When someone complains about the winter weather, I like to say, "It's cozy weather!" I love our fireplace, lighting some nicely scented candles, cooking something that makes the whole house smell good, ...all those things create a warm, comforting atmosphere. The glow from windows lit on a dark night have always been comforting to me. It is a mental perspective; the way you look at things. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Marie! That is such a good phrase "It's cozy weather". All the Hygge things you mentioned seems like perfect Hygge/Mys things to add to a home. :) Thanks for watching!
This reminds me of the old Irish hospitality rule in their old Brehon laws. Because of the dangers of the road in ancient times it was ruled that Irish homes ( at least those homes along the road) would practice hospitality to travelers. They left a lit lantern out to be clearly visible, so that travelers would see it and know where a warm fire, food and drink and bed were available. In books I have read that take place in those times, it always sounds so inviting , so hygge. I wonder if there is an Irish word that is comparable to "hygge" or "mys"? ~ Heather ~ P.S. and the word(s) is "teolaí" ( Cho-lee) which means warm, cosy, comfortable. Other words may be included such as "cluthar" ( klu-har), which means snug. I love interesting language facts. Irish is my first love after my own American English...or "Bèarla".
I just realised something, I have to be the luckiest person on the planet. And I just came to this conclusion because of you both. I've had an incredibly hard life. Domestic violence for 16 years, had 4 children at a very young age, escaped with my babies 14yrs ago, was homeless for 2 years, had to start again, have extreme PTSD, BPD, agoraphobia auto immune disorders etc, my youngest has made 10 suicide attempts she has autism Tourette syndrome, BPD, anxiety etc 3 years ago I got extremely ill and ended up on life support and now have developed asthma. BUT!!!! I have finally managed to buy my own home 4 years ago with acreage, rescue animals, right now we have 2 orphaned lambs living inside and they are just beautiful. We keep all our rescues to live out their natural lives. My eldest is a psychologist and a police officer, another is studying art history, architectural art, and sculpture at University, another is an aeronautical engineer and my youngest and I have started our Etsy store. Life is still hard but I'm lucky. My children and I are extremely close and safe. I've always hated winter but for some reason this year I'm looking forward to it. I'm Australian so heading into it now. Thinking how things could've turned out and how they've actually turned out, well there you have it. Luckiest person Sending you both much love 😊❤️❤️ xx
My husband and I have had coffee together every morning for 40 years! In the evening I like to burn candles, relax with a glass of Meade and chat about our day. That's our Mys!
I am most definitely a winter person! I love it when the weather is storming outside and I am in my home feeling safe, secure and cozy in my homey atmosphere. Sitting on the table beside me is a nice cup of hot tea or hot cocoa while I am reading a good novel or watching a old fashioned movie, my wood stove is pouring forth heat with dancing flames, and my dog is asleep on her bed in the same room.
I'm Gwenda. I just love, love, love this video! The still scenes in your home, snowy outdoor scenes, hot tea/Chocolate /coffee, reading a book, the still scenes of books and candles and a step back in time and just being alive in the moment!! Now, that's a charming life!!
You two remind me of my favourite aunt and uncle . I spent my growing up so close to them, watching them over hours of conversing. Conversations over tea. They were each others best friends but the depth of life that they engaged in comfort of each others embrace and words. They had no Tv. They had books and presence of each other. Bless you both, if I could relive anything of my childhood years it would be to be sitting in the room content listening to their expressions that ranged in content to that life was engaging them. Stay blessed and stay close.
I’ve lived in Michigan all my life and have always hated the winters growing up. So much so, that I considered relocating just to get away from the constant cold both inside and out. It feels good now as an adult to just adjust that characteristic by learning from other ethnic groups. These tips are so helpful for my overall mental health and personal development. Thank you for sharing ❤
I just finished reading “Wintering” and it was so lovely! As I’ve aged, I have found myself becoming a winter person. The sun is out today & although it carries more magic to see it in midwinter, I am already starting to anticipate the coming of my sort of “backwards” seasonal disorder- I feel “down” when I know the season of day after day of sunshine is imminent. Luckily, I live in the Pacific Northwest, so the summers are usually fairly short! I will remember your thoughts that the contentment of hygge & mys can be cultivated at all times of the year! Mysbyxor is my new favorite word! 😆
Hurray for Mysbyxor! That's interesting you love winter more the older you get when you tend to hear that winter gets harder the older you get, I'm sure it's relative to your situation among other factors. Wintering is such a well thought out book and really hit home, so glad you enjoyed reading it too!
Hey! I get this! I feel a lot of perfectionistic pressure as the spring advances into summer to be productive outside. I never feel ready for that. The anxiety in me increases just thinking about it😬. But then, some of my favorite things in nature happen in the Spring ... lily of the valley and lilacs. We are such riddles! ~ Heather ~
Love, love this video! I love how you are showing how desirable it can be to slow down, take some time away from screens & enjoy all the little beautiful things. For these things are some things that mean the most. How peaceful! Just what I needed today.
Hey I love your video's! I am from the Netherlands and we actually have a dutch word for hygge: gezellig, but also the word: knus. We even have a verb for it: kneuteren. It means you're talking with loved ones, organizing your house and making it cosy, or doing cosy activities like baking or crafting
I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I think there is beauty in every season and I like to decorate my home according to the season. You home is so cosy. I love looking at all your beautiful vintage ornaments. Thank you for sharing your home with us. I will look forward to seeing your next video. 💖
Thank you both so much for doing this channel, it helps so much to calm and comfort to bring some peace to my day in this crazy world. I love watching you through the seasons....thank you!
My husband is Danish. He pronounces hygge like Jonas. I'm sitting here watching your lovely video with a cup of lemon and honey tea, by the fire, in my chair covered with my cozy throw and candlelight. Although we're in California, it is cold this evening, and we're hunkered in for the evening. For me, hygge is a clean orderly house with all the things I love around me. In the winter I love the rain especially as it allows me to slow down and savor my life. My husband and I are retired now, and we do your fika with coffee and cookies in the afternoon to just take a few minutes for a snack and some conversation. In summer, we still have candles in the evening and we always have fresh flowers in our living room. I still use my cozy throw because the air conditioning (so necessary in California summers) is often chilling. Lol I think hygge is like a hug you give yourself, no matter the season. By the way, I have the very same flannel night gown.......it's very much apart of hygge. Thanks for being a part of my hygge for this evening! ❤🍪☕
Thank you Cindy! How nice of you to comment! I am so happy I, Jonas, said Hygge as your husband says it. I wasn't really sure exactly how to pronounce it. Anyhow, you mention some really nice activities. I get calmer just to thinking of them. :) Thanks for taking the time to write! Have a lovely day! ❤
I love the way you shows us how to be more happy and learn about Swedish traditions. I wish I can live in a cottage with the snow failing is so beautiful and real cozy thank you.
Love this video, I just did a cozy video yesterday and talked about Hygge. I’m Norwegian and Swedish and I love cozy living. It’s been snowing here and I feel like I’m living in a snow globe. You two are definitely kindred spirits 🥰🕯❄️📚⛄️🧶
Oh how kind of you to taking the time to comment! Nice to hear from a Scandinavian :) I will definitely go watch your Hygge video! I'm curious! / Jonas
@@itsacharminglife Jonas, I love that you embrace cozy in everything. I feel that hygge is really helpful tool for long winter months, but I have learned that I’m just a cozy person year around and I practice it through all the seasons. I loved learning about MYS, I wasn’t familiar with it. Have a cozy weekend 😊
@@itsacharminglife Oh, I forgot to tell you, you should check out the book How to Hygge by Signe Johansen 🕯❄️🕯Good read, with lots of recipes for Fika ❤️
Hi AbbyJo at Forgotten Way Farms, I thought I recognized that thought, " I feel like I am living in a snow globe", haha! It's fun to see you here. The algorithm recognizes kindred spirits. ~ Heather ~
@@bradrushing5959 Yes, ever since moving to the UP I feel like I am live in my own snow globe ❄️⛄️🕯❤️ Love this channel, very like minded with all the cozy ❄️
Jonas & Lindsay. Thank you for sharing Hygge & Mys. I am of Dutch descent and I would pronounce Hygge the same way as Jonas ( Higga). I had been preparing myself for Hygge/Mse, unconsciously, since Y2K. On New Year's Eve, 1999, I penned a Y2K Wish List. It was all the things present and past that make me whole, content, cozy and happy. Things I wanted to treaure, keep and repeat in the future. Then life got busy and I packed the list away in a notebook. Sixteen years later in 2016, I came across the list as I was unpacking in our newly built woodland cottage. To my amazement, everything on my old fashioned, Normal Rockwell wish list had come to fruition! The cottage in the woods, my farming neighbors, the 1940s feel to our lifestyle. So yes, you can have Mys in your life all year round! ~ Diane
I went on a Cruise with Viking Cruises and I bought a book about it that’s the book I bought Now I need to go find my book and read it again.Thank you for reminding me. Candles are great for being up your mood. I love you both 💕
to me, the best hygge feeling is getting into a hot bath after finishing all the farm chores or going horse riding. It's nice to just warm yourself through and have a soak to relax your muscles. Then I would get into my comfy PJ's and settle down with a hot drink and one of my hobbies, drawing or reading or watching a favorite childhood film, or listening to music.
I love coziness! We are getting a wood stove installed in a few weeks and we are so excited. Uh, we live in North Alabama. Haha! It does get cold here and the stove will be small and oh so cozy!:)
I really love your talk about 'hygge' and 'mys' . I' m my self half Danish and Swedish. For me 'hygge' is about a kop of tea together with my cat in the morning. Making cakes for Christmas. Lighting a candle our a incense stick. And a lot more😍🇩🇰🌹
I'm in the New York area too but always find new ways to make my apt more cozy. Thanks for the primer on how to pronounce the words, and to add coziness. I'm subscribing!
Hygge is a state of mind and wonderment to me: my rescue dog Luna Lovegood sleeping peacefully in a woolen blanket next to us, viewing the birds flying in for breakfast on one of our pine trees (that we grew), the aroma of freshly brewed coffee or cocoa, the 3 kisses we give one another each day. (My grandparent's did this everyday for over 70 years.) And with each kiss the counting down- "that's one!" Hearing my husband's "Good morning" each day as he treads down the stairs into the gathering room to greet Luna and myself. Sights, smells and a feeling of "everything is good right now" peace to you, Valarie
I watched this video while having a wonderful breakfast in bed, very cozy, before taking my dogs out here in sunny California. I'm from Germany, so I grew up with a lot of rain and cold weather, and it was definitely wonderful to come inside after a walk in the fall or winter and then get all cosy inside with a nice cup of coffee or tea! Thanks for another wonderful video! You guys always make my day!
We adopted a kitten in the summer, and that has added so much fun, cozy, and home-i-ness to our lives. As L.M. Montgomery famously wrote, "a house isn’t a home without the ineffable contentment of a cat..."! I know that you guys have been wanting to get a cat, I would recommend it :) This was another lovely video, thanks Lindsay & Jonas! Sending love from PEI :)
How nice to get a message from cozy PEI. :) Thanks for watching this video, and your input about cats. It is so true what L.M. Montgomery wrote. We agree! :) Have a great weekend!
Thank you for the very enlightening video! One of my favorites so far. I struggle in dark days as well and think your recommendations for the books would help me by reading them. For the past two years I have been bringing back cozy things to my house snd am glad the “cottage core” is a trend now. Have always liked cozy snd old fashioned things. My Dad grew up in a log cabin! Jonas I tried your Swedish raspberry cookies and love them. I have a set of Swedish folk artist Stinna Sunneson pictures in my house and Swedish Christmas decorations given to me by my friends in Sweden and always make Jansen Temptation at Christmas! Hope you share more recipes in future videos and on this video I finally subscribed!!😄
Thank you Homer for taking the time to comment. So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for subsribing. Stinna Sunneson is so great artist. I love her art. :) I am glad you enjoy Janson's Temptation, I acctually heard many in Sweden couldn't get hold of that specific fish this year. It seems to be not a good Janson's year over there. Maybe you had more luck with the ingredients! Have a lovely day, and thanks again! / Jonas and Lindsay
I’ll be ringing in 2023 with hygge ❤ Getting a mountain cabin with my friends and my beloved dog. Going hiking with the doggo and then inside with a hot tea by the fire with my dog curled up next to me and playing board games with friends.
I can totally relate to the endless sunshine of California. I live in San Diego, but grew up in the midwest U.S., and I miss seasons very much. Thank you for your beautiful video. Makes me want to be there in the coziness.
Thankyou so much for another uplifting video, you two are the best!. Never stop making and sharing your cosy and inspiring videos. Sending love from a very dull and snowless east coast of England! xx
Hello and Thank you Nell for your kind comment. We get so happy to know you enjoyed the video. :) Even if you dont have snow I am sure the English landscape is just gorgeous! :) We want to go back there in a near future and explore more of it.
@@itsacharminglife England is lovely, we wouldn't live anywhere else but unless you live up north winters are pretty tame with a rare flurry of snow or low temperatures!. Where have you visited in England??
This was so wonderful and I love the Swedish concept of Mys. In fact I will be having a little fredagsmys tonight while the ice storm we are having goes on. I making homemade pizza, cookies and I’m going to watch a movie or show or read a little while snuggled in my covers.
GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, did not mean to scream! Everything about this video is Beautiful!!!! Everything! Thank you! It is 109 real feel here in Louisiana and I need 'mys' right now......even if living vicariously through someone else. When we close on our 920 sq ft home in Kentucky I plan on making it into a Swedish cottage style home. Lots of warm paneling, oil lamps, candles, fireplace and cozy throws to snuggle under in the winter, good books to read. Subscribed!
Lovely video! And thanks for pointing out that one could be mys in all seasons. Even though it is raining here, I think I will take a stroll down to the mailbox, and then treat myself to a nice cup of tea afterwards! Maybe some toast, butter and jam to along with it?😋
I live in Canada (cold and dark too) but Fall is my favourite time of year and i like to decorate in a cozy way with a pumpkin colours and candles a hot cup of something. i also recently just found out i was half Scandinavian.
I got that same book for Christmas from my mom ♥️☺️ When I started reading it, I was like, “this is what I’ve been trying to be my whole life!” It’s so good and I love that you guys are talking about it!
Here in Norway we have the word kos, pretty much used the same way as the Swedish mys. I'm in my kosebukser right now, getting ready for the weekend. Wishing you a great weekend!
Love this so much. I live in a tropical country where it’s hot and humid all year long, I wish I’d experience winter coziness, hygge, and mys someday! 🤍
Ha! I have that exact book on Hygge. I bought it at Pretty Funny Antiques in Terry Town last October. Other than Hygge and Mys, there is another method called "Wabi-Sabi" that is about appreciating beauty that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete in nature. It is about looking up at a night sky and appreciating that stars can't shine without darkness.
Thanks Greg! How nice you got the same book! :) And thanks for sharing about "Wabi-Sabi" we must look into that. How great basic meaning of that concept! :D
When hygge began trending, one of my friends actually texted me to say "You were doing this before it was cool." I didn't even know it was a thing. My home, even in my youth, was about being an island of calm coziness and warmth of both physical and emotional varieties. The world outside has people and traffic and storms and noise. Inside the home was where we'd go for peace, soul nourishment, and connection with our loved ones. I have Wiking's book. I didn't realize I was missing the fluffy socks! It really brought up my hygge A-game. lol Incidentally, the move to my family property in Missouri has been rescheduled for May. It'll be much more comfortable to settle in for fall and winter when the household will already be established. The energy of summer will help with moving in and setting up. I agree with Anita - you both are the corporeal embodiment of hygge. 💜
That's so wonderful you were already hygge before it was cool! Really love the idea of creating hygge at home as being an island of calm coziness. Best wishes on your move ❤️
Just found your channel for the first time and I'm so happy I did!!! I know this video was posted almost a year ago but I wanted to answer your question. For me Hygge is drinking hot apple cider (or hot chocolate) sitting outside bundled up in a cozy blanket watching the snow fall. I work 24-hour shifts as a paramedic on the ambulance and I had recently started to incorporate hygge into my shifts. Being away from home that long can be exhausting so bringing a cute mug from home, heating up a warm drink in the evening, snuggling up in a blanket and reading a book or playing a game helps so much! (When we aren't responding to emergency calls of course; but we do get some down time and this is how I've started enjoying my free time) I'm trying to share this with other responders because we need to relax in between those calls and hygge has made all the difference. Thank you so much for your videos! I adore them!!
I've recently heard about Mys and wondered how it compared with Hygge. Thanks for clarifying the similarities as well as the differences between them. For me, mys and hygge are when I'm birdwatching, going on walks in nature, reading with candles and music, or creating art. Have a Mysig/Hyggelig holidays! Jenny USA
Thank you, Jenny! We really appreciate your kind words. So happy that you enjoy birdwatching, we are birdwatcher amateurs and can relate the feeling. Have a lovely holiday season! :)
I think the word 'cozy' is the western equivalent of hygge and mys. Maybe not on the same scale, but I would bring out the warm throws, light candles more often, more baking, just a lot of little touches winter brings out. Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons, and snow my favorite weather. Soon as the flakes begin to fall I thrown in laundry, clean a few things, then cozy up with a blanket and tea to watch it out the window. I guess I'm nesting. LOL
Although I am half a world away from you two, my mind is always on you two. Wishing you both a happy life like this 👌👌 Always watching your videos👍👍♥️♥️
Hi there from down under. :) - I just love your interpretation of the words Mys & Hygiene! I suppose I would say its when you are cosy & content in the things you do or with what you have. 😁😍 your vlogs make me feel so Mys !! ☺🤩
I love all things cozy! I live in florida and miss my new jersey seasons. But I still decorate seasonally even if I have to turn the a/c down lower to imitate winter.lol. but candles burn year round, the tea kettle works overtime, blankets are always at the ready in a big round basket, books are piled everywhere and something good is surely baking or cooking.my door is always open for others to join me.
New subscriber, watching this video was relaxing. I've always loved coziness, I guess that's why I love the hobbit house it's so cozy. In Canada our winters are long and I live up north lots of snow having a fireplace or wood stove is a must lots of power outages due to fallen trees. I love waking up to fresh snow it almost looks like Narnia. Although it's spring/summer many come from the cities to their cottages so winter for me is nice and quiet but the cottagers are the economic backbone of this small community of which I appreciate as a visual artist. Thanks for your video I will definitely watch your older videos. Cheers!
Mys for me (as a swede, as you know) would be something I would describe as a "mindset" tied to different situations you put or find yourself in . The mindset is sort of beeing relaxed and content in the moment and the situations would be different things that make you relaxed. Often mys-situations are together with one or more people you feel really close to and relaxed with but sometimes it would be a situation on your own like sitting in a sofa with tea reading a book. There are a lot of different mys-situations but the keyword are "relaxed" and "content" . :)
Mattias, this comment is definitely a mys-comment! :D You are a Jedi when it comes to Hygge and Mys! Speaking of Jedi, is it possible there is "the dark side" in Mys? Gosh I hope not! ;) Ta det lugnt kompis! / Jonas
What a lovely and informative video!! I love how Jonas pronounces hygge - it sounds similar to the German umlaut (Ü) sound to me☺️ So many great examples of what they both are as well. And - humbled to be called “friend”☺️☺️❤️❤️❤️
In South Germany/Black Forest the people said the word "heimelig" for a cozy time. So I looks whenever I can in my life to have such of a nice or "heimelig " moment. So I wish you a great "heimelig" time too‼️🍀🫶🍀
I like that "Heimelig" has such a good ring to it! Thank you for sharing that with us! :) Hope you are having a lot of Heimelig moments this Christmas season!
I love Fiona's words describing hygge :) and "you bekome mys" and "fika is a recharging self care kind f thing" I loved that too💚 For me, the basis of being / feeling mys or hygge and related activities is a clean and tidy home. If everything around is chaotic and screams (or whispers) "deal with me" there is no room for hygge and a cozy relaxing atmosphere will be difficult to build...
You guys should buy one of the electric fireplaces. My husband & I have one & we love it. They have small ones that are inexpensive but so nice. Have a nice Valentines day💟
Love your video! Just sent out all your lovely winter postcards but didn’t save one to frame. I will need to order more. Just received a destination candle “Denmark” Cuddle up with Hygge. Didn’t know what it meant and here is your video. Have no connections to Denmark but loved the scent notes. Thank you! Enjoying your tea as well. No snow here since Christmas and long for a snowy, cozy day. You are both a delight.
all the Scandinavian countries spoke old norse not only Norway -Icelandic is very close to old norse -by the way the Swedish way of saying Hygge is perfect! love from Denmark
Hygge means a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).
Could you get a tiny wood stove with a glass door? I lived for twenty years in my Rose Cottage, had a wood stove with a glass stove. I looked forward to winter, sitting in front of the stove and gazing at the fire in the early morning while drinking hot coffee. In the evening I would crochet in front of it with my dog and cat by my side. I miss it dearly.
I have always been sensitive to my surroundings. I hate open, blank spaces in decorating and always want everything to be cozy. Maybe that due to my Danish heritage. :)
Lovely video as always. I had never heard of the Swedish word Mys, so that was interesting to learn. I tried to think if there was a Finnish word equivalent to Hygge that was frequently used, but couldn’t really think of any.
Eeva, thank you! :) We actually googled it a bit to see if there was a Finnish word for it, but only "Pantsdrunk" came up, it can't be right?! lol cause I know so many Finns do so much cozy things, and I see Finns as experts dealing with long winters.
@@itsacharminglife Oh no, yes that’s a thing unfortunately :D. I feel a bit embarrassed for Finns right now, lol. It’s a term for getting drunk at home in your underwear. I personally prefer hygge and mys! :)
Have you considered getting a faux fireplace? I have one in my tiny apartment in California, and it really makes a world of different as far as ambience.
New to all of this Hygge, Mys living, never heard of it before today. I just came in from shoveling snow and am sitting here in my shearling lined moccasins and my flannel shirt, sipping on a hot coffee with my cat sitting in the window, and the other cat on my lap. Living the dream Edit added: I forgot to mention the Kitchen Spice melts simmering and filling the air with warmth. Yup I got this...

Hello there. Fascinating topic & great video. I have two questions. One, mys comes across as calm or ... low energy. Can high physical activities be mys? Two, how can mys be practiced in summer - not a stormy day? Thanks.
Mys can be in the summer absolutely, for example even on a sunny day by the beach. But we wouldn't really say that you feel the most mys when doing physical activities, but that's just more our opinion ✨
In Dutch it’s “gezellig” which is even harder to pronounce than hygge. And doesn’t have an actual translation in English. Cozy, warm, comfortable, inviting, hospitable, friendly. Home by the fireplace with a good book can be gezellig, but so can going out to a restaurant with friends and laughing until your sides hurt. Gezellig isn’t always calm or indoors.
I was reading about the Dutch term in the book about Hygge and it's so interesting how many different countries have their own variations of the same warm cozy concept ✨

This reminds me of the old Irish hospitality rule in their old Brehon laws. Because of the dangers of the road in ancient times it was ruled that Irish homes ( at least those homes along the road) would practice hospitality to travelers. Oh yes to ALL that! I agree wholeheartedly❤️
The Dutch custom of not pulling the drapes, so sharing the light and sense of warmth with those outside is very generous.

Hope you have a cozy 'mys' winter knowing spring will be next! ✨
Thanks Bree for your nice input. So glad you enjoyed it and that this video ment something special to you! :) So happy you took the time to comment!
Hello Jessica! How nice to learn a new word of Hygge. Thanks for sharing that with us. We will remember Gezellig for sure! :)
Yes, I remember my Oma used the word gezellig all the time. It is the best feeling in the world.
You two seriously need to write your own book with cobweb cottage as a backdrop.
We truly do ♥️🕸️
19:12 I loved that glass candle holder with whimsical drawings on it!
Anita has the right idea about you both😊That is we why we are all so drawn to your channel💕
Aw so very sweet of you to say that! :) Thank you so for watching with us!
I just love this video, for me Hygge is curling up with a good book, or nice walk in good weather and hot coco with whipped cream. 🥰
Thanks Linda, you really describe some great Hygge activities. :) So glad you liked the video!
I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I think there is beauty in every season and I like to decorate my home according to the season. You home is so cosy. I love looking at all your beautiful vintage ornaments. Thank you for sharing your home with us. I will look forward to seeing your next video. 💖
That's so nice you like to decorate for the seasons too ✨
Thank you both so much for doing this channel, it helps so much to calm and comfort to bring some peace to my day in this crazy world. I love watching you through the seasons....thank you!
Thank you Susan for the sweet comment, I mean so much you stay around with us throughout the seasons ✨
Lol
I think hygge is like a hug you give yourself, no matter the season.
I wish I can live in a cottage with the snow failing is so beautiful and real cozy thank you.
aw we're so glad to share what we know about happiness from the Scandinavian cultures! ❤️
@@itsacharminglife Thank you I really love it.
Nice to hear from a Scandinavian :)
I will definitely go watch your Hygge video!
~ Diane
I absolutely love to hear about this have all your wishes came true on your Norman Rockwell bucket list ✨
I went on a Cruise with Viking Cruises and I bought a book about it that’s the book I bought Now I need to go find my book and read it again.Thank you for reminding me. Candles are great for being up your mood. I love you both 💕
That's funny you want to know if I can cruise that sounds like so much fun ✨
to me, the best hygge feeling is getting into a hot bath after finishing all the farm chores or going horse riding. It's nice to just warm yourself through and have a soak to relax your muscles. Then I would get into my comfy PJ's and settle down with a hot drink and one of my hobbies, drawing or reading or watching a favorite childhood film, or listening to music.
That sounds just so absolutely cozy ✨
I love coziness! We are getting a wood stove installed in a few weeks and we are so excited. Uh, we live in North Alabama. Haha! It does get cold here and the stove will be small and oh so cozy!:)
I really love your talk about 'hygge' and 'mys' . I' m my self half Danish and Swedish. For me 'hygge' is about a kop of tea together with my cat in the morning. Making cakes for Christmas. Lighting a candle our a incense stick. And a lot more😍🇩🇰🌹
That sounds so cozy!
I love the Little Book of Hygge! It definitely helped me to realize that I have a Scandinavian mindset of cozy and mindful living.
It's so good!
I'm in the New York area too but always find new ways to make my apt more cozy. Thanks for the primer on how to pronounce the words, and to add coziness. I'm subscribing!
You are so welcome!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful contentments 💙✨
I watched this video while having a wonderful breakfast in bed, very cozy, before taking my dogs out here in sunny California. I'm from Germany, so I grew up with a lot of rain and cold weather, and it was definitely wonderful to come inside after a walk in the fall or winter and then get all cosy inside with a nice cup of coffee or tea!
Thanks for another wonderful video!
You guys always make my day!
What contrast from Germany and California ✨
We adopted a kitten in the summer, and that has added so much fun, cozy, and home-i-ness to our lives. As L.M. Montgomery famously wrote, "a house isn’t a home without the ineffable contentment of a cat..."! I know that you guys have been wanting to get a cat, I would recommend it :) This was another lovely video, thanks Lindsay & Jonas! Sending love from PEI :)
How nice to get a message from cozy PEI. :) Thanks for watching this video, and your input about cats. It is so true what L.M. Montgomery wrote. We agree! :)
Have a great weekend!
🤗 L.M.MONTGOMERY and cats! ❤🐈❤🐈⬛❤ ~ Heather ~
I am glad you enjoy Janson's Temptation, I acctually heard many in Sweden couldn't get hold of that specific fish this year. It seems to be not a good Janson's year over there.
Maybe you had more luck with the ingredients!
Have a lovely day, and thanks again!

I’ll be ringing in 2023 with hygge ❤ Getting a mountain cabin with my friends and my beloved dog. Going hiking with the doggo and then inside with a hot tea by the fire with my dog curled up next to me and playing board games with friends.
Very interesting and thank you for explaining exactly what the concepts are . I do many of these things and now I know how and why I do❤️
Thanks Janie! It is fun when you realize that you already live a "Hygge and Mys" lifestyle, isn't it? :) Hope you are having a great day! ❤
@@itsacharminglife yes it certainly is 🤗 so happy that I saw this video where you explained it all so well ❤️
I can totally relate to the endless sunshine of California. I live in San Diego, but grew up in the midwest U.S., and I miss seasons very much. Thank you for your beautiful video. Makes me want to be there in the coziness.
That's when you can relate 🌞
Always love watching your vlog, always so calming and learning new things about Jonas's background.
Thank you, Jo, it is so rewarding to hear that! :)
Gretchen, that sounds so lovely. Definitely a Fredagsmys! :) And the ice storm outside makes it just more cozy. Thanks for watching with us!

Thank you. This was very relaxing as always.
Thanks Jean, so happy to hear that ! :)
Lovely video! And thanks for pointing out that one could be mys in all seasons. Even though it is raining here, I think I will take a stroll down to the mailbox, and then treat myself to a nice cup of tea afterwards! Maybe some toast, butter and jam to along with it?😋
Thanks Kenya! If you go out in the rain you have definitely deserved that cozy treat you mentioned! :) Go for it! Have a cozy weekend!

Nice you have the same book Heather! So happy you took the time to watch our video! Thank you! Hope you have a cozy weekend! :)
Here in Norway we have the word kos, pretty much used the same way as the Swedish mys. I'm in my kosebukser right now, getting ready for the weekend. Wishing you a great weekend!
Hope you have a very mys/hygge/koselig weekend! 💖
How adorable you two are , I must watch your previous videos.
😊 thank you
I love to put on a video of a fireplace on my tv on TH-cam in the background^^ preferably a livestream.
It runs pretty much all day long
We do that too, it's better than no fireplace! 💖
Love this so much. I live in a tropical country where it’s hot and humid all year long, I wish I’d experience winter coziness, hygge, and mys someday! 🤍
I know mys as far as associated with cold weather but there must be some way you could find some coziness in the warm weather too ✨
It really brought up my hygge A-game. lol
Incidentally, the move to my family property in Missouri has been rescheduled for May.
LOL
Nesting is a great great word to describe Hygge too ✨
Although I am half a world away from you two, my mind is always on you two. Wishing you both a happy life like this 👌👌 Always watching your videos👍👍♥️♥️
What a sweet thing to say ✨
Hi there from down under. :) - I just love your interpretation of the words Mys & Hygiene! I suppose I would say its when you are cosy & content in the things you do or with what you have. 😁😍 your vlogs make me feel so Mys !! ☺🤩
happiness is in the heart of it all. 💖❤️
Couldn't agree more ✨
I love all things cozy!
I totally know what you mean growing up in California it was like that too had to turn on the air conditioning to make it feel like winter LOL
Cheers!
Thank you Suzan! It was very nice reading your comment, and welcome to our channel! :) Hope you like our new videos! :)
You are a Jedi when it comes to Hygge and Mys! Speaking of Jedi, is it possible there is "the dark side" in Mys? Gosh I hope not! ;)
Ta det lugnt kompis!

@@itsacharminglife there's that dry sense of humor I find so sweet. ~ Heather ~

You are our dear fika friend! ✨
You are the most charming couple!!! This was such a relaxing video to watch!!! Thank you so much!!!

Hope you are having a lot of Heimelig moments this Christmas season!
Great time listening and hearing your thoughts today 🙂
Thanks Thomas! Glad to hear you enjoyed it! :)
Have a nice Valentines day💟
We really do wish we could get a fireplace even an electric one, not sure if it would fit in the cottage LOL
Thank you for the very comfy video!
Aw it's our pleasure, comfy is such a Mys sort of word too! ❤️

How cool you are part Danish! :) You must then have Hygge in your blod! :) Thanks for watching with us!
You are both a delight.
how wonderful you can know enjoy your candle and understand a little more about Hygge and Mys! ❤️
all the Scandinavian countries spoke old norse not only Norway -Icelandic is very close to old norse -by the way the Swedish way of saying Hygge is perfect! love from Denmark
Thanks for taking the time to comment! :) We appreciate your supportive words! Gott Nytt År! :)
Hygge means a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).
Thanks for your interesting comment Christopher! We appreciate you taking the time to write! :)
Rose cottage sounds so charming!
This video made my heart so warm thank you so much ❤
I'm so glad!
That sounds cozy! We have considered but don't really have space for one.
I love that you have your own cottagemys language.
🥰
Aw thanks, it's fun to have a "secret language" 💖
New to all of this Hygge, Mys living, never heard of it before today. I just came in from shoveling snow and am sitting here in my shearling lined moccasins and my flannel shirt, sipping on a hot coffee with my cat sitting in the window, and the other cat on my lap. Living the dream
Edit added: I forgot to mention the Kitchen Spice melts simmering and filling the air with warmth. Yup I got this...
Sounds like you've been doing mys all along ✨
If there ever was a cold NY Winter this is the year for cozy! 💕
The ice speaks for how cold it's been at the cottage this winter! 💖
Hey guys! Having tea and watching your awesome video tonight on this cold evening :) You guys warm my heart!
Your comment warmed our heart thank you ✨
You can get portable electric heaters that look like a fire and give warmth. Until you can get your own wood stove it might be a good substitute.
We thought about it but don't really think we have the space for an electric fireplace ✨

Jaaaa! Bra!
Greatings from México, sus videos me llenan de paz, los amo. Blesings.
¡Muchas gracias por decir eso! :) ¡Estoy tan feliz de que hayas disfrutado el video!
What a wonderful video.
Thank you, that is so nice of you to say! :) We appreciate it a lot!
Living in the Netherlands, i recognize so much of this how we live here. But the name is gezelligheid. Maybe this is a thing for nothern countries.
