    It’s all good man. This was when ant keeping was still new. Now they got cool spacey ant nests ☝️ Even small harvester ants like a bit of space to walk. These old nests were definitely way too crowded

    Messor. They are really cool harvester ants. There is even a multiqueen species.

    I have a Messor Structor colony as well so it's nice to see them here, English language videos on for messor structor are few and far between.

      Well, there are quite a few American species of “harvester” ants you could house. A genus with several species native to Western North America is called Novomessor.

    Cool set up. With a bit of growth, will be cramped for them; will have to add more modules, but ur set up is expandable.

      @@RobJsAnts ah cool. I have a couple of harvester colonies. Always interested in what everyone feeds their harvesters. I haven't tried grape seeds or flax seeds. Did bird seeds, but not canary seeds. So I gotta try it too.

    I'm fairly certain that species isn't Messor structor, sensu stricto. In 2018, the former species Messor structor was found to actually consist of 5 different species: Messor structor, M. ibericus, M. mcarthuri, M. ponticus and M. muticus. The last three are darker in color, so your ants probably belong to one of them. The name of the paper is “Turning one into five: Integrative taxonomy uncovers complex evolution of cryptic species in the harvester ant Messor “structor”” if you are interested.

    Awsome video i love the Messor Babuaraus colony one of my favriot ant species i love just how they devour seeds and insects and the majors are awsome my own colony has reached it 40 worker goal nice video Love the nest to note as much as i love Antkit there test tubes are way to large and i think they do it for marketing reasons but none the less the quality makes up for it and very handy sometimes like when you need to move a small colony of worker ants into a bigger test tube or when a queen needs more water. enjoyable to watch see you next video

    I wish I could just buy a queen in the US. But noooo I have to wait for flights to happen then find a queen the hard way >:(
    This is awesome by the way. I plan on getting the queen chamber and finding a queen and raising her colony starting from their instead of a test tube setup. I should theoretically never have to move her just expand off her chamber.

      You should NOT import European ant species to America. Very bad idea that could have devastating ecological consequences if (when) they escape. There are plenty of similar American species you can house, like those in the genus Novomessor.

    • @imperialdrone6261
      @imperialdrone6261 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Who said anything about imports. You cant buy a Queen here even if it's born here.
