I grew up in a stanza wagon! My mother got one of the first imported through the dealer. Man all the memories this brings back. It did have a lot of room and she had the jump seats I remember having to ride in the back in the jumper seats and my older brother in front do I would hop over the seat slap him in the back of the head and jump back into the jump seats FTW!! That's why I always thought they were called jump seats growing up hahaha. She had it from 1985-2001. And finally only gave it up because it got rear ended and parts were getting harder and harder to find so she had to let the silver turtle go. From factory new to 310k. Was a great car but not without its faults. Oh and ac back then was called rolling your windows down!
My dad sold the car at 260000 km. Ignition modules were notorious for going intermittent around 115000km (low power intermittently). Main seal went at 190000 and dump a bunch of oil (replaced) . Compression was still very good at around 260000 km. Underpowered, but reliable engine. Good bottom end torque and you could chirp the tires in second gear if you dumped the clutch
I owned a 4WD version. It was a good car that plowed right through snow. Drove it with the wife and 3 children to California. Even took it out on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
My grandpa had one and it was OK. The view was astounding and had an immense amount of space and comfort. Also great handling in the snow. However the radio was STUPID low (and never fixed) as well as being a weak-powered crumple box. Ours got totaled in a PARKING LOT when he hit the gas, went forward, then in panic tried to put it in park and ended up in reverse, smashing it into 2 more cars. All the modern cars had various damage, but the Stanza looked like it had been hit by a train on all sides... I can only imagine what a REAL crash would've done... That said, this still looks better than the Nissan Juke (Joke) and was simply a rushed design with GREAT potential... had they ever cared to actually improve it. :(
The ‘86 Multi (in Canada) did get a remote control that went close to the wheel and beside the cruise control power switch..had a scan and volume/power control. Made it a bit easier. Side impact were iffy to say the least due to the lack of B-pillar, but it rated fairly well on front impact at the time. Way more reliable than the caravan.
linesinthesand97 they probably did ok theybwere fairly tall and the doors were reinforced with latches top and bottom. I would worry more about rollovers.
I just bought one of these! And yes I will do everything possible to avoid a side impact! The lack of a b-pillar certainly makes handling a bit insane as well.
Brakes were indeed extremely good. Saved my bacon once avoid a truck that pulled out unexpectedly while driving near Seattle…stopped on a dime. Amazing brakes..
i had one and it had 231000 miles and beet the crap out of it! buried the needle multiple times and it could cherp second gear lol got it for $250 and when the inspection ran out took it to a scrap yard and got $350! just an epic car to have owned.
I think the parking brake isn't a design fault in this car; being next to the steering column, means it releases space between the front passengers for the armrest and a couple of big cupholders below (I suppose!).
these small cars stronger than u think, saw a picture of a 89 civic hit the front of a Silverado. both had heavy front damage but the lower ball joint on the Silverado was destroyed.
I had two of these cars and I loved them! I cut the roof off the automatic one and drove the 4wd one around in the winter. The handling was a little bit horrible but that makes it dinner to drive. Best car ever!
My family had this van. It was a good vehicle. Visibility was good and it was a pretty comfortable ride. However, the transmission went bad after 6 years and never seemed to perform the same as it did the first few years.
I had this car for many, many years. It was an awesome car !!! I bought this car second -hand with a 120K and drove it till it had 256K. This was a great family car and it fit all four of my kids with the jump seat. I also drove this vehicle in the blizzard of 1996 in two feet of snow and did not get stuck !!! Even though this car was not the prettiest car but it was one of the best cars I ever owned !!! I then bought a 1996 Mazda MPV which was a piece of crap.
Had one in Oz 1983 to 86 (chopped it in for a Patrol, must have been mad!). A car I always remember for its total utility and not for its looks! Used to love those sliding doors. Got a bit fussed about the vehicle's structural integrity the day the clutch cable mechanism pulled right through the bulkhead. Great car, tho.
This car didn't sell very well in the USA, it's closest competitors being the Toyota Tercel Wagon, Honda Civic Wagon and Colt Vista Wagon (although none of these had the sliding side doors.) To be fair, this vehicle's replacement was the Nissan Axxess, and that was a rare vehicle even when new - I'm guessing most on YT have no idea what that was!
My dream is to re launch this model redesign and all around improvements. But still keeping its shape design cues ,tailights. Everything but with modern feel and look. I want to design cars for NISSAN. ;) and I beleve the STANZA model was short lived and needs another chance in the market. As a luxuray model for NISSAN.
We filled an identical stanza with masonry brick from 1902. The real bricks, much heavier than todays standard brick. the back was loaded so that you couldnt stack one more on top or anywhere. Well over a ton of weight, plus four passengers as we left or other property in the hills. you have to climb a grade thats about 30% for a mile or so and closer to the top it is at least 40% maybe more, for another quarter mile. It didnt like it, but it took it. Best car i will ever own,and we drive cadys
Was this the first season? I've never seen this show done from a studio - always from outside, with the exception of the MotorNews and Goss' Garage segments. And the music...!
I don't know how well or poorly this sold in the US, but there really wouldn't be something like this until Honda Element and Scion xB hit the market about 15 years after this. The Stanza Wagon was a small car, but was very space-efficient.
I bought one of these used as a temporary car with about the same options. It was great in the snow and off road. Ugly as hell and parts were hard to find glad it's gone. I should have used it for target practice.
I had one of these and it was fantasic, I did not want a sports car! just a family car. What is suprising is that the review totally misses the fact that the seats fold down flat and make a double bed!!!!!!!!! This was the very first MPV. I really miss it. Nissan please bring out a modern version with the fold down seats feature!
I have a stanza wagon and love it to death. It has so much room in the rear for storage space, especially if you take the rear seat out (only four bolts). Part are harder to find than a 4,000 karet diamond, but then again, its only once in a blue moon that something breaks. Check out my video above ^^
My mother bought this car from my uncle in Albany, Georgia. It was a good car until my father messed it up. It was a 5-speed manual transmission, too. I miss it.
What an incredible piece of shit. Even back in the day these weren't any good. Couldn't they have cleaned up those zip ties in the engine bay and not written on the intake manifold? Makes it look like a junkyard special.
Sounded, and front end ( with some of the interior) looks like, a 1986 Toyota Camry....a Camry that took a mouthful of Viagra, and now can't get the roof down!
Family owned one, drove from Saskatchewan Canada to Wilmington North Carolina in 1989 towing a pop up camper trailer. Was comfortable ride!

Cool 😀

buying one of these this weekend

would love to see a side impact crash test on one of these

My dad loved your tshirts..does get the odd come t from people in the know…they are/where known as the Multi in Canada
Brakes were indeed extremely good. Saved my bacon once avoid a truck that pulled out unexpectedly while driving near Seattle…stopped on a dime. Amazing brakes..
I am gonna get this for my daughter for her 16 birthday! Shes gonna be styling! yeahhhh

My first ever car.
they were squeak and rattle traps. I remember working on them new....
They became the Nissan Axxess in 89 and had millions of improvements
Without a pillar between the two doors, and with 1986 build quality, this thing must be a fucking deathtrap when hit from the side.
these small cars stronger than u think, saw a picture of a 89 civic hit the front of a Silverado. both had heavy front damage but the lower ball joint on the Silverado was destroyed.
It was front end damage but it wasn't a crunched like a can , person probably got out fine
I think it's the most useful car ever. My mum and grand pa had one and I just inherited my pops it's so reliable and versatile

wow at only $9,000 that is an incredible deal. I bet someone can get a good mileaged one for about $500.00 in 2011

+Bailey&Stella Productions Tell those kids on Utube that the Nissan Stanza Altima was a real car and they get sassy with you!
the transmission on the 1982-1988 Nissan Prairie/ Nissan Multi/
Nissan Stanza Wagon
Transmission
3-speed Automatic
4-speed automatic
5-speed manual
this thing is like som weird proto minivan.
I kinda want one :
SWEET METRO NOTCHBACK BLUE MODEL IN THE BACKGROUND OF THE SET. FEATURING TEMPO WINDOWS

@SP84Fanatic: Honda had a Civic Wagon. Also Eagle had a Summit Wagon, and I believe Mitsubishi had a variant of their own.
Piece of art!
I love these cars...
The true first mini van.
These things rotted away before the engines quit, back when Nissan made bulletproof cars!
they were pretty disposable cars.
While I like "form follows function", I wish I could say that I liked the Stanza wagon's styling.
Sho's for life baby!
I bought one of these used as a temporary car with about the same options. It was great in the snow and off road.

My mother's friend used to have one of these!
checc out the civic wagon
TheBikemaster94 Fortunately, I did. I love the Honda Civic wagon and it's cool. However, I wish Honda would bring back the Civic Wagon...
I missed a lot during this decade.
Does the kid smack the side of the car with his tennis racket at 05:14?
+Bailey&Stella Productions yup
I would drive this car on the weekends ironically
I like it!
when i moved to Canada they called it the multi
Its like an ancient version of a Versa
Será que todavía se encuentran repuestos para este tipo de vehículo aquí en Guatemala que alguien me informe
not bad for a 86

The rattles in these things were unbearable.

I kinda dig the design of the car. I don't know why. :3
i had one of these i called it the bolillera!.......i had my first 3 kids in the front seat 1) juanito 2)panfilo 3)dakota
Boom chicka Bow wow
Americans were slightly smaller back then.
@Makoy155 I loved mine!
lmao no air conditioning?
The GPS wasnt invented for a car yet.
were bigger now because of all the pizza, cookies and reefer we have now
@fordgt700hp Yeah people thought nothing of ugliness back then.
2:57 Those shorts. LMAO
My mother bought this car from my uncle in Albany, Georgia. It was a good car until my father messed it up. It was a 5-speed manual transmission, too. I miss it.
is there another type?
@@thought1212 They do have a sedan model. These types of vehicles are hard to find unless you search on Google.
Can Any Build A Street Racer Out Of It.
My 1st car lol.
@nxxi okay, thanks for letting me know.lmao
I had one of these pieces of junk, I was glad to get rid of it back in 2000..
It must called Nissan Prairie in Japan and The EU
My aunt had this car. I thought it was one if the ugliest cars I ever saw. People riding in it look like they're on a bus.
Ford Taurus Mercury Sable
Fitting 7 people in there? I doubt it.
coreydl2008 the japanese Prairie was designed for 8 passenjers.
it is nice only cause it has 7 sits
What's funny is I almost said what you said.
I would trade my 1991 Suburban for this car anytime!!! oh its not best looking car but I enjoyed having one to bad we got it by a drunk driver!!! : (
at 1:37 I thought this might turn into a porn movie
Pontiac Transport =)
Anyone with this car is better off in a mini school bus.
What an incredible piece of shit. Even back in the day these weren't any good.

@Silvertrine lol

DONT GET T-BONED
+mark marshall exactly what i was thinking
Yea cause it will ruin the motor mounts and tranny mount like mine 34 years old Nissan Sentra Sedan
Glad they don't make cars like this anymore. What a piece of shit. smh
Lol
Wtf!?
Hideous. It's going to tip over. And I see rust already.
Eww... I wouldn't wanna be whoever owned that car after you! rofl
What a pile of shit. I actually like the tall look, but the car is just horrid. I'm glad my parents sprang for the Maxima wagon back in '88.
Andrew Sommers That was the last year for any maxima wagon...
The 1989 Sentra was the last Nissan wagon available in the US.
one of my cousin's family had this car, it is WAY uglier in person than it looks here
thats the uglyest nissan ever And I love nissan
What an ugly ride... to go with that ugly 80's Honda Civic wagon..... Didn't Tercel have something like this too??
You ain't even 80s bro
God, it's ugly.
Okay youngster
