  • Red-Crested Korhaan Display and Dance in Kruger National Park
This bird is also known as the red-crested bustard (lophotis ruficrista) and is common to the central part of Southern Africa. It is a somewhat sedentary bird that feeds on insects and berries or seeds. It usually breeds at the beginning of summer ( it has a unique mating ritual ) and lays one to two eggs in a nest placed n the ground often near a sapling or shrub.
We have never witnessed this display around a female before and was an amazing sighting for our guests as well.

Wow, what an interesting bird! I don't think I've ever heard of them. What a pretty shade of red.

If this bird don't hurry up and get booty all that dancing might get him kill from predators or competition.

Excellent video. We saw a similar display 2 weeks ago. Not as lengthy. Can I ask what camera/tripod/setup you use to make these videos? My bird vids are woefully unprofessional.

Hi I use mostley a Nikon D500 with a 200 500 Lens and GIMPRO GIMBALS and specially designed bean bags fitted to our safari vehicle. Then software stabilization but you need to be steady to start with in order to be able to use it.
      Hope the info helps.
      Thank yoiu for watching

@@PKSafaris yes it does help.. I tried video with my Canon SLR and got shakey results. This is impressive to say the least. We witnessed a similar display and came away with still photos but this is a step above.
