis of our soul and not our body. And we believe that our eternal and immortal soul is genderless and it can fall in love with anyone. Because when you love someone from your soul it's true love and truly loving someone is not heinous (as some people consider it to be) no matter who you love as long as your love is true and you are a good person God will always support you. But for a long time people have started to think that homosexuality is bad and it's unnatural. So it's the duty of our generation now to change these things and make India as acceptable as it was in the past where everyone was respected equally no matter what their gender or sexuality is. We need to change the society so no child's parents disown him/her just because they r gay or bi or trans. I bet we all don't like those parents who disown their own children just because they r trans and I bet you don't wanna be a parent like them.
