Imagine you're only sixteen or fourteen and standing on the stage, with such a huge number of metalheads watching you. And now you have to sing some songs and dance. Those girls are badass.

My fav moment of that vid is Su's face at 8:36 -- not a staged pretty smile, that's a grin of triumph. She was completely aware of what they'd just achieved.

Great reaction. This was the moment they felt they were accepted by the metal community and the moment they felt they could break through language and other barriers. It was a key moment in BABYMETAL history.
Probably 95-97% of that crowd (50-60,000 UK metalheads) didn't have a clue who or what BABYMETAL were 30 minutes earlier. Most were fans by the end of that 30 minutes and I'm sure you heard them calling for "One more song".
This song (just call it IDZ - but for the correct pronunciation you can hear them say it when they all put their thumbs up together - means 'Bullying, No More, Forever') has some very well written and very meaningful lyrics. It was the second song they ever performed when they were first starting out, it's release was held back for a bit as it is too much like straight metal and their producer Kobametal wanted to establish they were not going to be limited in any way in what they do, so 'Iine' (that is iine pronounced ee-neh) was the second song they actually released instead (it confuses most people the first time they hear it. The official video is the place to start with that one).
Sonisphere 2014 was their very first time in the UK and their first major event outside of Asia - they did two small shows in Paris and Cologne a few days before this where Yui and Moa celebrated their 15th birthdays. Su-metal was 16.
They were originally booked to play a small side stage or tent at Sonisphere Festival in front of maybe a couple of thousand people, but their video for their song 'Gimme Chocolate' had gone viral and they were attracting attention - they also had a show booked in London for a couple of days later that had to be moved to a bigger venue as the tickets had sold out so fast - so the organisers moved them to the main stage with just a couple of months notice.
Some small minded idiots who had seen 30 seconds of the 'Gimme Chocolate' video and (mistakenly) made up their minds BABYMETAL must be some sort of money making gimmick band weren't happy that they were playing at Sonisphere, they were even more upset to hear they would be on the main stage and they posted threats on social media of urine bottles being thrown and booing them off stage, but the vast majority of the people there didn't have a clue who they were.
From back stage the girls couldn't see the crowd and were worried nobody had come to see them and what they should do if there was nobody there - they walked on stage to see a sea of puzzled faces - hairy, tattooed metalheads (the typical UK crowd) wondering why three little Japanese girls in red tutus were on stage at one of the biggest metal festivals (they needed those ego boxes so people could see them, Yui and Moa were still under 5 feet tall in 2014).
I believe Su has said that as they walked on and saw all the puzzled faces she thought to herself "This will be fun. Let's knock it out of the park."
IDZ was the last song of their 25-30 minute set. They played just 5 songs and the crowd were wanting more and calling for "one more song" at the end. They gained a whole lot of new fans that day. They had the biggest mosh pits of the whole weekend and their merch outsold every other band playing there (including big names like Slayer, Anthrax, Iron Maiden and Metallica).
They have spoken in interviews about how they consider this one of their biggest milestones and it being the moment they felt accepted by the metal community and really began to believe their music could break the language and other barriers.
Su-metal has described how the sea of puzzled faces they saw as they walked on stage changed to smiles as their set went on and how it went from just the front few rows jumping and joining in and looked like a wave running back through the crowd from front to back as more and more people followed suit.

The one thing our Guru's didn't mention were the sound-check problems, one of the girl's (Moa?) headset wasn't working among other things. There's a rare pic on the Net of the 3 girls huddled together waiting to go on and frankly, ...they look frightened. Then as they did go on, Yui's cloak got caught in her hairpiece as she was removing it. She struggled with it for at least 10 seconds! (This can be seen on a fan cam vid). Their spirit battling though barriers makes us luv them even more (if that's even possible).

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。The phrase "Dame Zettai (= No absolutely)" is originated from police campaign against illegal drugs which had started in 1960s. So this song implies that "Ijime (= bullying)" is considered as harmful and addictive as illegal drugs. We have to continue our efforts at home and in school (and in any society or organization or group in the world) to eliminate it. In this video, I love to see the excited crowd gradually turn into enthusiastic audience. When three girls started to speak some words in the interlude, loud cheers quickly subsided and the audience even tried to listen to what they were saying although the people could not understand our language. I am emotionally moved whenever I see that scene. People in the crowd became happy, so did Kami band, and I am sure that the three girls fell asleep very happily that night after the biggest event in their life in foreign county.
Last year, BABYMETAL performed IDZ in all of 10 BABYMETAL Budokan Concerts with Su-Metal's matured voice and Moa's encouraging moves synchronized with Momoko avenger.. It was probably their message to the world.

Another great reaction; you've definitely jumped headfirst into the foxhole. Yui and Moa used the non-"ego stands" so the crowd could see them. At the time of this performance Su-Metal was 160 cm (63 in), Yuimetal at 156 cm (61 in) and Moametal "I'm not small" at 153 cm (60 in); each one weighing less than 41 kg (90 lbs). 🤏🤏🤏 Yet their stage presence makes them look
"larger-than- life." Hard to believe such a powerful commanding voice came from a 17-year old 156 cm, 41 kg body. 💪💪

    Great reaction as usual, thanks!
I see your progress down the Fox Hole. Nice!
"Ijime, Dame Zettai" (with capital "i") or just "IDZ" is a really early work, being their second song according to live performances, premiering on July 23rd, 2011. Although they decided to release it way later probably because it was "too" straight power metal.
It's definitely one of my top favorite songs, being totally in my alley as a power metal fan myself. Really love the final part where they do that key change for an epic ending. It also has an important message, being an anti-bullying song. The tittle roughly translates as: "Absolutely no more bullying".
This performance is a very important piece in BABYMETAL's history. This was their first performance in the UK (actually their first "big" stage outside Japan) and that was a massive festival with 50.000+ metalheads most of which never heard about BABYMETAL before. They were very afraid before they got on stage because that particular type of crowd can be very disgusting if the band don't match their expectations (bottles with disgusting content involved, you know...). Also the organizers moved them to the main stage several weeks before due the online buzz. And they actually were worried that no one would show up. The result? Leaving the stage with the crowd chanting "we want more!". They also sold more merch than any other band that weekend (including Iron Maiden, Metallica, Anthrax, Dream Theater, Slayer...). This is what I call an epic win.
    Until next time!

The UK is Babymetal's second home - they're huge there. Interestingly Guns N' Roses and Iron Maiden were my big time bands as a youngster growing up in the UK (in the States these days) but I too have found Babymetal in my late 30s and early 40s and I'm just obsessed with the freshness their sound brought to the genre.

Ego-risers? lol that was a fun one, not in this case thou, these are very humble girls, the platforms are made to giving the crowd a chance to see the girls what they're doing and giving of course more exposure.
-just in case don't ever say that Moa and Yui are small- 👀
This is also know as "the miracle of Sonisphere", because it really was, our girls said this was a dream come true.
Some people over there never heard them before, and they will never forget the impact they had on them that day and travelling after that to Japan to see them once again, not to mention that they sold out every merch available after the show.
Song lyrics is about giving a global message to stop bullying in the world not only in Japan, it's a problem that almost everyone in the world can feel related, such a powerful message, title means literally "No More Bullying Forever" or "absolutely" is another translation but they said forever at live concerts I guess because is more clear message.
The quote actually comes from a japanese anti-drug campaign way back before.
There was a "BM for Sonisphere" campaign made by fans around this time, probably this helped out a little bit, they had a previous top notch show at their own country when reaching the Budokan Arena in March 2014 at such young age and they made clear about their plans on World Tour domination, and Sonisphere was just around the corner when planning Europe Tour so they contacted the organizers and were schedule for the Bohemian Stage, a small tent comparing to the bigger stages, but since they got a lot of attention from the music press around the world, rock/metal and general music press and also the insane amount of views from Gimme Chocolate! MV it was no brainer to switch and give them the Apollo stage, one of the main stage where bands like Limp Bizkit, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Metallica, Alice In Chains among many others played too. There's a lovely fancam footage with our girls in her regular dress watching Slayer from the backstage, you can really see how they wanted to learn more about this metal world.
One thing i noticed is many fans point out about them being "nervous", althou they might look like that, they weren't exactly super nervous, they said on interviews they were mostly surprise and interested about knowing other foreign crowds and their way to interact with the music, it was really fun for them and they were expecting some people probably not liking them but they believe in what they're doing and they felt after every song the people were more and more interested and involving with the crowd participation, from the stage to all the way back, they realized songs don't need words to be feel it, if it's really interesting to hear.
Probably what makes people think they were nervous is a couple of things like: the flag stuck on YuiMetal's head or MoaMetal making a mistake when starting the first song "Babymetal Death", also there's a picture of the girls behind the scene just about to start this show looking worried or "terrified", but i think it was mostly surprise faces when you're in shock, and MoaMetal mistake was probably because she noticed YuiMetal struggling with the flag and that made her distract, and YuiMetal is also known as Yuibot, she can go on perfectly in sync no matter what, that's why is also known as the angel of dance. Not to mention that they're well trained actresses and they needed to enter in serious and ominous character before Babymetal Death.
The Kami Band here were Mikio Fujioka, Leda Cygnus, BOH and Hideki Aoyama.
The circle pit and wall of death is something regular at BM show, depending on the venue of course, but the crowd will always try to have some fun with crowd surfing and "mosh'sh pit" which is a safer version for people to mosh, althou crowd here don't look like they want that safe mosh'sh pit. lol
At the end they're saying "We Are BabyMetal!", like in almost every live concert to make feel everyone part of the show, is also a line borrowed to X-Japan, another legendary japanese metal band.
During this performance if you look close YuiMetal had her dress torn and a piece of red tutu is floating around annoying her peformance a little bit, there were more troubles you won't notice here, like the IEM device of MoaMetal not working, or when she fell down during the battle scene but they keep going no matter what, is all about rehearsals and more rehearsals, practice makes the master.
Thanks a lot for sharing this , sorry for the wall of text but this song and special version deserves the effort to write all this info for you who really appreciate this.
Btw YuiMetal left the group officially in 2018 around this date, but she was not performing since almost a year before that because she was having an undisclosed health issues, the girls wait for her leaving her spot empty and even doing some changes with backup dancers to push the group in their new Dark Side era and live tour around the world, but sadly YuiMetal announced her withdrawal officially and saying that she wants to pursue her own dreams outside of the group, since then the girls had turn the page and follow as a duo and they're the only front women of this group, it could have been easily for them to replace her but they have so much love and honored her memories not doing that unlike any other group, some fans still are waiting for YuiMetal returns without any reason or hints, but i know the denial is a strong defense mechanism among some people and they don't want to refuse to give up on that idea, which is unhealthy, anyway we will still love YuiMetal forever, that's not gonna change at all, of course.
Thanks once again for sharing your thoughts and story with GnR, waiting for more of those stories. See you next time, hopefully this won't be blocked. Kitsune up!🦊🤘

Nice reaction. There could never be enough said about this concert appearance. It's the stuff of legends. I really hope that one day someone makes a movie about them, and this is included in it. They blew up on the internet before this show. But for the most part metal heads didn't know about them. In an interview they talked about how they still clearly remember this day. Nervous going in front of a crowd this large who mostly don't know them. They're big on putting on the best show you can no matter who is in the audience or the size of it. This is the last song of the set. Due to fonts on youtube the titles of a couple of their song's folks get wrong a lot. That's an i in the front of the first word. you were close. The song is about bullying. and they've done some cool stage choreography for this song as well. About Yui no one really knows what's going on with her. At least no one who is talking. The fans would love for her to come back. If she ever did, I hope she's ready for a standing ovation. Even if she didn't perform with them anymore. I had hoped she would still work with them. Yui was widely considered the best dancer of the three. and had influence into their choreography. Moa stepped up a lot with her dancing when Yui left. I often wondered if Yui helped her. It would be cool if she did. As for replacing her. It doesn't seem like that is going to happen. They may just stick with a dancer in the third spot. Most of them have been friends of theirs. Lesson become friends with Su and Moa. You might find yourself in another country on stage having the time of your life. The longer they go with Su and Moa as the only members listed the less likely it is someone will ever get that spot. Enjoy the ride down the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

    • @stevechevy3382
      @stevechevy3382 ปีที่แล้ว

@@justinbowe38 In the early days of Babymetal it has been said repeatedly that Yui was considered the best dancer in the group. That's where I got that idea. Not IMO. But was flat out stated she was. Which is part of why she was also called angel of dance. And known for her perfect dancing. The whole Yuibot thing was part of that besides the lag in her reaction during interviews. While Moa was known as best metal. And angel of love. Two things that seem to fit well with her personality. The was a video of all the mistakes Moa had made during those early years of the dance routines. Personally there is one of them that showed while maybe she's not the best. But still really good at what she does. During Give Me Chocolate Moa is off showing love to the audience. When she should be back in formation. At the last moment she runs over and in one swift move steps right in formation and right into the routine as if she was there the whole time. Moa always had it in her to be better. But at the time was content to let others shine. After Yui leaves she has to lead not follow. Even Moa said she had to focus on her dancing more after Yui left. So that pretty much sums up where I got that from. Agree, disagree. Doesn't really matter anymore as Moa is the lead dancer now. And better dancer than before.

awesome reaction. I was one of those who mentioned this song. Such and iconic time in their history to be accepted there by that metal crowd. Epic performance indeed. As far as Yui which is the one with that part of her red sash coming off is the one that left. You can always tell Moa and Yui apart. Yui had the chubbier cheeks and Moa has the dimples. BabyMetal is very private and Kobametal their producer and Amuse keep the girls pretty protected still even now with Moa and Su in their early mid twenties. Only thing we know about Yui is she left for medical reasons. There is always speculation with the fanbase sometimes too much haha. But many thought it was a back issue which would for sure affect her performing. But nothing was ever said. Her health issue was dragged on for awhile and supposedly she was going to come back but she eventually announced she was leaving. Sad time and not too long after is when Mikio from Kami band too tragically passed. But Moa and SU decided to keep going on. They did say in an interview somewhere I read that they keep in touch with Yui and she is doing well and she will always be part of the BabyMetal family. After all those three girls grew up together. If she ever did come back which chances are near zero IMO it would have happen by now. If she come back then the whole fanbase would go NUTS! In a good way. But hey Still so many songs for you to react too. The One is a very slow and beautiful song dedicated to the fans. You can try out some Black BabyMetal with just Moa and Yui. Songs like Sis Anger, Song 4/4 No Uta, for that one try Song 4/4 No Uta Live at Budokan Black Night. The song lyrics were written by Yui and Moa. its a cute song about the number 4 but it is heavy as hell!! Also it might be time for you to watch a BabyMetal guide that tells about how they originated and were formed. There are a few different ones out there. I've always thought the best one was "Everything You Need To Know About BABYMETAL - A BABYMETAL Guide (UPDATED)" by CrypticMisery. I know many have liked it too. Its about 40 min long. There another one called the unhelpful one lol. it will tell you alot but its also comical at times. But I would ask others toget their opinion too. anyway I am rambling on. look forward to your next.

And… that's how you win over metalheads on your first UK appearance.
Sonisphere can be a really tough crowd if they don't like you.
I can't imagine the strength of nerve it took for a 16 year old Su, and just turned 15 year olds Yui and Moa to take that stage.
And they left the crowd wanting more. They made some new fans that day.
They followed this up with a headlining concert at The Forum in London two days later.
Their touring musicians are known as the Kami Band.
That was a classic line-up with Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Leda Cygnus on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums.
The song title translates as "Bullying, No, Forever", although "Zettai" can also mean "absolutely".
My favorite part of 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' is still the part where Su threatens to kick Yui and Moa in the head if they don't stop bullying each other.
And this anti-bullying song gets some of the biggest mosh pits. : )

I've seen a few people recommend that you watch one of the guide videos so you can learn a little more about the group. If you're interested in doing that, I'd suggest reacting to BxMxC (the MV is fine, or you can check out the live version from the BM Reactor Resource, or there's a good fancam from Brussels in 2020 if you're feeling really adventurous) and Gimme Chocolate!! (I suggest the live version from when they played it on The Late Show with Colbert) first to avoid spoilers for those songs

Yui's last performance with Babymetal was in October 2017 and she officially left BM a year later. And yes there has been lots of speculation about what she is doing and if she's coming back. There is a split in the BM fanbase about how much energy is spent looking back to BM with Yui and wishing for her return rather than supporting BM as Su and Moa, but after 5 years without a public appearance from Yui 99% of the fans accept that she's never coming back and there is more energy spent on if BM works with the replacement dancers called the Avengers in the third spot or whether BM needs a new full time Yui replacement to restore the triangle or if they are best as a duo of Su and Moa. The next album and tour will probably answer some of these questions. It's interesting to note that Yui is still under contract with BM's agency, Amuse, even after 5 years of practically no activity. I think that point to a special relationship between Yui and Amuse that we will probably never know more about.
In this classic IDZ performance you get a bit of everything: Kami Band shredding, Su power vocals, Su's hyper extended elbow, Moa and Yui backing vocals, dancing, and a Yui tutu malfunction. The title takes an iconic Japanese anti-drugs slogan "Mayaku, Dame, Zettai" (Absolutely no drugs) and uses it against bullying substituting Ijime (bullying or abuse) for Mayaku (drugs).
In the two years before this concert BM had worked hard to transform themselves from an idol group, just singing and dancing to backing tracks, into a metal band capable of performing live in concert. The Kami Band had been formed and integrated into the performances and they had played several Japanese festivals and done the Legend concerts in preparation for touring. After that BM were getting good buzz and they were invited to perform at Sonisphere, a big UK metal festival at Knebworth, as part of their first European tour. They were nervous because the UK crowd was notoriously tough and weren't expecting such a large crowd, but by the end of their 30 min set they had won them over completely. IDZ was their finale. It's the moment that critics and the international audience realized that BM were a legitimate headlining band and not just a gimmick. Just think about it; three high school girls are performing in front of a potentially hostile, enormous, foreign audience who don't understand any of the lyrics and they got "we want more" chants at the end. It was a complete vindication of Koba's vision and everyone's hard work and I think you can see that in Su's smile at the end.

Hot Dang, I think its sbout time you checked out Crypticmisery's Guide to Babymetal since you've already went through most of their greatest hits. There's two versions of the Guide, a 17min short overview or 45min in depth look.... Most of us would love to see you do the long one. 🤘🦊🤘

A requirement to be a Babymetal member is to be very smol, so the platforms are used when the girls cheer up the public, so they can be seen.

Su- does not break character often, but for just a moment here at 4:05 we see Suzuka, rather than Su-metal, having the time of her life. The story goes that Su- knew they won the crowd during the first song. Yui knew a few songs in. Moa just steadfastly focused through the whole 30-minute set.

hahaha! Ego risers? For Babymetal they are more like something to stand on so they can see to the crowd way in the back or, so the crowd can actually see them on stage from the back.

It has been established that Yui (the one who left for health reasons), even though signed with the same record company will not be re-joining the band as she has aspirations to go solo. Saying that, they are so much better as a group of three apposed to just Su and Moa. Though Su and Moa can hold their own. Ijime, Dame, Zettai = ee jee meh, Dom meh, zeh tah ee.

This legendary 30+ minute set in BABYMETAL history is called by some the "Miracle at Sonisphere". Imagine being 15-16 years old originally set for a small side tent (expecting maybe a couple thousand to show) to being upgraded a few months before the show to the main stage in front of 65,000+ people BUT 95+% of them never heard of you, some came to hate on you (based on their videos up to this point like "Gimme Chocolate" which had gone viral a few months before and thought they were a joke or gimmick), and the Sonisphere crowd are known to throw stuff at the acts if they don't like them! But by the end of their 30-ish minute set, the crowd is chanting "We want more! We want more!", which you can see and hear at the end of this video. They had the largest pits and wall of death's, as well as sold the most merch out of all the acts performing at that event (Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc). This show was an important part of them blowing up outside of Japan and is considered a major moment in BABYMETAL history. This is why this show is my favorite of all their shows! Great video and reaction! Keep up the great work! 🤘🦊🤘

“Has there ever been any talk of her coming back?” Nope, nobody’s ever said even one thing about it.😉 From the official side of things though, that is actually true… they rarely say anything even when they should say something. So, anyone who says anything about it doesn’t know anything, and is just guessing/hoping.

This was their first big festival outside of Japan. They were booked for a smaller stage but a video on TH-cam went viral so they were bumped to main stage. According to the girls, they thought there would only be about 5000 people to see them and they could not see from their vantage point how many there was till they walked out and saw 50000 people. Three days later their merchandise outsold all other bands. And you say you worked with Guns and Roses, Babymetal opened up for them in 2017 on the asian part of the tour. Also opened for Metallica also. Thet have toured with Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Had Bring Me The Horizon open for them in 2019 in Japan. Do not put Babymetal in a box because they do so many different genres of metal and all are good. Enjoy your journey. There is a guide to Babymetal explaining their history. Do the one from Cryptic Misery and it is about 44 minutes long. It will help you understand this band to a newbie like yourself.
