Or as I call it, 'Apple -- the devices you love to hate.' Because when they are doing great, they are. And when they don't, you want to take a hammer to them. But just call your main local Apple store number and press 'technology' and you will connect with an Apple technician at another location. And they can guide you through and out of a lot of situations and answer simple questions that you think you know the answer to but aren't sure They can sync into your phone and show you what you need to do to make it right. You don't have to make an appointment to go into the store or anything like that. Not really. They will save your butt and not make you feel terrible for not understanding something. I have used the Apple products for about 11-12 years now, and I still have to call and they're still just as nice as when I was a beginner. 2) I started with an iPhone 4 and then went to a 6+ a few years later until it died, my fault, and now have the SE. I hope that you bought a higher level than the SE 64 GB. It should be OK for the meantime. But when you finally to upgrade get a minimum of a 128 GB in which ever iPhone you pick. You'll will be glad you did because of iOS updates. 3) in the old days you had to let your phones or your iPads come down to about 15% before you re-charged the battery. Now with better batteries and new understanding, you can keep them at 100% with very little problems with major loss of battery life. I drive a VW Beetle. And it has CarPlay. And my iPhone is plugged in all the time when I am out for the navigation and everything. And it's at 100%. It really comes in handy in case of an emergency. It's not one time when you want your phone down to 30% and you know it's going to die. Not good. Very scary. Or just when you are out a long time. You don't have to freak out that you aren't going to have any power. And last, but not least 4). NOW, We have to get you into an iPad also for at home. A buddy of mine that was android all the way and didn't understand that until I showed her how it worked. And about three months ago she finally made the big plunge. True indeed, of course if I had the option between the two I would’ve picked the mini but just purchased this SE2 late 2020. I’d be a fool to upgrade now..I’ll wait
The price difference is huge, you can almost buy 2 iPhone SE for the price of 1 iPhone 12 Mini... I don't think it's as simple as budget vs you want a better phone, because if you put price in perspective I'm not sure the iPhone 12 Mini offers you twice the performance, camera quality, design, and so on.
You could save some money and get the iPhone SE 2016. You’d still get the latest software for at least 9 - 10 more months and you’d still have the same size of the 5s👀
I'm still surprised that the iOS software is updating on a 5S. I know I saw one update a while back and maybe I misunderstood, but I thought they only went as far back as a 6 or a 6+. On iOS updates. I'll tell you my SE still has $366 on it that I have to pay to Verizon to get rid of it. But I got a friend that needs a beginning phone. She has an iPad but no phone -- Go figure. I'm thinking about seeing if I can work out a deal to get rid of this. Get myself a 12 mini. But I have certainly have enjoyed all of the back-and-forth with this information on this without us destroying each other. That is certainly appreciated...peace all. Gail in Central FL 11/15/2020
Good video as always but have to disagree with you on iPhone SE 2020 vs iPhone 12 mini. I got the se2020 for my son but loved it so much that I kept it. Of course the iPhone 12 mini is better in virtually all aspects BUT it is significantly more expensive and hate that notch (subjective I know but still). I also always avoid buying early generation (jump to 5G with some challenges on batteries). So, the iPhone 12 mini could be the phone but when it drops in price significantly...my SE 2020 for now is a keeper and exceeding my expectations.
I get that it’s much cheaper, but it looks sooo dated and ugly with those huge bezels, home button, and tiny 720p lcd display. It even lacks essential features like Face ID and gestures. That reason alone is a dealbreaker on the SE
@The RoadRunnerWell then In that case, enjoy using your ancient 2014-looking iPhone SE with huge ass bezels and home button, if you really think Touch ID is THAT essential🤣🤦♂️
I think people need to buy what they're comfortable with and...ta da...can afford. Honestly. I had a 6+ that I dearly loved but thanks to a weirdo accident I finally killed it after years. I bought the SE because of the cost at the time. I wish I could've bought the 12 mini but it wasn't in the cards at the time. But I also use an iPad and take it with me when I am out. And that's what I use for Photos. So people please stop berating other people for their choices because you don't agree with them. We could use a little humanity and respect for each other right about now in this GD world. It's not that important. For all the griping that you do, you could get out from behind your phones, go out there in the real world and help someone that is in worse shape than you are (wow, what a concept.) Then you would feel good, you would still have a great phone and you wouldn't have made someone else feel bad. Just throwing it out there for your consideration. Please people -- stop it. Petulance is not appreciated. Also, there are multiple flavors of ice cream in this world. Do we all like the same flavor? Nope . Sheesh
@@shibag534 My goodness. 4? I am so proud of you. I started with an iPhone 4 back -- gosh it's been quite a while-- 1200s? Ha ha. I don't change phones like people think is necessary or cool. Mine just finally died of old age. And when I upgraded to the 6+ I felt like I was queen for a day. And then when it died at an unfortunate time (and since I needed a new iPad also at the same time) $ WAS an object -- so I went to the SE through Verizon... The phone is terrible, because I use the iPad for everything unless I am out in the world. And I use CarPlay in my Beetle. But it's just is not the phone for me. I know that sounds very fancy dancy as a complaint but it just is not a good thing for me personally. If I had the extra money it would make a great back up phone in the drawer. I'm doing my best to sell it to a friend of mine and then get the 12 mini or ? I'm not sure at this point. But I just wanted to smile and congratulate you on having a 4 and it's still hanging in there . It's probably doing better I am right now. But then I'm far, far older than my phone..😎
I bought the SE because it is a spec monster and real world performance is actually better than my friends with the 11 pro max. I also bought it for $150 ($250 trade in for 8 plus) which is super cheap imo for the performance you get. And for you battery haters, it does just fine at 6+ hours a day on screen time :)
I really want the Mini, I have tiny hands and the combination of a big screen and small form factor would be perfect for me. I also _love_ the new design, it reminds me of my iPhone 5. The blue colour is gorgeous too. _But,_ the SE is almost half the price, and it is a perfect, speedy phone. I adore the old home button, large-bezel design and am still not a fan of the notch. So I think the SE is for me!
I promise you will not be disappointed with the SE. Take it from a person who has used “modern” looking iPhones. After a while the bezels are not that big a deal. People who care about them honestly only care about “aesthetics”. I love the iPhone SE and don’t really want to get any iPhone from the 12 series.
Honestly the iPhone se2020 is a rlly great, speedy phone and for the price offering it’s a great deal! But if you want a solid phone to have for the next several years and are willing to pay the extra three hundred probs go with the 12 mini...
iPhone SE is an amazing phone , small powerful and with classic shape plus Touch ID which seems Covid proof and almost a half price , these two are very different devices. You buy se for the above , if you buying a 12 mini you are getting it only because the regular 12 is a bit too big for you. 12 mini is absolutely better than se in any way but remember, double the price . Both are great devices. 📲📲
@@jasonsims007 .. The SE 2020 is a choice for people on a budget or ones that like to save money on a great product because I know a lot of poor people with iPhone 12’s & minis right now that can barely afford them but hey to each’s own🤷🏾♂️
Thanks for the video . I went to Best Buy to check out the Mini vs my SE and the screen size is much closer then you think with the 5.4 vs 4.7 the mini has those dog ears where there is a bunch of wasted space , I checked a couple of webpages and then just an extra line with the Mini and the SE screen seems to be a hair wider which makes it easier to type on .. The extra $330 for the mini isn’t worth upgrading if you have the SE 2020 it’s not worth upgrading .
I love the old design more than the new Notch design idk why maybe coz i always loved the 6S design and back then i had an 5s so i was rlly desperate for one of those iPhones and then i stopped bothering bout tech and in my head the best thing i have ever seen was the 6s
As usual, a very coherent and full explanation. I have the SE, and really like it. I don't use the camera much so that is not a consideration but I do like the screen of the Mini. Now to find the money. You're great Brandon!
@@nmbr2965 Same actually xD I love staring at that beautiful red color... I didnt want a case for it just for the beautiful red, but I discovered a small scratch on my back and decided to buy a clear case
Drop resistant is good too. Dropping ur phone can shatter the glass, when your screen is scratched, it just looks bad. Shatter-resistant is prolly more valuable than scratch-resistant (right now)
@@mogiehope8056 it’s have ceramic Shield with it’s 4 time more drop resistant than regular glass and it’s have the same Scratching as the glass on the previous iPhone
If I didn’t have a iPad I would care about a bigger/better screen but who’s really watching videos on screens this small. $399 seems like a better financial purchase IMO.
I watch videos on my SE 2020 all the time doesn’t bother me and I have an iPad when I’m home don’t matter if my phone is big or small I can watch videos on both!
Just a heads up for those who connect your hearing aids via Bluetooth to your iPhone 12 mini. There is a annoying white noise sound when you first open a video or start a phone call. Some thought it was iOS 14.2 or the 14.2 beta 3. Firmware and OS. However I upgraded my iPhone 7 to that and did not have that issue. Definitely looks to be a 12 issue
@@naveenvenkateshk We don’t wear masks that much here where I live, but it would be annoying to switch your face recognition all the time, so I always bring my backup iPhone with me, and it has a Home Button , so it’s really never a problem for me 😊
@DTrey FloatGoat Yeah I can understand it if you’re mostly carrying it in your pants pocket 😬 I’ve always carried it in my jackets pocket, if I don’t have my purse with me. So here in the winter time it actually varies 😊
I’ve had the iPhone SE 2 for about two years now and recently with the black Friday event, I switched to iPhone 12 mini, best upgrade on the camera part, front camera, on the battery part, and slightly on the performance.
I tested the speakers on my iPhone SE (2016) Against my iPhone 7 speakers on full volume, and the iPhone SE was 10 decibals higher than my apple watch. Weird. It sounded louder too.
I still use an iPhone 6S as a streamer/back-up and I find I like double tapping the home button to bring the top down (?) where I find on the X it doesn’t always work as consistent
Nice job on the comparison and I got my iPhone SE back in May of last year so I went to Best Buy to compare it to the mini Id say speed wise is almost exactly the same I didn’t notice any difference… of course the battery and the camera better on the mini but I think I’m just gonna keep my SE I really like the home button and I really bought the phone for the size Mainly
I had them in my hand today and yes the video playback is not as wide as on the SE 2. So you get extra screen vertically but you lose horizontally which is what’s holding me back I really wanted to love the mini but I’m concerned it’s a touch too Mini! Scratching my head if I should just get an SE 2 instead. upgrading from a 6. Wouldn’t mind touch ID these days anyway
What about call quality? Did I miss it out was it not mentioned? It still is a phone, not just a portable gaming system, camera, and video texting device.
I really was expecting the iPhone 12 could have come with the finger print sensor on the turn-on button as Apple did on the iPad Air 4. Because I prefer the finger print instead of Face ID.
They will probably do the new iPhone 13 mini’s with both touch & Face ID I don’t think they want to put every feature on everything so they can actually have something to sell for the next go around it’s probably all a marketing thing!
How is the Xr a better value, you can find the Xs for around the same price with a better display & more features....the 11 is a little more expensive but the camera upgrades may be worth it depending on the persons needs
The SE 2nd gen iPhone is a business phone. If you order 1000 phones, saving on options like emojis and HDR is no brainer, since none of these features are needed in a corporate environment. Offcourse, if you are the social media manager, you will might use this, but even an iPhone 11 is fine, due to the larger screen.
SE has poor battery performance. If you want to perform a couple of calls/ video meetings and check emails, the battery won't even last more than 8-10 hrs. I have been using the SE as my primary phone since late Sept. For light-moderate usage I usually get around 24-30 hrs of battery backup(I check 90% of my emails and attend all meetings on my laptop). Never got even 60%-70% of Apple's claims mentioned on their website. A colleague of mine said he recently switched to a 11pro max mainly for better battery backup. He said a bigger phone has a bigger battery and hence a better battery life.
@@naveenvenkateshk you are completely wrong! Mine last me all day long, and I have six hours of on screen. I text, make phone calls, watch TH-cam, and shop. I actually left the house on a full battery came home that night and still had 20% left. I guess it depends on what you do, and how you treat your phone.
I’m constrained by budget, mostly because I want a great deal. I got a 128 gb SE 2020 for $250 and zero interest financing thru Verizon for 24 months. I’m sure there will be cool things I can’t do, but it’s such a huge price difference, I can’t justify bleeding edge tech. But, I began with a 3GS in 2009 and replaced a 6 with my new SET, so I’m not exactly an early adapter... Thanks Brandon!
Me too I think I’m going to stick with my SE 2020 until I see what the 13 mini looking like I have an XR as well that I’m going to trade back in because I don’t use it!
@@hollywoodthedj1673 nice!! i don’t see a point in buying ANOTHER new phone right off. by the look of it they will make a 13 mini, maybe with better camera quality. so next september i’ll see how i feel about getting that.
If you love your button that was on the 6s then it’s the SE 2020 hands down it’s a fast smooth moving phone you won’t be disappointed at all and you will still have that same feel like the 6s
Seriously considering going for the iPhone SE (2020) as I have the 2016 version and am used to the home button, I suppose. However, my old SE is still a beast and it's been rained on (heavily) and overheated in hot sunshine (unintentional) and it's still going strong on 94% battery health. It's an amazing phone and I can well understand why people hold onto it. My nephew will have this phone next so I hope he will love it as much as I do.
Lordy, I'm halfway through it and you still haven't talked about texting. I don't game. I use my phone as a phone and a text when I am out. I hope you show if there is a difference between being able to see the screen and texting. Sigh. Thanks
@@BrandonButch Thank you. It is not the actual texting. I dictate and then double check. It's the fact that visually it is even with larger font it is hard for me to see. As I said I'm old as dirt and doing the best I can as old as dirt. I had the 6+ and it was great. But as I said it died of old age. I guess I thought it was going to outlive me. But nope. So I will check out the 12 mini. At the time I just needed a phone. And I got it through Verizon which I never ever ever ever do. But I didn't have the extra money at the time. (I had to replace my iPad the same week. Don't ask.). So I'm going to call Verizon and see if I can negotiate a settlement, so to speak. But price for iPhone 12 Pro Max so high. 😂 can you suggest where is better for me, iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro? Btw i from Malaysia 🇲🇾
I think it’s pointless trying to future proof. Not only can we not know now, what phones will look like 3 years from now to say that the 12 mini would still look contemporary or still hold up, for all we know the budget phones 3 years from now could look like the 12 mini does today and have the features it currently ships with. I was struggling to decide between the 2 because I’m a fan of small phones. I have the latest iPad for watching TH-cam and other videos away from home, I’m just looking for a decent phone now, to take phone calls. When all is said and done I’ll probably get the 2020 SE and years down the line get a phone for the same price that will probably have the specs of the 12 mini for the price of the current SE.
Because people who are buying the SE either have a potato IQ, or are broke @ss peasants who can’t afford anything better. And judging by this comment section alone, there seems to be plenty of individuals in that criteria
Hey Brandon could u explain to me why my battery health went down by 2% I’ve only had the Se since July and now my battery health went down to 95% I’ve done many of your things which helped but I’m not sure if it’s because of age or Heat in the room or the 14.2 update but yeah if you could help that would be great
*1200 nits max brightness is only when watching hdr video on the 12 mini and 12 Otherwise it’s 625 just like the SE 2020. You have to go to 12 pro/12/pro max to get higher nit of 800 nits with 1200 nits watching HDR
Just got my new 2020 SE for $150 ($200 @ Total Wireless and they were running a 25% off coupon earlier this week!). Can't beat that when they're selling the 12 Mini for $729 (which didn't qualify for the 25% off either)....
Hey everyone... Currently an Android user (LG g6 that is almost dead 😂). Stay at home mom of 3 young kids. Will the 2020 SE be a good choice for me or should I spend the extra for the 12 Mini?
When you do the battery test, can you do it with a couple of widgets. Clock and weather. My 2020 SE with a battery health of 98% is terrible. I’m lucky if I get 3 hours of on screen time

I agree! I got the iPhone se 2020 and love it
Skip 12 mini , wait for 13 or 14 (mini led, touch id)
Nope . Sheesh
tbh why would i upgrade from a phone that i have had from the end of august, the SE has been great
Well tbh no
I also have the iPhone SE and it been great as well
Some people say the new SE’s battery isn’t much better. I’m typing this on the old SE and I’m sure it’s a lot better.
@@Nikkk6969it not that bad, I came from an iPhone 4s btw
So I think the SE is for me!
literally my thoughts! i ended up ordering the se :)
I promise you will not be disappointed with the SE. Take it from a person who has used “modern” looking iPhones. After a while the bezels are not that big a deal. People who care about them honestly only care about “aesthetics”. I love the iPhone SE and don’t really want to get any iPhone from the 12 series.
@@teejaythomas9420 thank you. i hope i will like it, because my se comes tomorrow!
Honestly the iPhone se2020 is a rlly great, speedy phone and for the price offering it’s a great deal! But if you want a solid phone to have for the next several years and are willing to pay the extra three hundred probs go with the 12 mini...
WOO! Got the 12 mini and I'm so glad I did, I prefer the squared design and adore the colour!!
Was definitely worth paying a bit more for it :)
I have SE2 and it’s more than expected! Seamless performance 🥊
iPhone SE is an amazing phone , small powerful and with classic shape plus Touch ID which seems Covid proof and almost a half price , these two are very different devices. You buy se for the above , if you buying a 12 mini you are getting it only because the regular 12 is a bit too big for you. 12 mini is absolutely better than se in any way but remember, double the price . Both are great devices. 📲📲
I'd say the 12 mini is the "classic" shape, dating back to the iPhone4.

Brandon, I would have added that even if you can't benefit from 5G now, just having the Qualcomm modem makes a HUGE difference in LTE download speed.
And it’s much healthier without 5G.

I thought ceramic shield is only for the front of the iphone 12? Back has the regular glass.
The back has 2x better shatter resistance whereas the front has 4x better than the 11.
I just got the se months ago. So I am sticking me my I phone se.
You're great Brandon!

so any conclusion to the real life battery test between SE & 12 Mini?
I don't like the asymmetry of the speaker holes at bottom of the 12 mini and all the iPhone 12 line up.
I just upgraded from the XR to 12 Mini. Got tired of the weight and bulk of XR
I have been using the 2016 SE for a few years. When I look at the features, I don't think I can justify the nearly twice the price of the 12Mini
OK, I think I changed my mind. I had the same iPhone 5 for over 5 years. Since I keep phones so dang long, going with the 12mini makes sense.
Definitely looks to be a 12 issue
iPhone SE all the way. Used online for Under $300, YES PLEASE. I love the button and Touch ID.
The peak brightness of the 12 Mini is only for HDR Content.
Yeah normal peak is about 800 nits
I think I’ll wait for the 13mini, love the form factor but I own the SE for some months now and the upgrade is not worth it from that perspective...
If they get rid of the charging port on the 13 like is being rumored I don’t think I’ll upgrade from the 12 mini for a very long time.
I love Face ID over the Home Button, although I don’t have any of those model iPhones 😊

I’ve had the iPhone SE 2 for about two years now and recently with the black Friday event, I switched to iPhone 12 mini, best upgrade on the camera part, front camera, on the battery part, and slightly on the performance.
I moved from Iphine SE 2016 to the Iphone 12 mini and I am super happy about my choice… even if I miss a little bit the Touch ID option ! :-)
I tested the speakers on my iPhone SE (2016) Against my iPhone 7 speakers on full volume, and the iPhone SE was 10 decibals higher than my apple watch. Weird. It sounded louder too.

I'm very much satisfied with my iPhone SE 2020, but sure is nice to upgrade to an iPhone 12 mini form factor in 5 years, when it becomes the new SE. 😁
I think it’s pointless trying to future proof. Not only can we not know now, what phones will look like 3 years from now to say that the 12 mini would still look contemporary or still hold up, for all we know the budget phones 3 years from now could look like the 12 mini does today and have the features it currently ships with.
